nevermind the fact it would further promote the bastardization of the Civil War causes that has happened.
99% of the population will spout the misconception that the South seceded to keep slavery and the righteous North said no and went to war.
In actuality, the rich in the North were slave owners and profited from slavery just as much as in the South.
The war was about states rights vs federal rights. The South believed in more autonomy for each state and the Feds wouldn't allow it, hence the secession. The North went to war to prevent the South from leaving and keep the country intact.
At least you got that much.......I'm Canadian.
We've been pathetic since April 20, 1968
Les was so cool he got an Airport named after him
I personally have never understood the seeming celebration of the confederacy in America, and that dates back many decades before any of our current foolish behavior in America. The Confederates in my opinion were traitors against their oath, and most of the states declarations of separation do very specially defend the evil of slavery as their reason for leaving.
However, most of what is occurring today is pure nuttiness.
I'm sure some leftists think it was a good, smart move.
I'm a Robert Lee, and my dad's family is all from the South, and my mom wanted to add Edward to my name when I was ten, partially because my granddad, uncle and cousin are E.L. I, II and III. I chose to keep the name I was born with.
The confederate monuments were constructed early in the 20th century, to rub Jim Crow into African-Americans' faces. Not that people on this site care - most of them worship the (blech) Flying Elvis, whose unholy abomination was the total idea and creation of Patriots-haters.
If you stepped off a plane in Germany and were surrounded by monuments honoring the Third Reich, swastikas and dedications honoring Adolph Hitler and the Nazis, you might be inclined to climb back on board and leave.
Lots of Southerners ain't racists; but we're totally drowned out by those who are.
There are calls to get rid of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson as well by the current movements. How do we feel about those ideas? It is Orwellian at best to erase history. However evil cannot be celebrated. (To be clear, I am against the removal of current monuments. What are they going to do about Stone Mountain? Also, no matter how you feel, you cannot just go out and tear down monuments. They would need to be removed legally)
John Adams was our only Founding Father (Document Signer) who did not own slaves. Nice that Massachusetts as always lead the way.
I've only seen one moron go to the media and advocate that George Washington statues get torn down and nobody really took her seriously. The right has created a slippery slope fallacy with that one.
read the state separation declarations. They all rail on about slavery as their reason
I must point out that BSPN has no mind to lose in the first place.
Surprised they haven't posted, "Former Patriot Benedict Arnold nearly destroyed our country..."
there have been calls to change school names, etc. This entire issue has nothing to do with the "Right". It may have to do with Neo-Nazi white supremacists. But the real fallacy is the media driven left belief that Republican equals Neo-Nazi White Supremacist. That is the real fallacy and it is driven by the Left.
No doubt on that last sentence, but you're still doing nothing to dispel the fact that this stance of, "They're calling to remove statues of George Washington!" being a right wing creation. Nobody worth listening to is calling for that. It's a creation. One idiot called for it and got appropriately **** on by the mass public afterward.
Here's something for yah. Google name of Baltimore Ravens Announcer. You'll b surprised!
ESPN/Disney is run by idiots. They took something that absolutely no one was paying any attention to and made themselves look like jackasses by creating a controversy.
Lee himself probably got a nice bonus as incentive to not makes waves and tow the company line.
I don't think ESPN currently has the capital to pay a bonus.
Slavery was the 'Cornerstone" of the south, just look at Alexander Stevens's(Confederate VP under Jefferson Davis) Cornerstone speech. They harped on States rights in order to claim the right have slaves. It was all about slavery, no spinning will convince me otherwise. And yes the North was racist too, they just didn't use slaves directly, though they benefited from it.
Separate names with a comma.
