He could have given him a standing 8 count and then see what happens. It's not like he wasn't moving. I thought it was early

Thats not the way it works.

They showed the rules in big letters on screen before the fight. The match had no countdowns. Didn't you read them? Not only that, but standing 8 counts haven't been a thing in unified rules boxing for more than a decade.

Conor was drowning and its the ref's job is to protect the fighters.

Nah, Connor was 100% blown. He had nothing and it was just a matter of time. The ref did the right thing and did Connor a favor.

I thought it was early. He was rocked - but not done - you could see after the stoppage that he could have kept going

Ok no, you're wrong. He was on rubber legs, his eyes were rolling in the back of his head....he was done. Two to three more punches would have put him out cold. Why wait for that to happen? Ref stopped it right before he was going to get hurt.

I give you credit here for eating Crowe, but at the same time, don't make excuses. Mcgregor got his ass kicked. You made a poor prediction. As for the first three rounds, Floyd was just playing with him not throwing any punches rope a doping him to getting tired. It worked brilliantly. After round 6, Connor became a pinatta

most scorecards had Conor winning round 8. Yes, Floyd was the better fighter, but Conor did better than Canelo and Manny. I did think this was an early stoppage.

Other than this fight, do you watch boxing?

I am a part time boxing writer for the IBRO (google it if you've never heard of it), also a moderator on eastsideboxing.com forum. Also a full time subscriber to RING magazine. I would venture to say I know as much about boxing as anyone on this forum.

Which decade would you like to talk about?

How about the 1890s with bob fitzsimmons?

How about the 1900s with Joe Gams?

How about the 1910s with Sam Langford?

How about the 1920s with Harry Greb?

How about the 1930s with Henry Armstrong?

How about the 1940s with ezzard charles?

I just listed 6 fighters who would be ranked in the top 20 of any boxing experts greatest fighters p4P of all time. Ever heard of any of them?

Back to mayweather. You are still making excuses. Floyd used a famous strategy called the rope a dope on mcgregor. It was unsuccessfully used by Archie Moore in 1955 against Marciano, then later succcesfully used famously in 1974 Ali vs Foreman. Floyds strategy was to let Connor punch himself out early, take him into the later rounds, then walk him down and throw heavy punches at him once his hands dropped from fatigue. Executed perfectly. In round 10, connor was slumped against the ropes, his legs wobbly, defenseless. He had just taken 5-6 flush punches in a row. He was not coming back. It was over.

Canelo and Manny had a lot more success against mayweather because they actually survived the distance vs a younger, more prime version of mayweather. Also, they both won more rounds on the judges scorecards than connor did. Connor was knocked out by a 40 year old retired mayweather. What do you think the 2007 version of mayweather would have done to connor in a boxing match? How bout the 2013 version of mayweather who Canelo fought?

Unfortunately, Mass State Police are looking for Fourier as he has been reported missing.

He was last seen holding hand over mouth at a cinema showing the fight.

That's great. I think you have a bit of a biased view because you viewed this fight as a farce.

As someone who boxed when i was younger, i thought Conor landed a nice jab, threw from akward angles and landed, there was a body shot in the 8th that hurt Floyd. Yes, Conor was outclassed in the 9th and 10th, but it's not as if he was bloodied and hurt or that Floyd was throwing with that much power, let him keep going. Also i thought Byrd should have also warned Floyd about turning in the clinch. I'm biased towards Conor because i believe MMA is the superior sport to Boxing now (especially with the talent moving to MMA) - but i do know boxing and it was not a clinic by Floyd - yes, he's the better boxer but Conor brought the fight forward

Yes lets talk about boxing in the early 1900s.

I still think many people still don't appreciate the clinic Mayweather put on.

Mayweather laughed after that uppercut in the first round. He knew MacGregor couldn't hurt him, so he just let him punch himself out.

I thought Mayweather had Pillowhands, holy crap.

For those who disagree...I don't know what to say. Days later it's even more impressive. How many boxing matches did Conor do before this? None. He went 10 round against a lethal professional boxer and it must be some anti-mma shade being thrown because no one in their right mind would disagree with my statement.

Just the person I need to answer this question. Why do they call it a boxing ring if it's actually square?

Salem I give you respect for showing up but I disagree with your assessment of the fight on many points. That said lets all move on to football :).

As far as Fourier goes that clown will either never show up or wait like a month and say he took a trip to the jungle and didnt have any internet. We should have laid odds if he was ever going to pay or ever even going to come back to this thread/forum. I wonder what JV pats forum he moved on to, to get his Patriots fix.

As I mentioned early in the thread we have a real fight coming up in just a few weeks that I hope will satisfy our needs for good competitive boxing match.

It goes back to the times when boxing fights used to be bare-knuckle fights, a circle was drawn in the dirt and prize fighters were ringed by the fans. The name "ring" continued with the Jack Broughton rules in 1743, which specified a small circle in the center of the fight area where the boxers met at the start of each round.

The first square ring was introduced by the Pugilistic Society in 1838. That ring was specified as 24 feet (7.3 m) square and bound by two ropes.

The boxing ring is commonly referred to as the "square circle" or the "squared circle"

I would have bet a lot of money that when Fourier lost the bet he would Welch.
