I heard a rumor from a friend who is an electrician that he heard from another guy who he works with who he considers a credible source that the Patriots are going to try to add seats to Gilette Stadium in the near future by closing in the open end. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY completely SKETCHY so please spare me the nasty replies and any mocking of this post. I was just wondering if anyone else knew anything about this because if it is true I think that would be pretty cool. I had not heard anything about this before.

This is the first I've heard of it but it makes sense with respect to money and crowd noise.

It's the birthright of every New Englander. That's why we come off as douches to the rest of the country...and we like it that way! :D

Hopefully it's true because I've been saying this for awhile. By filling in the part highlighted in yellow, you add thousands of seats which lets people who've been waiting for years on the waiting list get STs; it also will help the crowd noise.

I'm not going to be able to drive my car into the stadium anymore but if it'll add more crowd noise then I'm down.

I actually think it doesn't make sense. It is admitting they did something wrong to one of the sate of the art faciliities. Which I am not saying they did.

The end was intentially left as open aired for a reason. To show off the New England touches (the light house and bridge). I don't think they are going to cover that stuff up.

It really is a waste of space. I say pack as many bodies as possible in there.

I live in NorCal now, and most of the people are so laid back you wish you could cuff them around a little bit to wake them up. I enjoy the spunk/wiseassness when I run into a New Englander, or even a NY or NJ type. Maybe the Krafts want to tinker with Gillette like Sox ownership do with Fenway. Of course, with the latter, they're just trying to generate more revenue.

Looks like it would be closer to 500 seats.

But lets say a 1,000 seats at an average of $200 per seat?

That's $200,000.00 plus, extra a game, or $1.600,000.00 extra for 8 games, factor in playoffs and concessions and Pats would make an additional $2,250,000.00 per season.

I estimate $5,000,000.00 to modify the stadium, so the Pats would see the money returned in a little over 2 years.

    Pretty rough figures.

I am not convinced it is worth it.

I may be mistaken, but I believe that team execs have referred to the possibility of enclosing the end in the past. It's likely to happen someday, IMO.

As for our buddy's buddy's buddy...is he saying that he has learned of this in his professional capacity as one being consulted on wiring the thing? Or just as a fan?

Those numbers are VERY rough, I'm sure. But a 2 year payback is a great capital investment.

    ==============================

Or we could say that it would increase revenues by 6% per game. (1,000 new seats in a 60,000 seat stadium)
    That is a significant increase.

Then subtract the value that the space currently adds, which there must be some value to it or it would not be there in the first place. so lets say the space generates $25,000 per game, so that would extend the payback time by a couple of games.

I'm sure the current value is mostly subjective. From what I understand, the lighthouse doesn't really perform as well as it was envisioned to. I think it and the bridge are nothing special, to tell you the truth. They're not the green monster or Garden parquet in terms of distinctivess.
