Slap on the wrist - advertisers were angry but not enough to hurt their product by demanding he be canned.

I think the suspension is about right, I don't think he should've been canned for the Halladay rant. He got carried away and hopefully learns from this.

Should have been fired, by their own rules.

It would have been nice if he was canned. I would have had a good laugh.

Right, but I was looking at this purely in the context of what happened. I think being top dog on the Boston sports radio airwaves probably went to his head to the point where his inner compass got skewed and this provides a needed reality check. However obnoxious he can be -- and I really loathe his snarky take on framegate -- the guy is pretty knowledgeable and impressively quick on his feet. The Hub no doubt considers him a valuable commodity.

I do not even like what Minihane did the next day with his stunt - I would suspend him also.
Seeking ratings off the death of another is cheap.

He also re-stomped on the grave of Dale Earnhardt:
“Dale Earnhardt? The race car driver who died? I root for the wall. I really do. That ain’t no tragedy,” Felger said, before mimicking Earnhardt driving. “And then you crash into the wall? And I’m supposed to feel bad for you? Give me a break.”

Walked over to the sportsHub building with a sign.
Shouting like an obnoxious blowhard demanding Felger be fired.
There was no sincerity apparent in any of it.

Zolak drove by and called him an F'n idiot in the lot.

    On Halladay:

    On Earnhardt:

Either of those would have resulted in him already being fired from all of his jobs if the dead person had been black.

And Felger is mostly clueless about the sports he covers, and proudly so.

I'm not Felger's biggest fan, and this suspension was probably warranted, but two thoughts that are probably going to be unpopular here:

    1) I appreciated that he took it on the chin the next day, and not just with a canned apology, but openly took his licks from callers who wanted to berate him (and didn't try to make any excuses or blame anyone else). I can get behind that.

    2) I don't disagree with what he said about Halladay given what I've seen and read about what happened. I hope his family finds peace, but it doesn't sound like what he was doing was regulation piloting, and he was doing it near people in boats. It's drunk driving level of irresponsibility to me.

Let's put the cards on the table here: How many more callers would've been outraged if this happened to Pedro, Brady, or Ortiz, and he said the same thing.?

Hopefully that's the worst take anyone will have on this.

Holy crap, you need to recalibrate your moral compass.

Although Mr. Halladay's passing left behind a devastated family, he was a willing participant in his untimely demise. :(

Sometimes I wonder what The Wood sees in an a-hole like this. Maybe she ripped him a new one and he got wise (somehow I don't believe myself....).

With that said Felger should have been suspended. He was horrible. Fired? I'm not sure he deserves that.

With today's heightened racially combative climate, I wonder if what D&C said about "gorillas" in 2003 would get them fired now (assuming they are still pulling in big ratings)?

He told us that he roots for the wall in NASCAR crashes.
He claimed a man deserved to die because he was flying recklessly.

Yeah, he should have been fired. He should have been fired immediately. Their rules, not ours.

I know this isn't going to be a popular opinion but I think the punishment fits the crime. I listened to some of the show the other day and I thought he was sincere for the most part. It was refreshing to see some humility from him.

I'm sure he'll learn from it. Moving on...

I'll be the first to say that I do NOT like Felger. I think he's an arrogant, a-hole, but I also think that's what radio stations want.

The last thing they want is a radio host who is plain vanilla.

No, they want a guy who is polarizing because whether you listen b/c you love him or listen because you hate him the point is that you are listening.

I thought it actually would be possible for him to even avoid suspension. He played the role that he was paid to do. He probably got more listeners to tune in yesterday than they ever could have imagined.

Do I agree with this rant? Certainly not, but I understand it's his job to have strong opinions and actually act like an a$$ sometimes. We can do our part and rightfully call him a jerk, but I don't think he should be fired for playing the role he's supposed to play.

His rant was poorly delivered and showed his insensitivity, but really only the family of Halladay should be offended by it. I'm guessing they have more important things on their mind than to worry about a radio talk show host from across the country has to say. If they did hear the rant it was only because of someone brought it to their attention (by why would someone bring it to their attention?).

It was nice of him to realize that he was a jerk the next day and accept the backlash coming his way.
