Business Week: Pete Carroll's favorite mistake...

Bottom line is, he didn't get it done. He can use any excuse he wants to but the reality is he didn't get it done. I hope he gets another chance. But he was here three years and Belichick didn't exactly draft well in 2000 and 2001 either. Wait, I know what happened! Drew was too busy skiing to care about poor pete!

The Pete was better than given credit for, he didn't get a fair shot, etc. would have a leg to stand on except for one thing:

This was his 2nd chance. It ended just like the first - with his undisciplined team that was in playoff contention quitting on him the second half of the year in hopes of getting him fired. His Jets tenure started 5-4 and ended 1-6 with 5 straight lossses, his Pats tenure ended with 6 in 8 games after a 6-2 start.

Pete Carroll came into the worst possible situation.

1) He followed a legend.
2) After 4 years of repression, a lot of players were ready to act out at their first chance (can you say "mosh pit"...?)
3) The team he inherited overachieved the year before he got there. Let's face it, the Pats were not the best team in the AFC that year (Denver was).

The only way Carroll could be considered a success was to win a Super Bowl. And anything less than a Conference Championship makes him an abysmal failure.
