We have a friend here in DC who has a high level executive job that requires direct contact with the White House about all things business, and now of course the pandemic. He's always been a conservative with libertarian leanings.

He called us the other day after an afternoon on the phone with the WH about the national response, including supply chain issues.

His statement to us: "I hope you have guns, because this WH is so disorganized and chaotic on the pandemic response that everything is in danger of falling apart. Stock up on food and supplies, lock your doors, and do you have guns?" He was just out of his mind with anger and frustration at what he experienced there.

We were pretty shook up for a while afterwards.

The biggest problem here is that they were surprised. If you swear by the free market on principle, and then insist on using the free market as the distribution mechanism in a crisis, and then the free market acts as it is structured and incented to act, you shouldn't be surprised.

There have been dozens of stories from local officials and state governors of this problem. You have to be intentionally be ignoring it to be surprised.

In a time of war, critical supply chains get nationalized. The current WH has an allergy to doing that, and tens of thousands of people are going to die because of it.

My reply is that people join for whatever reason they join, what the hell do I care unless they’re a trolling fan from a different team. Outside of that, who the hell am I to give a ****.

As far as that phrase, “stay safe,” what does that actually mean? Is it, go to your “safe place?” Does it represent a “we’re all in this together” feeling? When people say it, does anyone really hear it? When you write it, do you mean it or are you just hiding behind it?

Your exec friend's chat with you is pretty sobering. Waiting to hear that you are "emotional" or "sensationalist" for posting it

I heard this morning we are now on our 4th WH "czar" in 5 weeks. And this time, "he went to Jared."

The temporary good news is that when I woke up, I heard the news guys saying we have "nearly" 6,000 cases. To make the quintupling over a 1-week interval, if we're at 6,000 now, we'd need 1,500. The bad news is, it might just happen. (These numbers seem like they would still be vulnerable to variables like whether a form get counted that night, whether data gets fouled by exigencies of the moment, etc.) We might have a few hundred yesterday waiting to code in when someone gets in in the morning, who knows.

It would be unexpected good news if we don't make 7,500 deaths by the end of the night. The bad news is, the next weekly quintupling gets us to 37,500 deaths by the end of next Friday, if we make the 7,500 today.

In those cities that look like they're out of options now, they'll just be counting the dead by next week at this time. Right now the stories coming out look like they're in the battle of their lives in NY's care system, 2 battles really, one against the virus and the other against whatever TF is in the way of "the cavalry coming." But next week, they're going to be in a massacre... @PatsFanInPhilly please stay safe, & you're doing the work of the angels (again.)

I can't express enough my admiration and gratitude to the guys doing the work on the front lines.

    Plain and simple....
This country does not manufacture the medical supplies most needed right now.
With 150 countries seeking the same supplies,
essentially there is infinite demand and zero supply.
Of course it’s a sh*t show in DC.
And unless you think a Dem president could produce medical supplies out of thin air...

Again....there’s a reason the US is relying on car companies to make ventilators and pillow factories to manufacture masks....

Starting with Bill Clinton’s NAFTA in the 90’s and every politician since who turned a blind eye as manufacturers fled the US, this has been a catastrophe in the making.

I can still hear Obama’s stump speeches in both his elections, “I want to transform the US into a service economy”

How’s that working out right now?

Is it possible for a Trump supporter to read something without turning it into an either/or, binary, political fight?

I'm just reporting on a conversation I had that's relevant to our lives right now, to our immediate collective futures.

You bring up a valid issue regarding the intentions behind greetings & partings. The other day it dawned on me how little they used to mean. They were just words that few really heard

In my opinion, that has changed. “How are you?”, “Take care”, “It’s good to talk to you” all have real meaning today and I believe most of us really mean it and we hear the real meaning in these expressions.

When this is over, humanity will be better because of it. We will witness how productive collective human effort is in fighting a common enemy. The wealthiest & the poorest will give freely of themselves in this battle.

Humans don’t give up hope and we fight with everything we’ve got when facing the enemy. The beautiful thing about this war is we all agree on who the enemy is.

I didn’t ask for your opinion on freedom of choice. I asked what kind of person would join an NFL board just to post about politics & non-football topics.

My opinion is that only someone that believes it has a chance of changing opinions. Which we prolly agree is a false motive.

Never answer a question with a question

Answer my question and then ask yours. It’s like having a toga party and a friend shows up in street clothes

Jackbauer posts in football threads. As often as most, no. If that helps with a starting point. Thank the good lord there is a Pub forum, otherwise, you’d have Captain Insanity spamming threads here. People go to where they’re most comfortable and have interest. More power to them and this site.

Yeah, that’s the pot and kettle there for ya there...

Fact is Trump has spent the past 3 years doing what he could to lessen our reliance on China. Fact also is that instead of leaving politics at our shores and being united as a a nation, the TDS brigade criticized and opposed him every single step of the way.

Anyone with an ounce of conscience would take a good hard look at the consequences today of that opposition and reconsider their actions going forward.

What’s most relevant is the lack of medical supplies.
Discussing policy that brought us to this moment in history has nothing to do with current sides of the aisle. The restructuring of the US economy that got us into this supply crisis began 25 years ago with NAFTA and the enticement of cheap offshore labor with no trade barriers. And there should be zero contention of who supported the restructure. Except for Ross Perot, they all did .............................................. until 2016.
