Agreed on all except Melissa McBride! Haha she's awsome but I see your point.
In the comics Negan got away with being funny while cutting your throat.
I always knew it would be tough and thought they should have sided with scary over being funny. That would have came eventually but Negan should be the scariest man alive.
Same belief with the whisperers. Tough to play on T.V. I think they'll have scale down their #'s?
Kicking Darabont to the curb was the worst mistake this show has made. Darabont could have made this budget work. With regard to Negan, JDM can play the role. The writing is what sucks about the character. Ever seen Gimple on "Talking Dead". He's lifeless and constantly looks like he just crapped his pants. His lifelessness translates over to his writing.
Darabont was prob the biggest mistake even tho they recovered.
I'm even dying for Mazzara at this point.
I'm anticipating big changes to the script if the show continues.
Really curious how they pull off Negan living past late 8, early 9.
Eugene taking Dwights role and leading the saviors after Negan gets captured?
Doesn't look like hes coming back to team Family/survivor.
Going out on a limb here and saying this will be a great one.
What was once appointment television, the show just sucks now.
Agree. Gimple has gotten adept at masking how the show is spinning its wheels with action. That's why, even though there is a generous helping of action, it's often boring. Last night was a decent episode, but it's been a while since there was truly a GREAT one.
It’s going to be interesting to see how they do the real throwndown between Rick and Negan because Rick probably would have handed Negan his ass if he wasn’t ambushed.
Loved the epi but understand everyone's frustrations. I share a lot and have for a while.
I think a huge opportunity missed between Negan & Carl. Those 2 needed to spend real time with each other and it was missed.
Both are "comic" characters though and come away 100% better in print/illustration. JDM is a very good actor but the character, on TV doesn't do the comic justice or come close if I'm being honest.
The comic is & was always gunna be by Carl. Rick will prob die within 19-20 in comic and Carl will lead.
That could never happen on the show. It just couldn't.
Which leads me to what might the biggest spoiler of all time ..........
Back in Sept/Oct some fans that follow the filming found it curious Carl hasn't been around. TSDF made an unconfirmed post abt his death on Oct 24.
Turns out a few weeks ago Chandler Riggs (Carl) reached out to TSDF.
"One of the last few seasons"
Thought it took balls to do this by myself and glad they obliged.
Looks like the show might be done in 2-3 years?
I don’t think JDM is a problem at all. His first appearance on the show is iconic. The problem was the damn cliffhanger and the writing that’s came after. They lost the trust of the fans after the Glenn fake death/ and the season 6 finale. They never recovered from that.
Same with Chandler Riggs. His character is so important in the comics, but in the show he was a footnote. They’ve been too busy recycling storylines with Daryl and Carol. (How many times do they go rouge and eventually come back?) and they never gave his character a light to shine. Carl in the comics is a badass, in the show he comes off as a Lil *****. Not Chandler Riggs fault......
I blame the shows failures all on the writers of the show and AMC. Scott Gimple sucks. Season 4 was great, and season 5 too, but the show been stale since. No one cares about the garbage people, or the all chick group, or Tara, especially enough to warrant a full episodes for them. But the writers insisted.
All and all, the show needed the Negan storyline to be a smash hit to move the show forward. And it’s failed miserably. Difference between walking dead and GoT. GoT we’ll end on top, and walking dead not.
Anyone excited for this in the least on Sunday? I'm meh.
I still haven't watched since the season premiere. I intended to give other episodes a try, but it just doesn't interest me much. There are other, better shows coming on soon and I'll be turning my attention to those.
I'm watching the MSP tonight after work. It got 93% on RT so sounds like one of the best episodes in a while.
Very good epi.
Loved the Carl dream & present sequences.
Yeah, that was the best one in quite a while. They gave the characters (Rick and Michonne especially) some empathy while not getting bogged down in the death of Carl storyline. They simultaneously kept the plot moving. I have no hope that they'll continue down the path, but it was still good to see.
Watching last night’s episode now since I have the day off. The scene between The Saviors and trash people is epic!!!
Negan’s reaction to Carl’s death and then him laying the blame on Rick were some of the best writing for the character in this series.
Back to Back really good epi's & some great stuff laid out for Simon & Eugene.
Gov was Fantastic. Simon was in tilt. Talking **** & lying to Negan.
Best stuff from them two so far.
The end of the episode saved it from being otherwise pure filler crap.
