Lets assume we make it to the super bowl again this year. Looking at the lineups would you give the advantage to 2011 or 2012.

Player by player breakdown

QB Brady/Brady =
RB Green-Ellis/Ridley +
WR Branch/Lloyd +
WR Welker/Welker =
TE Gronk/Gronk =
TE Hernandez/Hernandez =
LT Light/Solder - (Experience factor)
LG Mankins/Mankins =
C Connolly/Wendell -
RG Waters/Connolly -
RT Solder/Vollmer +

LE Ellis/Nink +
DT Love/Love =
DT Wilfork/Wilfork =
RE Anderson/Jones +
LB Ninkovich/Hightower +
LB Spikes/Spikes =
LB Mayo/Mayo =
CB McCourty/Talib +
CB Arrington/Dennard +
FS Brown/McCourty +
SS Chung/Chung =

I am not even taking into account players who have improved YOY like Spikes, Love etc and I see a drastic improvement.

I agree with most of what you said, but as of late Patrick Chung is not the starter.

There have been some heavy rumors that he was a healthy scratch last weekend vs IND, and he only played in 22/72 snaps in the recent NYJ game.

One could argue that Gregory would be an upgrade in some areas, and a liability in comparison to Chung in others.

One way or another, I think that our secondary can be much better and deeper than last season though, although we're still kind of far to project everyone on the team with 5 games still remaining for injuries.

I do agree that if everything stays status quo right now, you have hit a lot of those right on the head.

A healthy Gronk would be a giant plus over the banged-up facsimile we saw last year.

Defense is all plus's or equal, plus the guys who improved.
Offense is some of all 3, but overall I would easily take this year's, now if Gronk and Ahern get healthy... :eek:

like someone said, the defense has seen improvement across the board (both in individuals and as a unit)

the ground game is much better this year, QB is the same, and TE and WR corps are about the same, so the only question is the Oline...and even though name-wise and experience wise they are minuses, their play so far, and i believe up to the SB, will show that they are indeed at the very least on par with last year's Oline

Volmer, Deadrick and Ohenigbo (sp) started in the SB last year. The road to the SB will likely be a lot harder with Manning and Shaub healthy.

barring injury Gregory would start over Chung imo. better instincts in coverage...though hes a terrible tackler.

Nickel Secondary:
CB1: Moore -> Talib +++++
CB2: Molden -> Dennard +++++
Slot: Arrington -> Arrington = (although would have been a downgrade prior to his strong stretch lately)
FS: McCourty -> McCourty + (much more experience at the position)
SS: Chung -> Gregory

Eh, hard to tell on that last one considering that people's opinion of Chung is at an all time low and their opinion of Gregory is at an all time high. But the top two CBs and a more experienced McCourty are enough for this one to be pretty obvious.

Solder wouldn't be a downgrade from Light in this scenario. I get what you're saying there, but Light (and the OL in general, but him in particular) had serious issues in the last two Super Bowls...
