After the two big trade ups and a million trading downs I still had 15.58 points left which is like a late 6th rounder. I didn't realize I was going to have so many points left that is why the Tim Day trade messed everything up a little bit. But I was too lazy to change the trades around. The major downside of this draft was that I didn't address the OL. We would have to get a bunch of UDFA like Jhari Evans or just resign Neal. To me the rest of the draft is perfect though. I used a lot of high picks on defense but I felt I could get good value later on on some offensive players.

Cofield looked like a solid second day prospect, he played very well in the Shrine game and got some push on the pocket as well as being very good against the run. He was helped by lining up alongside Antwon Burton who sucked up double teams like a black hole - Burton has an injury history for his foot that would need a careful look, but he played rock in the middle very well. The other thing that helped Cofield was having Wyche pressuring from the outside, I think it was Henderson of GA Tech on the other side who was very fast and had very good gap discipline.

Jolly disappointed only in his style, he was shooting the gap and losing track of the ball, but I thought he had good potential to learn two-gap where his ball locating would likely improve as he would be playing more heads up rather then bull in a china shop. I grade him a safe value in the second round.

Out of the names you rattled off, only Ngata and Lewis have any attraction for my Patriots' oriented perceptions. I think Ngata would work out the way that 'sloth' Warren did, good competition with his DL buddies and some veteran leadership will get it done. Lewis strikes me on paper as coachable, I like that.

Manase Hopoi has been the DT I liked the most in a game (Shrine), he penetrated well and was solid at the point of attack. GBN indicates he has a legal issue to check into so a red flag there. He's also a little light. Another smaller DT who penetrated and held the point well was Larry Dibble in the Hula Bowl, he was very disruptive against a mixed bag of linemen, but I'd give him a late round chance because of his hustle, disruptiveness, and he was playing thanks to the DL coach who had worked with him prior to going to another school - you have to like a player the coach wants to highlight, that coachability thing again.

My favorite is still Stanley, unfortunately it's based on paper, but I like his paper trail the same way I liked Luis Castillo's last season. There is something workable there, currently flying at tree-top level.

My sleeper is Daniel Federkeil (Calgary). He was listed at 6'7" 275 for the Shrine game and played Seymour's DE slot working on the left tackle. I just liked the raw talent I saw there, he was effective against the pass and run, and he hustled. The West team plugged him in for their game winning 4-3 (by rule) goal line stand (Jolly and Hopoi were also in that line, which tells me what the DL coach thought of their run stopping too). I've seen Fed listed on other sites at 285 and 295, I think he could play 3-4 DE around 300 with a little Woicik time. He has the lane clogging long arms and he was strong enough to give LT Whitworth (LSU and reportedly 50 lbs heavier) fits. Draft Daddy had good things to say about him.

Greenway is the prototype ILB that we've been looking for. The fact that GreatBlue has him ranked #14 is the biggest bargain on the board, especially given the urgency of our need.

#70 - DB Donte Whitner, Ohio State
Physical, great tackler, ball hawk with great hands, great intangibles. He sounds like Geno, but faster. Like Wilson and Gay, has S/CB flexibility.

#91 - OG Mark Setterstrom, Minnesota
Tough guy and a great addition to the running game. Very smart with top intangibles. Athletic and mobile. Fantastic insurance in case we lose Neal.

#100 - FB/TE Garrett Mills, Tulsa
Great hands, great blocker, great carrying the ball. Outsanding playmaker at TE in college, but projects better as a FB in the NFL. What makes him so compelling are his intangibles-- he was the heart and soul of the Tulsa team, and plays football hard.

#168 - WR Skyler Green, LSU
Another iron smurf, in the mold of David Patten. Good hands, great moves in the open field. Tough guy. Can contribute in the return game, and is a great find this deep in the draft.

#212 - DE Mike Kudla, Ohio State
6-3 265# underrated playmaker with good size. Will need time to make the conversion to OLB.


Alright, I have to admit, I love this draft class. Tough guys and playmakers with top intangibles at every position. No "boom or bust" picks, like Stovall or Tapp. All good bets, and players that fit our roster.
