Still only 52 names on the roster.
Too late to bring in any outsider ... even such an "insider" as Chad Brown.

So who is going to be honored
by promotion from the practice squad?

My money is still on Bam
... with Santonio the second choice.

I speculated on this a few days ago...noting that my first guess...Brown was not going to happen...obviously a PSquad player...although, I thought that they might keep it open in honor of the late Marquise Hill....(but also pointed out that the Yates rule would move Bam or Santonio into that spot or??) Not really sure...and it is intriguing....maybe only one of the few things..

36 hours and...I wonder when the Pats will add a player?? Later today...or??

Now THAT is an intriguing idea !

All kinds of emotional fervor in that.
Like Ray Lewis and his U-men before our game in Ballimor.
(No Missing Man formation, though.)

I can see that happening.

Keeping it open is inspiring indeed.

It's kind of petty, but it bothers me how much media attention went to Sean Taylor, yet there's been a "91" on the back of the Pats helmets all year and nary a tale of the loss of their friend and teamate.

There have been stories about Hill, this past week even.

I've been watching a lot of NFL network and haven't seen a thing. I think I saw one story on ESPN a couple of weeks ago and that was it. If the freaking Redskins were in the SB, you wouldn't be able to turn a TV on without seeing his face...

Regardless, it would still be inspiring to leave it open...

That is true. Taylor was a star, Marquis Hill was not. That's how the mediots look at it. To me he was a Patriot, who died Tragically. Should this have received more coverage? Sure. But it doesn't matter, his TEAMMATES have honored him all year, and they will continue to honor him tomorrow.

No, no, no. That wouldn't be good at all, because that would be a good emotional story for people to actually want to root for the Patriots and go against everything the national media wants. People are suppose to hate the Patriots and want them to lose so they can make up ridiculous stories about the "evil" genius and his plot to rule the world!

Why would we bother filling the 53rd spot? The player will be inactive. There is no point. I would imgine we have left it open in case, in the event something horrendous happened, i.e. a flu attacked the team and half a dozen players were so sick they couldnt play, or we had freak injuries in practice, we would activate a ps guy, straight to game day active, but as it is we are going to have 7 inactives, so why promote someone to the 53 man so they can be inactive on the sidelines?

Well...there IS the Yates rule...that basically says that aplayer in the 3rd year HAS to be promoted if there is an open spot....but I wonder if they left it open in memory of Hill whether anyone would say a thing.....
Still, it could be a PSqder that they wish to promote...it might be somone they wish to reward for all their help...Who was it in 04 that was promoted FOR that spot...Yates?? Did they not cut a safety they brought in...and promote him a day before the game?? I do believe the Pats will have to do that today...
But I totally agree that there has been no mention of Hill nationally. yes, he was a backup, but he also had been a member of the team for 3 years...and I really do find it a bit offensive that this has happened. But again..we are dealing with ESPN...Especially Stupid Pompous Nonsense,,,
I also want Patriot fans to NOT foget Darryl Stingley and Bucko Kilroy who also died this year...

They started this "season of unity" by attending Hill's wake as a group, where his mother told the team that HILL FORSAW A SUPERBOWL VICTORY before his death. They will end it by adding his name posthumously to the roster and I bet the the ring (presuming there is one) will be giving to Sherry Hill, his mother.

I cannot imagine a more touching gestures or what kind of motivation this will prove to be for the team.

I think it would be kind of fitting if they do.

If anyone's into meaningless tidbits of information... His number was 91... Reverse it and you get 19 ;)

I have said that for a few days...even before that Globe article...but I agree..it would be fitting...and GREAT! And that is true..they did do that as a team...full circle..let's see IF they have those same thoughts and do it!! In a few hours...I think they will have to announce any roster changes...so??? We will all know..great point in mentioning that!!

Did you write "The number 23"

And, yes, I would bet that Hill absolutely is awarded a posthumous ring.

There isn't really a need to fill the 53rd spot. It's not like they'd suit up for the game.

There might not be a football "need," but as I understand it every player on the 53 gets a Superbowl check from the league (winner share = $70k+). Why would the team deprive a hard-working multiyear practice squad guy of that reward?

I think you might THINK it means nothing...ask Billy Yates..I believe who was added a few years ago for a Super Bowl.....I DO think they will do something with the spot...whether to add a PSquader OR as I think all think..for the late Marquise Hill...
