Interesting movie but left me with mixed feelings. What say ye?
Worth a watch in theaters? I’ve been very interested in it.
I saw it yesterday in IMAX. I think this is a film that casual film-watchers will hate, partly because of the way they marketed this film. When the first trailer for this film came out, I thought I was going to watch another space adventure film similar to Interstellar. I was lucky enough to watch the second and the third trailer as well as look at some of the quick reactions to the film during the Venice Film Festival, and I adjusted my expectations accordingly.
This is not a space sci-fi adventure film. This is a heavy character-driven film studying internal motivations and emotional growth that happens to take place in space, and I loved this film knowing what I was going into. People who expect another Interstellar or The Martian will think this is the most boring film of 2019.
I love this film because I can semi-relate to Brad Pitt's character and I understand what he was going through at times.
Very good assessment, I concur. And precisely because of the kind of character he portrayed, I'll bet Pitt considered it the easiest acting job of his career with the voiceovers explaining what he was feeling.
While the visuals are well done they're not central to the film like a Marvel outing; it's more "adult drama" than adventure yarn. It's worth seeing in the theater but not essential if you can wait for it on cable.
I’ll see it in theater. The only other movie I’ll probably see in theaters this year is “Joker.”
