Just need to keep in mind what will inevitably happen if/when things reopen.

Originally this erupted with just a couple cases in some areas.

Now any reopening will instantly start the spread again.

Except this time, instead of starting with just a couple cases in a couple areas... it'll be starting with 10s of thousands (or likely more) infected, AND in virtually every town.

The resulting spread could be insane within a couple weeks.

Agreed. And it's sad but I agree with it to a point.

However reopening soon will result in a spread that makes the original projection of millions look small.

The honest, non-partisan answer is this:

The reason why it is politicized is because how the crisis is perceived, for better or worse, will reflect on the current administration - and have consequences in November. Those who support Trump want to point to the good things taking place and ways in which this is being well handled. Those who oppose Trump want to point to the bad things taking place and ways in which this is being poorly handled.

We don't know that. There is some very interesting testing currently taking place to try and measure precisely how many of us have already been exposed to the virus and developed antibodies without even knowing. Some scientists think that number might be pretty high.

Not sure how feasible this would be. For example, the government hired 500,000 temporary workers for the census and that's just getting a form filled out, once per household. Manufacturing and then processing 330MM tests every week would be way, way more work.

What do you think would happen if one decently sized state opened now?

    Say Iowa.

How long until the infection spread to unacceptable numbers?

Figuring there's at least hundreds currently infected without knowing it.

Good point. But any guess on that number would be some crazy speculation.

I'll try. I'd say very optimistically that number is 1 million.

He doesn't. The governor is doing what people of weak character often do - assigning blame to anyone but themselves. He's either afraid to act, fearing that he will do the wrong thing, or doesn't care to act because he is doing things by some sort of "book." In any event, the responsibility falls unto him because that is what his job is. That's not what the federal government's job is. That's never been what the federal government's job is. The constitution does a pretty good job of laying that out. That you're trying to assign blame to Trump here, because rEpUbLiCaN, is a complete and utter failure in logic. You're twisting things like a pretzel in order to assign blame to someone you hate. That's also a character flaw.

Follow me here and you'll start making better posts on the subject - the federal government can only suggest a quarantine. The state government has to make the decision to quarantine.

If the crisis appears to be an overreaction, it reflects well on Trump. If it turns out to be devastating it reflects poorly on Trump. That's just the way it is. Covid-19 is here, and it's a problem and the politicization of it was inevitable.

I don't believe anyone wants the pandemic to exist, let alone worsen. But there is a matter of Trump's legacy involved in this and both his supporters and opponents are highly passionate about it and want the narrative to fit their side.

No one wants to see 100,000 people die. But people will argue whether say 20,000-30,000 dead would be considered a relatively successful containment or massive failure on the part of the administration.

I think what may happen is if you have Covid-19 antibodies or been vaccinated (the vaccine part is still months away) then you have some sort of ID or paperwork (wristband?) indicating so.

I think our govt representatives are paid well enough to figure a way to get this done.

Find way to test weekly at minimal or no cost to Americans. If corporate USA wants us to buy there stuff, it’s time for them to step up and chip in
