Using this list
http://www.gbnreport.com/2006top100.html
and this chart
http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/8358748
our starting picks: 21,52,75,86,105,117,132,181,212

Make any trades you want... any trades you make incur a 10% penalty. for example, to move up from 21st to 16, you need to give up 1100 points. The 21st is worth 800, so you throw in another 300, any way you like... Please list details of each trade.... Trading down, you get 10% less than you should, so dropping from 21 to 31 will gain you 180 points (200-10%). You can pick any player at or below your slots.

Mine:
1. drop from 21 to 27, (net gain 108 pts to spend later) and pick
Bobby Carpenter LB
2. drop from 52 to 61 (gain 80 pts) and pick
Charles Spencer OG 6-5, 338 Pittsburgh
3. move up from 75 to 66 (loss of 50 points) and pick
*Darnell Bing SS 6-2, 220 Southern California
4. move up from 86 to 76 (loss of 55 pts) and pick
Elvis Dumervil DE 5-11, 258 Louisville
5 Move up from 105 to 89 (loss of 68 pts) and pick
Maurice Stovall WR 6-4, 216 Notre Dame
6. Move up from 117 to 112 (loss of 11) and pick
Fred Roach LB 6-2, 255 Alabama
7. Drop from 132 to 138 (gain 2 pts) and pick
David Thomas TE 6-3, 240 Texas
8. Pick Chijioke Oyengecha CB 6-1, 200 Oklahoma
9. pick Rocky McIntosh LB 6-2, 235 Miami

Too complicated for me....... I like your model though.

im going to try to make a spreadsheet that will do all the work... maybe in the next couple weeks, so people can try it.

Coolio, I'll look forward to that PWC :rocker:

If you get creative with this you can really end up with a great draft. Mine is sort of out of order because the draft I originally was trying to get I couldn't quite pull off.

1. Drop from 21 to 26 (gain 90 pts.) select:
Manny Lawson DE/OLB NC State

2. Trade up from 52 to 31 (lose 242 pts.) select:
Antonio Cromartie CB FSU

3. Trade down from 75 to 80 (gain 22.5 pts.) select:
Daniel Bullocks SS Nebraska

4. Trade down from 86 to 110 (gain 77.4 pts.) select:
Kai Parham ILB Virginia

5. Trade down from 105 to 149 (gain 47 pts.) select:
Steve Fifita NT Utah

6. Trade down from 117 to 157 (gain 28.26 pts.) select:
Mike Haas WR Oregon State

7. Trade down from 132 to 163 (gain 12.42 pts.) select:
Greg Jennings WR Western Michigan

8. Trade up from 181 to 134 (lose 22 pts.) select:
Tim Day TE Oregon

9. At pick 212 select:
Cedric Humes RB Virginia Tech

After the two big trade ups and a million trading downs I still had 15.58 points left which is like a late 6th rounder. I didn't realize I was going to have so many points left that is why the Tim Day trade messed everything up a little bit. But I was too lazy to change the trades around. The major downside of this draft was that I didn't address the OL. We would have to get a bunch of UDFA like Jhari Evans or just resign Neal. To me the rest of the draft is perfect though. I used a lot of high picks on defense but I felt I could get good value later on on some offensive players.

And indeed you did! In fact, I like yours so much I'm not going to bother with one of my own. (Special gold star for Steve Fifita.)

And we are left with 1.4 points to spare. :rocker: I, for one, would be extremely happy with this draft. How about the rest of you?

I loved Fifita's strength and hustle when I watched him in the Shrine Game, what raised the red flag was his inability to find the ball in traffic. Our Vince is a ball magnet, even when he was playing his worst to start the season he was tracking the ball wherever it went. With that concern, I personally wouldn't take Fifita before the 7th round.

Wow. My head hurts.

Thanks, that's useful info. I'm finding the DTs this year very hard to gauge overall. You have the character question marks (Dusty Dvoracek, Brodrick Bunkley, Claude Wroten, Kedric Golston), the effort and intensity question marks (Gabe Watson, Rodrique Wright, even Haloti Ngata), and the guys you want to like who don't fit the Patriots' scheme (Kyle Williams, Jonathan Lewis).

I'm starting to see the appeal of Montavious Stanley at NT...or maybe Cofield or Jolly at DE? (And how about Jeff Littlejohn?)

Cofield looked like a solid second day prospect, he played very well in the Shrine game and got some push on the pocket as well as being very good against the run. He was helped by lining up alongside Antwon Burton who sucked up double teams like a black hole - Burton has an injury history for his foot that would need a careful look, but he played rock in the middle very well. The other thing that helped Cofield was having Wyche pressuring from the outside, I think it was Henderson of GA Tech on the other side who was very fast and had very good gap discipline.

Jolly disappointed only in his style, he was shooting the gap and losing track of the ball, but I thought he had good potential to learn two-gap where his ball locating would likely improve as he would be playing more heads up rather then bull in a china shop. I grade him a safe value in the second round.

I'll need to research Littlejohn. Okay, 6'2" 319 5.09/40 per DraftScout, me likee.

