Kurt Warner Film work on MAc Jones

fair catch fryar

No one is comparing 4th string Tom Brady's year 2000 rookie season on the bench with Jones' year 1
The poster I replied to was comparing "rookie Brady" to Mac. My whole point is that there is a big difference comparing a guy that came off the bench without big expectations and a year in the system under his belt to that of a 1st round rookie that started from game 1 with expectations. Much bigger learning curve.

Sometimes I don’t get Evan Lazar…

IDK, Matt Ryan is a former league MVP, a second half collapse by the entire Falcons' team away from winning a Super Bowl, and for several years a top QB in this league. I think Ryan on a good team would have had a Super Bowl ring or two right now. I would be thrilled if that is Jones' ceiling. I am hoping for more, but a Matt Ryan career can win the Pats' Super Bowls.

Matt Ryan is a choker and a poor decisionmaker. If Lazar is talking purely stats, then yeah, I'd be happy with 362 TDs and nearly 60,000 yards. If he gets that plus becomes a clutch player, then I'd be thrilled.

Matt Ryan is a choker and a poor decisionmaker. If Mac becomes anything like Matt Ryan, it would be a waste. Fortunately, our coaching staff won’t let that happen. Plus Mac has won a championship in college and isn’t afraid of the national light whereas Ryan was timid in SB 51.

I don't think he was talking about becoming Matt Ryan, he is talking about being at his talent level. And I bet if Ryan was on a well coached team, he wouldn't have choked in the Super Bowl. There is a reason why Dan Quinn went from going to the Super Bowl in his second season as head coach of the Falcons to having three losing seasons in the next four years as the Falcons' head coach including his last season where he was fired for starting out 0-5.

I dont think Ryan choked in the superbowl. I mean the eagles never punted aganst the pats in the superbowl and Brady had one of the greatest superbowls ever and lost, and we had that coaching. Sometimes another team or player does something on another level that outweighs other things you do. Sometimes, its about....execution.

There is a big difference to playing QB in 2001 to playing now. Brady was a 4th stringer he was not exactly getting a lot of playtime in 2000. It is much easier to play QB than it was in 2001 especially for a rookie. Pats are also a established team, they were not in 2001. So yeah there is a big difference. I am not even sure why people are comparing anyway, becuase comparing players 20 years apart does not mean they are going to be the same player.

In the 2nd 1/2 Ryan went 11-15 for 169yds 0int 1tds. Was sacked twice. Fumbled once and lost it.

Prob didn't choke but didn't win it for them either.

Yeah, but maybe the players had something to do with that. I do not like the choked, not choked. I like to give players credit for playing good to cause things to happen. Without the way the D stepped up and Brady stepped up, that comeback does not happen and we lose. Had nothing to do with what Matt Ryan did. If we missed one two point conversion or failed on one drive, we lose. It was that razor thin.

I don’t know if he choked. Just using his terminology to respond to him. He called Ryan a choker. But after the TD at the beginning of the third quarter, he didn't play well. Whether it was the Pats' defense who was responsible or him, doesn't change that.

But I blame the other side of the ball more for the loss. If you have a 28-3 lead midway through the third quarter, it is on the defense to close out the game.

I agree with this. Stopping the pats once would have won the game. I am not really dying on a hill, I just do not like when credit is taken away from players by saying another player choked. The Pats players had to go above and beyond to make all of that happen, and I would rather they get that credit than just saying it was becuase of what Matt Ryan did.

Yep. Pats D def stepped up. I agree Ryan didn't choke.

I would say that is a choke, but that’s just me. He had a chance to get his team on FG range to win it but Long got to him and they had to punt.

Love to put that on the QB... but IMHO that's the coach.

I dunno. Tom was sacked vs the Iggles in the closing moments. Could have been on the line or the QB. Tough call.

Wrong again, a pattern with you. construction guy was getting very belligerent/snarky with multiple posters who disagreed with his crappy football takes and needed to be brought down a couple pegs. Was a total snowflake about it, very thin skinned, and stalked me for a couple months. Bgc was dead wrong about Mac ("bad arm, only makes 50% of his 2nd reads"), Barmore ("worst DT class in years"), Onwenu "can't play RT because of his body"), Karras ("sucks and can't play LG"). He's been dismissive/jealous of guys like Lazar, thumbs his nose at PFF, and it's hilarious how he pushed for the new 'Content Post' banner to threads as fake validation for himself. I don't mind him retweeting others as a reflection of the masses, just lay off ad hominem when giving a different opinion.

He isn’t good enough to carry a bad team or excel with an average team. Maybe Mac will be. Ryan isn’t the type of franchise guy who gets me excited. Like Rivers, he might have a 2-3 year window to win a championship where the team is completely stacked and otherwise is a wild card round QB.

Yeah, I’ve been on record as saying that was Brady’s fault for not seeing James White who was open and could have gotten an easy first down…

Warner breaking what Mac is doing so well.

This is spectacular - thanks! As much as I enjoy listening to (and learning from) someone like Lazar, hearing Warner dissect this was on another level for me (especially going into the thought processes of a former high level QB).

It seems to be clear that a lot of his struggles getting the ball down the field earlier in the season was the fact that he was constantly under pressure. It isn't a coincidence that once he got good protection (against a pretty good defense) that he took command of the offense and picked apart the defense.

The moves onm the OL the past 4 weeks espicallyu get Brown back has allowed him time to get the ball out early in the season the OL was a sieve.
