Re: Question on "Half the Distance to the Goal"
I'm not saying I agree with the rule, but I think the thinking behind this is that if the P.I. happens in the end zone, it pretty much must have prevented a score, so putting it at the 1 is "fair"?
I am a college official and prefer our rule...
Re: Question on "Half the Distance to the Goal"
Actually, any 15 yard penalty that occurs inside the 30 is 1/2 the distance, since if at the 29 a 15 yard mark off would leave it more than 1/2 way to the goal.
I saw some clips last night, and had to appreciate one miked up segment of Brett. (This one especially hit home as a football official).
Brett sidles up to an official on the sideline, says "who's that guy?" and the official answers, Brett says "You know what he should do, he should take...

Finally, some good news where the team is concerned yesterday, as Tedy Bruschi put the clamps on any more retirement talk by signing a...
While I totally agree with your first point, your second point is suspect. The Pats' D held the Giants to 17 points, if you knew that going into the game, you would have said the Pats blew them out.
The D gave up the last drive, true, but given the last drive by the Pats' O, it's a mystery...
Put me in the camp that puts the majority of the blame for the loss on the coaches, but not all of it. The players share some of the blame for not executing (yes I'm talking to you Asante Samuel and O linemen).
Peter King in his column today points out that the Pats chipped the Giants D line...
I'm a huge Pats fan, and I'm no Shaugnessy fan, but I have to agree with him on this one. I wanted 19-0 a lot, I was happy the Pats got to 18-0 and I thought they would beat the Giants.
However, the loss in Game 6 in 86 was the biggest loss in my life, for the simple fact that the game was...
Have you ever officiated one football game in your life? "one can not advance the ball"? "you can't advance a fumble"? Show me where it says this in ANY football rulebook.
If they had not called it an illegal bat, they would have given the ball to the Giants at the spot of the recovery...
Yes, yes, yes, I did, no facemask on Seymour. Holding? Maybe. At that point of the game? I didn't have a HUGE problem with them not calling it.

Pats had several chances to do so, and didn't. Do you really want to continue to look for ways the refs screwed the Pats...
Dude, I'm begging you, you sound like a friggin 5 year old.
The Pats lost. The Giants BEAT them.
On Sunday February 3rd the Giants were the better team.
You really need to let this go, it's unbecoming to continue to whine about missed calls/no whistles/blah blah blah.
Asante...