Out of the names you rattled off, only Ngata and Lewis have any attraction for my Patriots' oriented perceptions. I think Ngata would work out the way that 'sloth' Warren did, good competition with his DL buddies and some veteran leadership will get it done. Lewis strikes me on paper as coachable, I like that.

Manase Hopoi has been the DT I liked the most in a game (Shrine), he penetrated well and was solid at the point of attack. GBN indicates he has a legal issue to check into so a red flag there. He's also a little light. Another smaller DT who penetrated and held the point well was Larry Dibble in the Hula Bowl, he was very disruptive against a mixed bag of linemen, but I'd give him a late round chance because of his hustle, disruptiveness, and he was playing thanks to the DL coach who had worked with him prior to going to another school - you have to like a player the coach wants to highlight, that coachability thing again.

My favorite is still Stanley, unfortunately it's based on paper, but I like his paper trail the same way I liked Luis Castillo's last season. There is something workable there, currently flying at tree-top level.

My sleeper is Daniel Federkeil (Calgary). He was listed at 6'7" 275 for the Shrine game and played Seymour's DE slot working on the left tackle. I just liked the raw talent I saw there, he was effective against the pass and run, and he hustled. The West team plugged him in for their game winning 4-3 (by rule) goal line stand (Jolly and Hopoi were also in that line, which tells me what the DL coach thought of their run stopping too). I've seen Fed listed on other sites at 285 and 295, I think he could play 3-4 DE around 300 with a little Woicik time. He has the lane clogging long arms and he was strong enough to give LT Whitworth (LSU and reportedly 50 lbs heavier) fits. Draft Daddy had good things to say about him.

I'll try this by posting trades that are realistic (value for value + the 10% hit).

1. (21) TRADED along with #132 for pick #26 + #122
#26 - Manny Lawson LB NC St.

2. (52) TRADED along with #122 + #212 for #39
#39 - Richard Marshall DB Fresno St.

3. (75) TRADED along with #117 for #66 + 7th in 2007
#66 - Darnell Bing SS USC

4. (86) Maurice Stovall WR Notre Dame

5. (105) Jerious Norwood RB Mississippi St

6. (181) Jeremy Bloom WR Colorado

20: Jimmy Williams, CB, Virginia Tech
63: Tatuisi Lutui, OG, USC
66: Darnell Bing, S, USC
93: Babatunde Oshinowo, NT, Stanford
110: Kai Parham, LB, Virginia
140: Paul Pinegar, QB, Fresno St.
143: Stanley McClover, Elephant, Auburn
157: Mike Hass, WR, Oregon St.
159: Mike Bell, RB, Arizona
174: Skyler Green, KR, LSU
187: Troy Bienneman, TE, Washington St.

if we pulled that off id be doing backflips,

My trades:
#21 + #52 + #105 --> #14 + #91
#75 + #132 + #181 --> #70 + #168
#86 + 117 --> #91 + #100

#14 - LB Chad Greenway, Iowa
Greenway is the prototype ILB that we've been looking for. The fact that GreatBlue has him ranked #14 is the biggest bargain on the board, especially given the urgency of our need.

#70 - DB Donte Whitner, Ohio State
Physical, great tackler, ball hawk with great hands, great intangibles. He sounds like Geno, but faster. Like Wilson and Gay, has S/CB flexibility.

#91 - OG Mark Setterstrom, Minnesota
Tough guy and a great addition to the running game. Very smart with top intangibles. Athletic and mobile. Fantastic insurance in case we lose Neal.

#100 - FB/TE Garrett Mills, Tulsa
Great hands, great blocker, great carrying the ball. Outsanding playmaker at TE in college, but projects better as a FB in the NFL. What makes him so compelling are his intangibles-- he was the heart and soul of the Tulsa team, and plays football hard.

#168 - WR Skyler Green, LSU
Another iron smurf, in the mold of David Patten. Good hands, great moves in the open field. Tough guy. Can contribute in the return game, and is a great find this deep in the draft.

#212 - DE Mike Kudla, Ohio State
6-3 265# underrated playmaker with good size. Will need time to make the conversion to OLB.

Alright, I have to admit, I love this draft class. Tough guys and playmakers with top intangibles at every position. No "boom or bust" picks, like Stovall or Tapp. All good bets, and players that fit our roster.

QB - Brady, (FA), Cassel
RB - Dillon, Faulk, Pass, Mills
WR - Branch, (Givens), (Brown), Green, Johnson, Smith
TE - Graham, Watson, (Fauria)
OT - Light, Kaczur, Gorin
OG - Mankins, (Neal), Setterstrom
OC - Koppen, Hochstein

NT - Wilfork, Wright
DE - Seymour, Warren, Green, Hill, Klecko
OLB - McGinest, Vrabel, Colvin, Banta-Cain, Davis
ILB - Bruschi, Greenway, Beisel, Claridge, Izzo, Chatham
CB - Samuel, Hobbs, Gay, Whitner
S - Harrison, Wilson, Sanders, Scott

ST - (Vinatieri), Miller, Paxton
