A couple more tidbits....
In December of 2006, NE lost to Miami 21-0. They didn't score less than 24 points again in over a year.
Another Miami example, AJ Feeley's 2-11 squad carving up of NE's makeshift secondary in December of 04 (the day after my son was born) had a litany of fans wondering how they would hold down more legitimate passing attacks.
Baltimore's 30-3 loss at home to Denver in 2012 didn't mean much in the playoffs, nor did their 1-3 record in December.
Even had NE lost 45-10, it is only one game. If it stokes their competitive fires, then it may even work out better in the end.
One good thing that did come from this weekend is that, with every AFCN second place team losing, it guaranteed NE a first round bye even if they go 3-1 the rest of the way. Since Denver and Cincy will play, one of them is assured of having a 4th loss and NE has the tiebreaker over both. Had another AFCN ended up at 12-4, things might not have broken so cleanly.
