The upside: the foreseeable future of the JETS

I do think the Jets will take Gholston if he is available no matter who else is available. Mangini and Tannenbaum have pretty much gambled this year will be a playoff contender or they are on the unemployment line in January of 2009. I think they feel Thomas Jones (with Leon Washington as the change of pace back) can be the answer at RB in the short term. They need more pass rushers to make the defense better and I don't think Calvin Pace is good enough to be their top pass rush threat.

I thought Revis had a pretty good rookie season, but let's not go overboard. He covered well at times, but still got burnt for a lot of big plays too. He will probably get better especially if the Jets front seven get significantly better but he is no lock to ever sniff the Super Bowl.

What he did vs. Moss was irrelevant since he and every other Jets defender got burnt badly against him in the opening game (Moss got 183 yards and a TD) and the second game was in the middle of a N'orEaster (even still, Moss had 5 catches for 79 yards) .

Revis is definitely not one of the worst CB in the league, but he is not as good as you seem to think he is. He had a good rookie season, but has a long way to go before he is considered among the best CBs in the league.

Revis even got high praise from BB after week one and on those MOSS TD's Revis is no where to be found. Of the TD's he gave up this year I can remember, Edwards made a sick catch where he grabs it off Revis back (nothing you can do about that), Romo puts it where only T.O. could catch it, he was clocked by his own man (Abram Elam) as lee evans caught and ran for a TD but Revis would have had the pick, and those are the ones I can remember which were on his watch coverage wise. He had a rough outting against the Bills at buffalo but the kid play good for the most part w/o the benefit of a pass rush. He was drafted top 15 and he is living up to the billing, im not alone when I think he has a pro bowl in his future. Maybe not this year but 3 or 4 years down the road I expect him to be a top ten corner, I think that high of him. He not only is a good coverage guy, he is an excellent tackler for his position.

Add BBWK just having failed a physical with Denver to the list. There's speculation that the Jets will need to cut the guy outright now.

I can see the Jets right anywhere from 6 to 9 wins. Last year's 49ers and the Redskins most of the years they have been owned by Daniel Snyder has shown us that buying high priced free agents doesn't mean you are going to field a competitive team.

I look at every offseason acquisition for the Jets to have a question mark.

Can Kris Jenkins stay focused, happy, and healthy? Can he make the transition to NT in a 3-4? He supposably liked the nightlife in a small town like Charlotte, what is going to do in NYC?

Was Calvin Pace a contract year one year wonder? Was he even all that good even last year to be relied on as the Jets' stud pass rusher if they don't get a Vernon Gholston in the draft? Do the Jets have enough pass rushers to have Pace not neutralized by a double team?

Is perenial underachiever Damien Woody their answer at RT? Is 4-5 good games at RT last year enough of test case to show that he can make the permanent transition to that spot?

How much does Alan Faneca have left? Will Nick Mangold and D'Brickishaw Ferguson return to their solid rookie forms with him there or were their rookie seasons flukes? Wasn't Ferguson's rookie season one of the most overrated season of 2006 anyway (he was personally responsible for 10 sacks that season)?

At age 36, what does Tony Richardson have left? How about Bubba Franks? With a potent offense of the Packers, he wasn't much of a threat.

And the biggest question of all: Who is going to be their QB? And a related question: Are either Kellen Clemmens or Chad Pennington the answer?

Sorry, I know a lot of people love their moves. I question a lot of them. I wanted the Pats to get Pace, but I thought he would be a value free agent without a huge price tag and never expected him to be the premiere pass rusher on this team. I would have said he was a good complimentary piece, but he is their Mike Vrabel. Faneca was a good move even if he was expensive. Other than that, their moves have been unimpressive to me.

I completely agree with this take, and I'm not at all sold on their offseason moves to date.

Rob is spot on most of his concerns over the signings. I feel the Richardson and Franks signing were nice one year investments in guys who will vastly improve our running game. Richardson at the age of 36 made the pro bowl last year and still has much to offer, as you guys know all to well players who are near the end of their career have a lot to offer as well despite their age. Franks is a great run blocker and a solid red zone threat, his health however is a reoccurring theme. Im not sure if Faneca is a ?. IMO he has 2-3 yrs left of high quality left in him.

rotoworld reported that Robertson failed his physical w/ the Broncos but according tosources they were looking to overlook that but they could not agree on financial terms. At this point odds are he will be cut by June.

Check the stats here. I may have overstepped my bounds by calling him one of the worst, but he certainly isn't one of the best at this point in his career.

Its ok, Revis is a good young corner. he is not a pro bowler as of now but he has had games where he has shown signs of brilliance. Im not trying to dispute the facts but Revis did miss most of training camp, and played on a team with no pass rush and stepped in day one as a rookie and performed quite well IMO. Only time will tell if he lives up to expectation but worse case I feel he is a solid to above average corner.

From Newsday.com:

"First of all, Robertson did fail his physical with the Broncos, but the team was willing to overlook the medical evidence based on the fact that Robertson hasn't missed any games the last few years."

"So was it the money? The bone-on-bone? The idea that Robertson will be on the open market by June? Probably all of the above in a strange brew that finally appears to have squelched the trade -- for now."

Interesting little tid bit regarding the Jets and the draft. Adam Schein said on Jets nation that the Jets interviewed Brian Brohm for about 2 hours at his pro day, and Brohm felt they seemed very interested. Brohm rd 2?

It all comes down to this and they are screwed either way if they have to count on either to make the playoffs.

yep, i think pennington can get them 8 wins. clemens, i have no idea. their playoff chances lay on his arm.

however, if the jets get mcfadden, i think they will be a very dangerous team.

2 wins? We won 4 with a hell of a lot of holes and sub par talent at many key spots. So in your estimation adding Faneca, Woody, Jenkins, Pace, Richardson(made the pro bowl last yr so dont bring up age), and Franks have subtracted two losses from our potential. I love this offseason, we got aggressive and filled our wholes with guys who can play instead of JAG's like last year (Wadsworth, Haynes, Clarke:mad:).If you want to talk about the Pace deal go right ahead but the Faneca deal is a solid contract when everyone and there mother knows he wont see the final two years of that contract. jenkins got signed for 5 yrs at 30 mil with a 9 mil signing bonus. Granted he has never played in the 3-4 but we traded a 3rd and 5th rounder for a guy who has pro bowl ability, how is that a bad move? Many objectional Pats fans will see this as a successful offseason but there still are many ?'s such as Pace being Thomas 2.0, QB position, Jenkins in the 3-4 (IMO at worst he is an upgrade over Robertson and I think he can be a good player for many years). Woody's deal is a little bit much but its still not a cap killer. I think were an 8-8 ball club right now and I waiver from 7-9 to 10-6. Just my .02. I try not to be a homer but I dont know how were a worst team then last year, its really not even close when you look at the current state of our new and improved running game

the jets have screwed themselves in terms of the cap for the next 5 years. if it werent for the raiders, the jets would have the top 3 worst contracts of the offseason.

Faneca's deal is really on a 3yr deal b/c after year 3 the Jets will probably cut him and the cap hit will not be anything to write home about. Jenkins deal was 5 for 30 9 mil guaranteed which IMO is fair value. Im sure your referencing Pace and Woody's deal but I honestly do not know how Woody's 5 for 25 11 guaranteed will cripple the cap. I agree the Pace deal was over board however. I have Pace and Woody's deal as worst deals but factoring Faneca's skill and the way his deal is structured I think it can not be considered a terrible deal
