Guys I'm not even American and I don't care about the american military or veterans or respect blah blah. I am just a Pats football fan. And I started this thread because I am concerned this stuff can cause distraction for the football team. I still feel this thread is very relevant to the Patriots football team and its chemistry and performance. McCourty's actions, coming as a team captain who is aware of team rules, can be potentially disruptive. I don't care for the math quiz that the moderator speaks of since it's not my fault that there are posts here that have gone off-topic from the original discussion, which is whether this stuff can create a distraction for our football team.

I think clearly from the tone of discussion here, there is dangerous disruptive potential here. This was a headache for SF before. This is a headache at Seahawks right now with Bennett's actions. And the headaches will grow.

Yes at some point when every 2nd NFL player is sitting, noone will care, but we're not there yet.

Frankly I don't even understand why the national anthem is played when there is no Team USA playing. I don't hear the British national anthem before every Premier League match. Or similar for other leagues in other countries. What do they do in MLB or NHL where there are Canadian and American teams? Do they sing the Canadian anthem or American anthem or both for Toronto Blue Jays or Montreal Canadiens?

What do they do for NFL games in UK currently? Do they play both anthems? Will Bennett and McCourty or others stand up for the UK national anthem after they sit for the US national anthem? That will look incredibly stupid.

That's fine. I understand the reasons why they sit and know it's not to intentionally disrespect anyone rather bring awareness to an issue but I also understand the reasons why others would get upset. You have to admit that their kneeling has ignited numerous conversations.

Ok, freedom of speech. You just happen to agree with the message from McCourty while sitting during the anthem so you are very tolerant. What if you disagree with the message? I guarantee you will lecture us all how the workplace doesn't allow freedom of speech and keep your politics at home, etc.
Come to think of it, there are two issues here. Hijacking a captive audience at your workplace during a sponsored, televised game to preach your personal gripes which is an employer, league, sponsor paid showplace and not a personal free speech forum. After the game and talking to the media, go right ahead and spout off, the reporter can decide to use it or throw it away. Wait, that isn't allowed by Bellichick. He tightly controls what players say to the media because he is their employer. No free speech there, why is it any different on the field? I can't bring my politics to work and start preaching to the customers my political views. I can do it of course and risk getting fired and the same goes for football players unless the team allows it by agreement but the fans don't have to like it and may react by not watching as is their right.

A separate issue is preaching your uninformed, misguided politics during the anthem. Now you've doubled down. First, You trampled employers and sponsors rights by hijacking their expensive airtime for your personal beef and second, you chose to offend patriotic Americans and veterans with your selfish display during a solemn moment when people are thanking God for our country and remembering war dead and veterans. You also seem to think your issue is more important than anybody else's political issues and gripes. But nobody cares about your politics, they want to watch FOOTBALL and your protest backfires as it should.

Good post. I personally would never sit during the NA. I simply understand why they are and will listen to their reasons.

Do I wish they could deliver their message in another fashion? Yes but what they have done has ignited discussions across the country about the issues they wanted to bring attention to. I'm not sure another method would have achieved as much.

I know they are not protesting against the military or this country rather it is for awareness of an issue that has been a problem in this country for decades.

Please provide video this season of you standing at home for every single sporting event you watch, since they all play the anthem.

This is really funny. It'd be even funnier if someone actually stood in their living room during the anthem and made their whole family do it. You would probably think that person had a screw loose.

Yeah but we see them for like 5 seconds during the anthem. It's not like they just show Kaep for 90 seconds while the anthem is being played. I don't even usually see the anthem before the game, it just starts broadcasting at kickoff. Nothing is being hijacked.

Also, are you really concerned about Budweiser? Their rights are being hijacked? Oh poor Budweiser, won't someone think about the ****ty beer companies???

It's his right to protest in his own life, but you are an employee of a private business.
If used my platform at my work to spread my political beliefs I'd be fired.

I am sad to hear Patriot players may take part.

I am sooooo sick of this recent fusion of politics and sports. We watch sports to ESCAPE that garbage.

DO YOUR JOB. If you want to join a protest, go do a speech on your time.

    Both good points.
In a fight between Nazis and Communists you don't choose sides, you pray for a meteor.
    (I can't take credit, I heard someone say that....but it's true)

That's what the Nazis did, they played off the people's fear of communism. Funny, because they were socialists themselves, same side of the rainbow.

That first Youtube video is exactly my perspective. I wish I had watched it when you first posted it. My apologies for not doing so.

That is what I meant by systematic racism. It's not a bunch a racists holding down a black man imo rather a system including Welfare that does it. It also entraps other races of people as well. Imo, and this is truly open for discussion, the reason African Americans are affected at a much higher rate than other races is a result of events that transpired dating back to the post reconstruction era i.e Jim Crow laws etc....

Does anyone know what McCourty is thinking about protesting against?

I'm thinking that my protest against the NYFL is going to come sooner rather than later.

So you're telling me these stats show that he is not good enough to be a starting QB in the NFL? Then you have lost your mind. He also didn't have much talent at his disposal last year. He is better than half of the QBs currently starting in the NFL. Its POLITICAL.

So today's dumb 40 page thread finally went down huh? What post put it over the top? Couldn't have been any worse than the other 39 pages.
