Yes that’s definitely the ideal situation, but unfortunately we don’t really know how Mayo is at evaluating talent.
I have zero confidence that a career defensive player / coach will have ANY idea what to actually look for in a QB.
I expect his draft and offense to be almost historically bad...
Not really.
If the Bruins went 4-13 over a 17 game stretch, that would be bad. But if during those games, they lost 8 of them by a score of 5-4 with the goalie clearly letting up 3-4 soft goals a game, it would be safe to assume with a new goalie and maybe 1-2 upgrades on defense, the team...
Finally watched the presser
Kraft is a rambling mess as expected
I didn’t really see the jabs by Mayo to BB. I guess his comments about an echo chamber, but was there more I missed?
Regarding the echo chamber, while I love Bill, it does seem to be more in that direction over recent years...
I didn’t listen to the presser. Frankly I don’t really care about the Pats right now. Doesn’t matter who they hired, I’m annoyed they fired BB from fan pressure.
I’m sure I’ll get over it and root for them by the time the season rolls around but as of now, Kraft annoys me.
But, what digs did...
Pretty much sums up my feelings.
Obviously as a Pats fan I want him to do well but this entire situation is just weird. But obviously we don’t know behind the scenes stuff. And while it’s rare for a rookie HC to succeed, he’s almost a clone of Ryans.
Both similar coaching history, both...
Agreed. I thought of that today watching Mac grow impatient on the sideline when Zappe was struggling.
Sometimes “star” players need the reality check. I use star loosely obviously but being a college champion starting QB, rookie pro bowler he was probably getting a big head.
Mac has more...
And let’s say the team builds off this. Zappe has two more 100+ rating games. Next thing you know, drafting a QB (who has a far better chance at being a bust than a franchise player) is less pressure and they can pick up a sure thing.
Maybe grab Alt.
Hypothetically committing to Zappe leads...
Yea it’s like stocks.
Some stocks rebound and you can regain some of your losses. Some just never do and you have to accept it.
Of course unlike stocks, Mac has to play to get his value up and that’s just not going to happen. He’s basically a sunk cost for next year so maybe they let him go...
How long ago was this?
Sounds too well spoken to be a recent Kraft chat. Don’t get me wrong, I love the guy, but with age he can’t seem to produce coherent sentences these days.
Yea I think there is definitely some middle tier players who are largely affected by the person throwing the ball. Parker and Juju can be decent to good in certain situations. They have track records (tbd Boutte). But I have to agree that Thornton has looked just bad and he’d probably be ****ty...
This has been my theory all along.
Mac was humiliated during the Buffalo game and made worse by the countless memes that followed - some of which teammates liked iirc.
He got to face a horrific Jags team that gave him a slight confidence boost but he just hasn’t been the same since.
I’m sure that didn’t help but it’s hard to have any sympathy if true. Playing arguably the hardest position in sports where the entire team rests on your shoulder, you need mental toughness.
If pulling him from games irreparably messed him up, he was never going to make it in this league...
It was nice that Belichick finally gave Zappe a real chance. Wasn’t placed in a blowout or a 2 minute drill. Clean half and he was just mediocre. So he’s out.
Regarding Mac, anyone know where I can watch a replay of the game? I want to see his face again when he was about to get hit. He looked...
I’d rather sign Cousins for 2-3, trade down to pick up another first and second and then grab a QB later on to mentor under him for 1-2 seasons.
This way you’re guaranteed a competent QB who can win now while they have more talented rookies and ideally FA signings. Can quickly right this ship
Unfortunately this is too accurate and why I’m personally not excited about drafting an early qb.
It almost feels like playing a high odds lottery that costs a boatload to play. Sure it would be great to enter a multi million dollar lottery with a 1/5-1/8 chance to win, but it hurts a ton if...
I’m going to guess it was a trade deadline clash.
Probably tried to trade Adams for the future but Davis didn’t want to hurt ticket sales (or the other way around)
Yea that happened just hours after watching Mac basically turtle and take sacks any time players got close.
Of course, if Mac had attempted what Joe did it would have ended comically bad.
It’s amazing how people can think a guy like Purdy is a product of the system but don’t think the same can happen in college where it’s easier to have completely stacked rosters.
(This isn’t a Purdy debate, just using an example)
I’ve seen people show clips of his college reel to prove he’s a...
Watching the game today, I assumed there would be tons of people blaming the loss on the refs. And while everyone acknowledged the refs were indeed terrible, the excuse this week to defend Mac is “hard to win when the defense lets up 31”
It’s incredible how people still can’t admit he’s just...
The wild part is the same fans who watched Brady thread the needle for nearly 2 decades suddenly forgot NFL receivers are rarely wide open. Brady would make a living throwing where only the receivers can catch it because they were often be covered.
He had arguably four key receivers in his...
