As far as I’m aware, he had two surgeries this off season: one to repair a separated ac joint in his shoulder (Feb) and then a second to address ‘loose bodies’ in his knee.
Already time for the Edelman drop conversation?
Edelman currently shares the lead, per PFF, in number of dropped passes by WRs (and all skill players, when search expanded - he has 7, tied with Michael Gallup). However, he is ranked 22nd in drop% against other WRs only and 31st against other...
Super Bowl LIII MVP Julian Edelman Is Subject of New Showtime Sports Documentary Film
The film joins Edelman as he attempts to overcome the challenge of a season-ending surgery and PED suspension all while exposing the unorthodox origins that built him into one of the NFL’s most affable stars...
I think slot receiver is finally becoming a staple in a number of teams. Hence the market inefficiency of it being a low paid role, compared to your traditional WR, is now gone. Shame that Welker and Edelman, two of the main reasons for its increased use, will never benefit financially from the...
This is a great read - someone from SI reviewed game following the principles outlined in Steve Belichick’s book:-
I Scouted the Patriots Using Steve Belichick’s Book
I’m with Greg...
Having just watched the all22, as a relative newbie and focusing on Offence only, Edelman balled out this game. Manhandled, often double teamed, still can’t believe he got over 100yds. There was so much you didn’t see on the live version of the game (why I love the all22, can...
I imagine most teams would also dread having a unathletic 6th rounder as QB...
Amazing how some players exceed their draft position. Never understand why this is always raised as a positive for Brady but used as a negative against his receivers.
From what I’ve read, if it positive for a PED and a masking agent, suspension would have been for 6 games not 4. Just a masking agent, no PED? 2 games.
He may not have the fastest 40 time, but his agility drills (3 cone and short shuttle) are, too my understanding, in the elite range or at least were when he originally tested. These drills just don’t seem to be as highly regarded as the ability to run fast in a straight line, unless you are...
If the argument is that Edelman is only perceived as good, and hence overrated, because of the system and QB, why does this argument not also apply to Welker? ;)
Just to check:-
When people say athletic, is it in relation to the forty time?
Explosive is the vertical and broad jumps?
3 cone and shuttle the agility/change direction drills?
Given most people think Austin Carr didn’t make the roster due to inability to create separation, why would...
Out of interest, if the Patriots decided to redo Gronk’s contract, how many other players on the team would then have a valid complaint about also being significantly underpaid? How many of those players would people then Ali’s want to see get paid? Or is Gronk the exception and everyone else...
Ref the comments on Welker’s route running, in the middle of reading Edelman’s ‘Relentless’ and funnily enough it included the following passage:-
"there were still plenty of things I was getting MF’ed for, mainly the times I improvised to get open. When it worked and I caught the ball, nobody...
Does Gronk have top end WR1 production? Over the last four years, he has 3,924 yards/52 games. Julio Jones has 6,317 yards/61 games and Antonio Brown has 6,349 yards/61 games. So not near elite wide receiver yardage.
I assume he has lower yardage because of the blocking he is called to do...
First off, good for Dola. Didn’t think the Patriots would pay him that kind of money, but pleased for him that another team did.
Also, given Dola leaving for the $’s and all the rumours surrounding Gronk and Brady and how long they’ll keep playing for, wonder if Edelman regrets signing his...
I hope he gets the option to stay. Clutch as anything, especially in the Super Bowl (didn’t realise just how good all his SB specific stats were).
If anything, his main problem is Edelman being back on the team (allowing for the fact we don’t yet know what version of Edelman we’ll be getting...
Gronks average annual salary is $9million/year over the length of the contract (six years, $54M total, with $8m signing bonus and $12M guaranteed at signing). Then there’s the $5M extra he earned last season. As best I can work out, the top free agent wide receiver that year got a contract for...
With all the chat around 3rd downs this season, thought it would be fun to look at what receivers stood out in the postseason for 3rd down completions only:-
JE - 23/34 (67.6%)
DA - 10/17 (58.8%)
RG - 14/26 (53.8%)
WW - 9/21 (42.9%)
Per Pro Football Reference, Edelman’s 3rd down completion...
