They have already more than enough to cement their legacy as one of the all time best.. I would say if there is one thing missing from an otherwise masterful resume is a dominant victory where their dominance is never in doubt. Most people respect the ring count but there are still some that...
Brady's passer rating for the Dallas game was 130.9 but his QBR was 24.1? In what universe does that make any sense? Only Foles had a "worse" game this week than Brady according to QBR.. not a good look QBR.. not a good look..
I honestly think it's Gronkowski and the reason has more to do with favorable matchups than actual skill sets and abilities. Moss was the best deep threat the game has ever seen but due to the nature of his position and the nature of the game, he never gets the favorable matchups Gronkowski can...
Barring an awful game, Aaron Rodgers is still the MVP. However, I think this week, he lost the unanimous selection he was on track for. I mean a guy that shatters Marino's passing record while shattering his own completion % and throwing ~40tds has to get some 1st place votes.
I keep hearing that Denver picked Tebow in the 1st round because they knew Belichick was fond of him. This might have turned out quite fortuitous for both organizations because if Denver didn't pick Tebow in the 1st, there's a chance the Patriots would have picked him in the 2nd instead of...
Gronk is the football version of Donk from Crocodile Dundee.
Denning: You should have brought a gun instead of a beer mate
Nugget: Nah I don't need one, I got a Donk
Denning: A What?
Donk: A Donk
Yeah I think they have a lot of issues and there are stats to show this but the stat most often being used is not the right one. The alarming stats that do indicate they suck is the 63.9% completion percentage and the 8.03YPA surrendered. That shows they are not only giving up a lot of yards...
Basically the passer rating and points allowed are middle of the pack so shouldn't those be the bigger criteria by which we judge this defense on rather than total yards? I mean if this were the case, we'd be saying Young and Orvlovsky had much better games than Brady when they obviously did not.
Yeah the most alarming stat is the 64% completion rate and the 8.03YPA. The total passing yards surrendered is emphasized way too much and it is this stat that gives them the "historically bad" label.
Here is a screen print of the spreadsheet. I had excel do the math
If you look at the season totals on the top right, the first row shows their actual season totals while the line below it shows their season totals omitting the totals from the Patriots games.
Feel free to point out any...
A) When I did my calculations, it was based on the same QBs the Patriots faced, not all QBs in general.. So we're comparing apples to apples as far as which QBs are concerned. The only exception is Orlovsky for whom has no full games against any other team this year. But the quality of QB is...
But the question is, if this defense is so much worse than everybody else, why is the passer rating differential only 0.24? That would seem to indicate the pass defense is merely just average. When you factor in all the garbage time yardage accrued, it somewhat mitigates the 34yards per game...
I honestly expected to see a much higher passer rating against the Pats relative to what they do to the rest of the league but it simply is not the case. I think these numbers indicate they are more of a middle of the road pass defense than they are a historically bad one. It's at the crux of...
It is a bit crazy that opposing teams are on pace to rack up 5,192yards of passing against the Patriots but it's not as bad when you take in the context that these same QBs are on average on pace to put up 4,663 yards for a full season against the rest of the opponents they face.
Okay so I know the Patriots Pass defense is not good by any measure but in doing some research on their performances it does not seem as bad as most people say. Hear me out.
The eyeball test as well as the analysts incessantly mentioning they are historically bad seemed to indicate the pass...
Any patsfans know what the NFL record is for most TD receptions by any player in their first two seasons? The highest I've seen is Randy Moss with 28 which could be within Gronk's reach.
I'm inclined to pick the Saints. Their offense is as good as any in the league. Their passing game is on par with the Pats passing game while I think they have better depth and talent at the RB position. Defensively it's about a wash though I think they have a few more playmakers than the...
