Patriots show interest in KC defensive end Jared Allen

propaganda my friends, this is a smokescreen to be completely honest I have no idea what the Patriots will do with the seventh pick in the draft.
So to keep my sanity and not waste my time I am simply gonna stop guessing and just wait till the big day!
Oh who am I kidding trade down with somebody and pick up a extra second and third damn't

Jared Allen is the best defensive player in the NFL. He should have won DPOY last season. If the Pats feel he has his alcohol issue under control, and put the proper support system around him, I would happily trade the #7 pick for Jared Allen, and do a jig.

The problem is that KC, who know him best, obviously don't feel he's worth the risk of a new contract. So there's major risk. But BB obviously is adept at operational risk management.

If Pats are really interested in this guy, I guess that means Adalius Thomas is back to ILB spot again? I don't know. I actually liked Adalius Thomas playing OLB last season when given chances rather than being ILB.

I'm not saying this is going to happen (I actually think it won't), but can some of you guys think a little less traditional?

In other words, why would Allen's addition automatically mean AD's going back to ILB? AD rotating with Vrabel at OLB, or Allen playing more downs, with Vrabel rotating in at OLB would make some sense, too. Also, it's not like the Patriots can't add another ILB to the roster, and they've already got Bruschi and Hobson to help out there. If anything it would make AD's rotating in and out at both ILB and OLB a more realistic option, because he's currently their best (or second best) OLB, and they need to add solid depth at the position. Hobson can play OLB, but i think the Patriots are planning to use him more at ILB (seems Hobson agrees).

I was just in the car and heard on 810 sports radio out of kansas city that the Patriots are one of 3 teams interested in Jared Allen.
According to the guys on the radio, the chiefs turned down the offer of minnesota's 1st and 3rd this year.

Chiefs are looking for the vikings 1st and 2nd this year and swapping 1sts next year if the chiefs have a better record or the vikings first if the chiefs have a worse record.

I just checked KC 810 Sports Radio website and found NOTHING regarding the Patriots interest in Allen

They speculate if not Minnesota then Tampa Bay is willing to negotiate

This isn't just another imaginary story/thread to spice up the Patriots main forum with big name players and alleged interest in them is it? - If it isn't then its probably just some blowhard radio guy trying to get a rise out of the listeners down there

I searched everywhere else and also heard nothing of any interest by New England - not even a scheduled visit - I don't think its remotely a chance he comes here - He will want way too much money.

So midwestpatsfan is just lying about what he heard right ?

Didn't say that he lied , but I have seen spectacular stories in here before.

You take it for what its worth to YOU - and I'll take what its worth to ME

I prefer links whenever possible and a story like this should have a link soon and somewhere on the net if the Patriots are involved and are interested.

My brother's doctor's broker's attorney's cousin's mistress knows Jared Allen, and she pretty much confirmed this TS's post.

Does this count too?:p

He said he heard it on the radio - you suggested it's imaginary. Of course you're saying he lied.

And I DO remember at least a little interest from us last year. So it's totally reasonable that we would be interested again.

Of course, after the Pats' legendary "spending spree" last season, the Patriots will probably be mentioned in every major FA negotiation for, oh, the next five years or so. . . . :)

Whatever - Who really cares until we hear it from the NE FO or KC?

Media crap means virtually nothing but a stab in the dark to get a story until it actually comes from the horses mouth.

Last year this team had plenty of money to spend - Its tougher and tighter this year and a guy with pedigree like Jared Allen is not going to play for pocket change and you would need this team to do a miraculous package contract on the cap and a really good incentive to get him here besides just being a contender - being a contender is just not enugh in most cases, its all about the $$$$.

Brady,Bruschi and Moss taking less cash to play for a contender are RARE in today's world of professional sports.

FWIW Scouts.com is confirming what the original poster heard.
PATRIOT64 loves to rip on the board - back to when some of us dared to suggest that SF wouldn't make the playoffs after we traded for their #1 - homers, he called us

Anyway, the linked article says the Patriots have been interested for a few months but doesn't say much else.

Thanks for the info - Thats what I was expecting sooner or later

Regardless of anything,I still think we have a better chance to have Peyton Manning as a backup QB on this team then we have of Jared Allen playing here with his likely high money demands.

Still clinging to that stuff BelichickFan after over a year past since discussion? - how sad :(

I still think its a different story if it were not for injuries to Smith and Gore last year who were 2 key cogs to that offense in SF

I expect Smith to play good this year and Gore back to pro bowl type play

Take a starting QB and a pro bowl RB away from his team for even a few games and you are going to stink,Take Brady and Moss away from the Patriots and we draft #7 next year without a prior trade.

How does Allen's contract demands compare with what we'd be giving the #7 overall pick, on average? Frankly, I'd much rather have Allen if it's only the case of a couple million dollars. The guy's very young and very dominant, and there's a strong possibility that he'd be able to move to OLB. Even if he couldn't, it'd allow the Patriots to play a 4-3, something that I think the coaching staff is looking heavily at. I think he'll be better than anyone else available at the pick like Rivers, Groves, or even Gholston.

We don't own any of the 49ers picks for next year, so who cares?

Allen allegedly wants a Freeney type deal... 6/72 with $ 30 mill guaranteed.

How will this compare to the # 7 slot salary expectation?
