I'm an organizational consultant by trade. Punishment of employees in organizations is, at best, ineffective, and more often gets the opposite result it intends. It creates distance between the punishers and punished, making it less likely and more difficult to work together well going forward. It triggers parent-child responses in everyone. It builds resentment and short circuits thoughtful responses. In short, it is an ignorant and yes, futile, approach.

I agree with a lot of what you're saying, but what are your friends hunting? Bear? Lion? Dragons?!?
Idk maybe statistically more hunting accidents occur than skydiving but from my ignorant perspective it doesnt feel that way. Id be way more nervous jumping out of a plane than blasting bambis mom with my rifle lol

    No it isn’t.
It is his job to talk about sports.

Discussing his uninformed opinions about the death of a former athlete is not his job.
And let’s not kid ourselves if it was a singer or actor he would have chimed in just as much. Excusing him because it was a baseball player and his job is to discuss Boston sports is ludicrous.

Ya i agree the phrasing was pretty terrible, but part of his job is to give opinion. When Chandler Jones' life off the field included such past times as smoking synthetic marijuana and causing a commotion at his local PD station, we were all happy to talk about it.
As long as the sponsors don't get too pissed or too much pressure then im sure his bosses are loving the extra attention Felger has brought this week. Idk agree to disagree but i dont thjnk it's too crazy to say this incident fell within Felgers field of work.

Chandler jones was an active player in the market. Halladay is a retired player from a different market who was doing nothing that had anything to do with sports.

But by that argument, every NFL player with kids should retire on the spot. Tom Brady has absolutely zero financial need to be playing football. God forbid he suffer a serious injury that affects the rest of his life, does that make it open season on him for douchebags like Felger to criticize? A father taking such an unnecessary risk?

And I get your points as well, Ivan, and while we have some areas of disagreement, in the great scheme of things they don't amount to much. But one would be that in the realm of despicable people Minihane is Felger times 10. But like I said at this point we are just splitting hairs.

    Enjoy the game tomorrow.

Roy Halladay died while flying an airplane for fun and died while doing so.

If Tom Brady suffers a serious injury that effects him for the rest of his life on the football field, he will have sustained it at work. Completely different situation.

Think of it this way. A fireman is killed while putting out a fire as opposed to a fireman getting killed by rock climbing in his spare time without a safety harness.

What’s your point? Either way they die doing something they wanted to do. I have friends who are exceptional rock climber’s and they are among the most careful and thoughtful people I know. They don’t text and drive.

I seriously doubt Minihane was “upset.” It’s much more likely he saw an opportunity to exploit Felger’s idiocy than it is genuine.

Minihane is that guy (and I've encountered his ilk off and on for years) that goes through life screaming to be punched in the face...what drives him is a deep sense of worthlessness and alienation that makes him seek ANY kind feedback.
I feel the opposite ,Ken. I find Minihane to be amusing in a sordid way. Felcher needs a punch in the mouth,a kick in the azz and economy class tickets on Wolverine Airlines back to Bohump, Wisconsin or whatever badger piss pukehole he came from.

Felcher would never say such **** if Brady hurt himself while cliff diving. He wouldn't even touch it in the manner he did with Hallway.

Hell if Brady hurt himself flying the same plane over the same lake he wouldn't have approached it in the same manner.

Why? Because the guy is just a ratings whore. He said what he did for ratings. Even the "backlash" is making him smile. He doesn't give a **** one way or the other.

If he said anything similar regarding Brady, Papi or Bird the freaking ***** would have to move to relinquish his fears of getting his ass kicked bi-weekly.

Football players are pros. It's like the comment on Earnhardt and why Felger was wrong to go there. This is how they put bread on their family's table, and it's what they dedicated their lives to learn how to do. There is a point to the risk. The thing that took Halladay's life was a pointless risk, done for fun. I know you're smart enough to grasp this distinction.

Except I would wager that the fireman isn't worth half a billion dollars. Tom doesn't NEED to work. It might be his job but he's not out there on Sundays to make sure his kids can go to any college they want, he's out there because he loves doing it. So again, why take such an unnecessary risk as a husband and father?
