I like the start of your post - get that home field. I can see the kid coming in in games that the Pats are up by more than 14 with 12 minutes left, but actually starting when TB is healthy< nuh unh.
Right now the kid looks like the best he can be is a Bob Griese that can run - I.E. 14-23 183 yds, 1 TD or a Brady circa 2001. Not so special until you consider on a wagon type team that might be good enough.
BB had enough of Welker in the dressing room and media (most vexing in that regard since Vrabel) and given Welker's swift fall as a player I can't see what interest BB would have in him.
I had Dobson in my mock, I really wanted him to suceed. He'll be around in camp next year but he's used up...
"Then:
I could see PATS, unemotionally, decide to pick up significant assets for a QB that may have only 1 to 4 years left. (like two number ones plus a pro bowl quality player, for example)."
The team trading for Brady will have to pay dearly ($) for him. Any team dealing for him would have...
I was one of the first here several years ago to come out against Mallett as being a golden arm with terrible footwork, slow reads, no instincts whatever. Glad he's gone. Wish BB was able to get more lipstick on the pig for a better trade result, but whatever. Mallett will not make a dent...
You do realize that the Pats roster cuts will be among the top 2-3 most picked over the next week right? Meaning those teams don't have rosters as good, and their needs are different. I liked Jones myself, but I reckon BB has a better handle on it than anyone here.
It's a process from two directions. Brady declines, JG grows, Brady is getting paid more than he's worth (in the future), JG has one more year on his deal, and continued to grow and learn. It's not just one thing, it will multiple considerations that key/cause the change.
I grew up watching bozo's in the 60's. I know better than most how great this era is, but BB won't be married to the past if its costs the team wins, even for Brady.
Brady isn't what he was in 2007 or 2011. Mentally? He might be better. But not physically. We've got an OL in uproar. He could get hit, he could start having other issues.
Bottom line is when Brady's level of play starts to not meet his contract and/or JG's rookie deal is starting to...
Wishful thinking?
If Houston isn't happy with the QB value on the board at #33, they could draft one in the 3rd or 4th round, and make a deal for Mallett and let them compete for the job. If Houston goes for Mallett it could be a late pick this year - say #211, and a sliding 2nd-7th next year...
I'd say that we are not moving from 3-4 to 4-3. The move is already complete. Wonder if BB would have signed VW if he knew he'd draft Easley?
Also to whomever said a 2nd round Center - hope not. 5th-7th round Centers not much less than the top 2-3 kids are out there. Meanwhile we could use...
Celt fans well overrate what Rondo is worth in a trade. Now that he's come out and refused to sign an extension, he's practically worthless for the coming year in a deal. Plus add in he's gone into a hideous 4 year tailspin from his peak (including his on ball D which started to go to hell...
Umm.. Russell, Havlicek, Bird, Cowens all were more "ultimate Celts" than PP. Once KG walked in the door he eclipsed PP as a leader as well. Pierce is a mid tier HOF player with a long career, and should be honored for what he was and did here - but he's not the "ultimate" anything in Celtic...
There are some outstanding WR's available in the 2nd, so no need to trade up. Ebron may go top 10, he's simply not worth it. If we draft a TE, probably CJF late 3rd-mid 4th.
