Not sure if it was posted here, but someone floated the idea of the Pats trading for Cooper Kupp. Would be a one year rental, but at just $1.2 million against the cap. If you're going to go all-in with Brady, this would seem to be THE move to get there
I'd rather give the 1 for him than for Diggs but LA will not trade this guy.Not sure if it was posted here, but someone floated the idea of the Pats trading for Cooper Kupp. Would be a one year rental, but at just $1.2 million against the cap. Would probably take at least a #1 to get him. Could go either way for a single late first round pick. There's plenty of needs on this offense.
It's crazy going into that 2017 draft I remember not caring that we had so few picks because we were so deep at almost every spot on the roster. Three years later we have tons of holes, lack early round picks, and don't have a ton of cap space.Would probably take at least a #1 to get him. Yet, even with so few picks in 2017, they managed to screw that up. 3rd round, took Derek Rivers, WR Chris Godwin was picked one slot later. RB Kareem Hunt 3 slots later. 4th round, DE Deatrich Wise, Packers RB Jamaal Williams 3 slots later, TE George Kittle 15 slots later. Imagine we had Kareem Hunt and George Kittle added to that offense ? Wouldn't have to draft Sony Michel in 2018. Just crazy to think what could've been. It's crazy going into that 2017 draft I remember not caring that we had so few picks because we were so deep at almost every spot on the roster. Yeah it would have been nice to hit on at least one of those picks. I agree that he is a really good target for both the short and long term. But I’m trying to understand why the Rams would trade him considering his cap hit is so low. If they want cap relief they need to look elsewhere. Do they just think they can’t extend him, and would prefer to keep the other guys they have at big contracts (like Cooks) over him? If they do want to trade him I’m guessing he could probably be had for a 2nd, like Welker was. Too bad the 2nd was spent on Sanu though.

That was a LONG time ago. Missing on picks has been happening A LOT the last few years. That being said, Belichick is pretty uncanny when it comes to trading picks for players, possibly the best in football, and it has led to championships, therefore, the bad drafts haven't been an issue. But it is now catching up to him. Not drafting a pass catching TE the last 2 drafts (which have probably been the best TE drafts in the last decade) has been a fatal mistake as far as keeping the dynasty going. HOPEFULLY that gets addressed in the offseason in FA and in the draft (no later than round 3). Not double dipping in a legendary WR draft last year was also a HUGE mistake. You hit on picks and you whiff on picks. Happens to all teams not just exclusive to the pats.
Just think what wouldve been if instead of taking Tom Brady we drafted Tim Rattay? Instead of Seymour we took David Terrell?
BB hit the lottery on Brady. Had he not been drafted, BB would’ve been gone within 1-2 years after he started 5-13. There’s absolutely no argument that Brady didn’t start this machine.Just think what wouldve been if instead of taking Tom Brady we drafted Tim Rattay? Instead of Seymour we took David Terrell?

That 2000 team was really bad and 2001 didn’t look much different before Brady started playing. Would BB have benched $100M Bledsoe had they kept losing? I don’t think Kraft would’ve allowed it which would’ve hurt BB’s chances of staying as the HC. Coaches eventually get fired over bad QB play.Ironic that the Patriots were unanimously selected, via poll, in 2000 as the team least likely to win a Super Bowl over the next decade. The Chiefs were already perennial division winners with Alex Average Smith. Brady is a “system QB” while Mahomes “is the system.”

Hopefully Belichick does like what he did in 2012. He realized his defense needed help, and landed Jones & Hightower in the draft, which led to a SB win 2 years later. Hopefully he comes to the realization that he needs to improve the Pats offense with WEAPONS. Not just the Berrios and Izzo types in round 6 & 7.
I wouldn’t mind a Chandler Jones type player dropping down to late round 1. Pats really need a true pass rusher. Run stuffer as well.Don’t be shocked if we go defense r1. We have an aging safety core, are set to lose 1 if not both of KVN/Collins and could use added youth up front on the DL. Address TE via FA (Henry/Hooper). For Wr, Im curious to see what we do. Will Green and Sanders price themselves out here? Those are really the only 2 I see available that would upgrade the wr core.

Green seems like he has Joe Thomas disease as I wouldn’t be shocked if he stayed there.
