This is a little bit of cherry picking, too. It assumes that the main reason for Belichick's decision is mistrust of Gostkowski, rather than a different assessment of the game situation from yours. For example, Belichick may have thought that a field goal wasn't enough even if made.
I lived in Pittsburgh for a few years and I can attest. They're into football at all levels. And they're loyal to a fault.
They're also parochial dumbasses who think that if it isn't Pittsburgh, it isn't good. Which is the fault part of the equation.
