Arlen Spector - Comcast's Man In Washington

It's obvious now that the Senator from Comcast is doing this strictly for their interest....let's see...shouldn't the officiating come into question?? THAT gambling is in the billions every year and there are legitimate questions about sertain games...the Colts this year..teh Super Bowl two years ago..many other incidents where officials MAY have influenced things. Shouldn't that be looked at? Other practices of teams should as well...from the piped in pseudo fans in Indy to the going around teh blackout period in QB communications. IF he was legitimately LOOKING INTO integrity in teh NFL, these issues would be on the table as well...but teh senator doesn't give a damn about that..it's all about Comcast....tiy know this country has the best poiliticians money can buy..another CLEAR example.. (but please don't get point to the Dems..the corporations OWN the Republicans..have for years...)

Re: Arlen Specter...Warren Commission...now he's worried about NFL?

Hey Arlen. Go "Bleep" yourself. Seeing your smug face makes me want to vomit. Now, you are interested in the NFL? After being in bed with Comcast.
There's a reason the term Philadelphia Lawyers became prominent. And, not in a complimentary way either. You Sir are the poster-boy for that!!

he also voted for Iraq, and for the Patriot Act...

how ironic...

Two months ago, Senator Comcast intervened to scuttle an FCC arbitration ruling between the NFL and Comcast:

http://www.multichannel.com/article/CA6504396.html

Specter’s letter indicated that the NFL had to clout to hold its own with the cable industry, noting that the NFL licensed its “Sunday Ticket” package to DirecTV for $700 but refused to let cable participate in the deal.

“The proposition that an enterprise with such vast market power needs the government to intervene on its behalf in business negotiations is simply untenable,” Specter said.

Specter also suggested that Martin’s intervention on behalf of the NFL Network would be inconsistent with Martin’s ongoing concerns about the upward spiral of cable rates.

“Your approach simply is not a recipe for lower cable prices or better programming or access,” Specter said. “I hope you agree that the marketplace is the better venue for resolving these disputes.”

This inquiry is a complete abuse of the Senator's power and should be exposed as such or stopped by New England's senior senator on the Judiciary Committee, Ted Kennedy. In addition, a bipartisan stand by Chris Dodd, John Kerry, Olympia Snow and others should put an end to it.

If the Patriots indeed complied with the Commissioners request and turned over all tapes and notes and did not destroy or conceal anything in the process, then the only outcome of this charade is further vindication and confirmation of Goodell's conclusion that they did not benefit from the taping and that it began in 2006.

If they did not and if Specter is able to go through with this travesty, then Patriots officials will face the choice of admitting such in public or perjuring themselves.

No!!!!

Any other pols wading into this quagmire would backfire badly.

Senator Comcast is doing a great job of hanging himself (and his corporate patron) all by himself.

Good article on Spector's motives

I hesitated to start another thread on this, but I thought this blog did a really good job of describing the dirtbag from PA:

http://large-regular.blogspot.com/2008/02/arlen-specter-is-creep-arlen-specters.html

What motive would Arlen Specter have to smear the NFL this way? Well if you consider that his second largest campaign contributor was Comcast - the same Comcast who has been in a very public dispute with the NFL over the carrying and cost of the NFL Network - then I think you would have the potential motive. Arlen Specter is giving the appearance of being nothing more than an attack dog for a corporation who gives him big monetary rewards. "Poke the NFL with a stick Arlen. That's a good boy. Here's a wad of crisp twenties as a Scooby snack."

Title of thread should read: Arlen Sphyncter - Comcast's Man in Washington - what an a**hole this guy is. Soldiers are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan, gas is $3.00 a gallon and the US Senate has nothing better to do than worry about tapes of a football game?
Thank you. This BS won't have any life in the next couple of weeks.Come on Pats, kick some Giant A** tommorow.

Re: Good article on Spector's motives

Ding Ding Ding!

You hit the nail on the head!

Gotta love this country! This is the way business is done. No shame whatsoever.

Re: Good article on Spector's motives

Is there a term for impeaching a senator? Is it "impeach"? Mobilize the forces! Let's see if Mr. Specter would like everyone peeking into every move he has made.

That's why this is so ridiculous. This is a PRIVATE company. And get out of here with that anti-trust crap. If the anti-trust meant anything, how did the XFL come into existence.

Maybe Mr. Specter would be interested to know that yesterday, at the private company I work for, I shredded a bunch of invoices. They didn't mean anything and they were from 6 months ago that we had already paid for. They were fully logged and reported on, so we didn't need them anymore. But maybe I can get the shredded paper, and a box of scotch tape at BJs and he can start piecing this great conspiracy to destroy documents.

Toolbag.

Re: Good article on Spector's motives

Impeach comcast.

/direct tv or Dish

That's awfully thin. Spector's a U.S. Senator. He can look into revoking the NFL's anti-trust exemption if the mood strikes him - he doesn't need an excuse. Hell, Senator Kerry threatened to look into it because the NFL initially balked at moving the Pats/Giants game from the NFL Network.

Not the point. He is bringing this up for a reason. We know it's not out of principle.

How is this motherf----- not too ashamed to be so brazen about his corruption? I f-ing hate this man.

Re: Good article on Spector's motives

Here's another writer who sees through this transparent senator:

http://www.punditreview.com/2008/02/01/arlen-specter-bought-and-paid-for-by-comcast/

Some excerpts:

This isn’t just another shameless pol looking for free pub. This isn’t about a bitter Philadelphia Eagles fan still smarting over the Pats Superbowl vistory a couple years back. No, this is all about the NFL’s battle with the cable companies over the NFL Network. Specter chose today, the day of the NFL Commissioner’s annual state of the league press conference. That is no coincidence. ... It’s not often that a Washington politician is so brazen in their efforts to do the bidding of special interests ... Does he really think people will believe this is about spygate?

Re: Good article on Spector's motives

Perhaps the best line comes from patriotsdaily.com,.....

>>>>Let me get this straight. Sen. Arlen Specter, architect of the Single Bullet Theory, is insinuating that a hurried investigation has ended with more questions than answers, and a wounded public now ever skeptical of their leaders. He would know, I guess.>>>>>>>

That about sums it up......

Edit- for those too young to remember, Specter was a member of the Warren Commission that investigated the assassination of President Kennedy. It was Specter's conclusion that a single bullet struck President Kennedy in the throat and passed through Texas governor John Connolly's chest and wrist and emerged nearly undistorted. If there were more than one bullet, it would have required there to have been a second gunman and a conspiracy, meaning that Lee Harvey Oswald would not have acted alone.

Guess if you're a Republican President, Specter's ok with questionable "intelligence gathering"

http://glenngreenwald.blogspot.com/2006/06/new-low-senate-seeks-to-pardon.html

No.... it all goes back to ComCast which, IIRC is headquartered in the Senator's District. In cases such as these it is always best to follow the money trail. In fact, I'd bet that an examination of donations to the Senator's campaign coffers would reveal a substantial one from ComCast.

Just sayin'.......
