Mr Belichick and Mr Kraft please take your heads out of the sand!

I think the Pats should continue to do what they are doing. What good would them speaking really do than to help fuel the fires of this story? Anything they say could also potentially open the door for Specter to get an investigation going.

The fact of the matter is that this really isn't a big story nationally. A decent segment of the media are against Specter on this one. The Pats speaking about it adds more legitimacy to the story.

Belichick and Kraft should just keep quite until the situation changes that it forces them to speak. Specter acting like Don Quixote chasing windmills isn't enough for them to do anything. I still think there will need to be a smoking gun for Patrick Leahy to launch an official Senate investigation or hearings. I don't think that smoking gun will be found.

Re: Belichick's silence is why Spygate continues

It's a league issue at this point.. What is Belichick supposed to say? He already said everything he needs to say about it. Anything else is going to be twisted around, mis-quoted, etc etc etc.

I like Belichick's approach. Short, to the point, facts only.

F that tool Specter. People need to stop freaking out over this. It's not that big of a deal.

Re: Belichick's silence is why Spygate continues

Exactly. The media only reports what they think people want to hear. No one wants to hear that the Patriots might not have gained much of a competitive advantage, and that this is all a big joke.

I like looking at Tobias Funkias' face:D anyone else feel the same way?

Re: Belichick's silence is why Spygate continues

This is unfortunately true. Spygate is a very big deal on internet football message boards. It's getting far less play in mainstream media or on the street.

Not sure I'm buying this argument. The lady next to me at work pulled up MSNBC yesterday and said "Uh Oh looks like your Pats are in big trouble!" She didn't read the article, she knows little to nothing about football, but could infer just from the headline that the Pats are cheaters and are going down. I think for me anyway that is where I sometimes do feel hysterical, trying to explain to someone who has just read a headline and thinks they know exactly what happened, what ACTUALLY happened. I cannot stand to see this team and this coach judged by people who just look at a headline and think they know everything, and unfortunately the Pats have seemed to have a new headline every few days.
And FWIW I don't want BB doing the sob tour, crying about how sorry he is and that everybody does it. I do fully expect a great book from BB after he retires, but I have loved the way he has led this team since he took over, I do not want to see him change now.

Re: Belichick's silence is why Spygate continues

If the NFL decided today to have the Patriots forfeit all their games to

the Steelers and Eagles since 2000, Arlen Specter would be happy to go

away. What he wants is a Superbowl win for the Eagles by forfeit.

First off...Congrats to the patriots on a great season despite losing the SB. Believe it or not, I was rooting for the patriots to win the SB mainly because of Junior Seau. I watched Junior bleed Charger blue for thirteen seasons, and since San Diego has been unable to get back to SB since the 94 season, I would of loved to of seen Junior cap off his career with at least one SB ring. With that being said, here is my two cents on the whole spygate controversy. I'm tired of hearing about it, okay maybe BB and the pats are the first team to get caught with their hands in the cookie jar, but I'm sure almost every other team has tried at one time or another to steal signals and play calling by video, lip readers, medicine man, and what ever else one can think of. The same thing also goes on in other sports. None of this would of caused the patriots to win one less SB, IMO. The more the issue is dragged along, the more it tarnishes the NFL in general. I vote to move on, forget about it, and just take the normal steps to be sure teams can not cheat in any way. Good Luck next season patriots, except when you play the Chargers. :)

People need to realize that and if it bothers them that much they need to GET OFF THE INTERNET for a while.

We have a new thread here every time some internet hack weights in and puts his spin on it. AND THAT INCLUDES THREAD STARTERS HERE!

I agree. If you watched Total Access or NFL Live last night, the big story was Zach Thomas getting cut. I don't even think they talked about Specter or Spygate at all. The only "news source" I see covering this with any zeal is ProFootballTalk.com. Not much a surprise there. ESPN has a new report on Specter from Mike Fish, but they didn't highlight it and only put it in the headlines section with all their other news.

First rule of holes. When you find yourself in one, stop digging.

The only thing keeping this situation alive is the influx of new sound bites. Having anyone from the Patriots say anything only keeps the whole ordeal alive for another news cycle.
High wisdom that is, Yoda.

What a dumb post this has gone past patriots long ago. Its now NFL vs Senator az.

If kraft and bb step out the NFL comes off as an idiot organisation.

Re: Belichick's silence is why Spygate continues

I am almost certain that Goodell has instructed everyone in the league to say nothing further about the issue, because it is league business and his responsibility. He's an attorney and he doesn't want the opposition to have any information that he has not vetted himself first. I think he's actually put himself in a tough position, but is being pretty honorable.

Once he was named commissioner, he brought down some harsh judgements on players. The punishment of the Patriots management was meant as a balance to that, as many have said, to show the new sheriff was in town and would not tolerate people defying the league office.

I think the public statements from Goodell have been pretty consistent and definitive. It happened, parties were disciplined, it's over. In the face of Specter's grandstanding, Goodell is going to be the voice of the league and take on the challenge directly himself. I don't expect anyone currently active in the leagie to say anything more than stipulate to the known facts and defer to the commissioner's office. You can call it a whitewash or coverup if you're inclined to conspiracy theories, but it's just good discipline and tactics.

Re: Belichick's silence is why Spygate continues

Really depends on the person's image. Whatever BB says will be spun around and portrayed -vely because thats how the media wants it and it sensationalizes the story.Had it been another coach with good PR then speaking may help.

Re: Belichick's silence is why Spygate continues

Uhhhhh

I believe he said his interpretation was the filming was OK since it wasn't used for that days game.

What exactly else needs to be said? Pretty simple. Should he committ Hari Kari?

BB will probably never do this. he'll stand on this little island for as long as he's forced to. I dont see BB exposing any other coaches ever. period. many people have no understanding of that kind of loyalty to his fellow coaches. certainly mangini never understood it.

Who would you rather share a foxhole with, BB or EM?
