Pacman: Why not a 3rd pick for him?

The rumors are flying around that Dallas is probably only going to do a 4th for him. With the PATS history of turning players around (Dillon / Moss), why not give up a 3rd? This guy has obvious 1st round talent for a CB.
Yes, he's 10 times worst off the field then those 2 together (Dillon & Moss) but give him a 1 year contract with fine print all over it regarding his off the field (& on!) actions so he can easily be fired if necessary! I mean where else are we going to get a 1st talent like this for CB with a 3rd. I think it would be risky but CBs besides pass rushers are the toughest position to find. This of course should only be done if it can be 100% verified that the commish will reinstate him for next year before the draft.

Apparently the Titans are only really looking for a 4th round for him. There isn't much risk just as there wasn't much risk with Moss. If they are on a one year term where they are easy to relinquish if they act up then what is the real risk. I understand Goodell has added policy that could potentially punish teams for the off field actions of their own players so that would be the only slight risk. Surely Pacman realizes that one year of good behavior and a ProBowl caliber season and he will get a huge payday again from someone.

I'll admit, I have flipped-flopped on this issue now since in the past I called him a piece of sh*t & don't want him. But, with our growing list of mediocre CB free agents being signed, why not take a guarded risk for one year?!? As a football player , can anyone here show me (scouting, NFL coaches assessment, etc.) that he's not a possible very good CB? He would help bring the PATS defense to elite status...

Pacman will come back, play well, and after a few games, "make it rain" somewhere, resulting in another suspension, and putting his team behind the 8 ball for the remainder of the season....

The difference is that Pacman doesn't WANT to change. Unless they were threatening him, he would buy his own strip club and beat strippers all night long.

Dillon wanted to win.

Moss wanted to prove people wrong.

Pacman just wants to get paid and have a "posse".

I'd trade a 4th for him and a cap friendly restructure. Yes, his rap is much worse than Moss's before we got him, but to me it'd be the same deal. Worst case is he acts up, gets cut, and we lose a 4th rounder. Best case is a stud at a position in need. I'd absolutely go for it.

You don't know that. He's on a young team with no veteran leaders in a city that isn't suited for him. I think it would be a great situation for him here. He knows if he ****ed up he'd be done not only here, but everywhere. I don't think he would. He never had such veteran locker room leaders either. And lets be honest, the streets of Boston are probably easier for him to stay outta trouble then Memphis. JMO.

To see our CB situation and not want to give up a 4th for him is insane. A 4th rounder in reality has little chance of contributing. So you figure your taking that same roll with Pacman, except with promised talent.

Jones immediately solves one of the two largest 'problems' this team has on the field, leaving only linebacker as a current major question mark. If they can get Jones to sign a contract that's loaded with penalty clauses and the like, it's a gamble that I think is worth taking. They just need to make sure that they still pick cornerbacks later in the draft, to prepare for possible 'relapse'.

P.S. Two of those clauses had better be a 'no strip joint' clause and a curfew, both applying for the entirety of training camp and the football season.

P.P.S. I suspect that Mrs. Kraft has an opposing view on this.

I think the Patriots can absorb this guys ego and cancel it out with all that Superstar ( Brady, Moss and etc ) leadership. If the Pats give him a chance and he fails, then the Pats gave him a chance. If the relationship succeeds, then the Pat gave him a chance and were brilliant for doing so.

No, his drug dealer friend just wants his dumbass friend to make something with his talent. This is what I'm talking about, by bringing him here your taking him from Memphis which just isn't a good place for Pacman.

I don't disagree about any philosophy because there are none. Were you one of the same who didn't want Merriweather either because of his past? Or Moss? Dillon? I'm not saying lets sign every idiot in the NFL, but when your an idiot with talent why not try to turn it around? It never hurts. You sign a guy to a one year deal, if ANYTHING happens, you cut him with no losses for you and the end for him. I just don't feel insecure in that deal with the potential reward coming from it.
