With all the fans, players, and coaches who have talked bad about the Patriots over the last couple years, and with the off the field problems this year, does it seem that we are now rooting for a team simular to the one we all hated 12 years ago? Substance abuse suspentions, woman abuse allegations, and a dynasty football team.

I had a puppy once. Its name was Joey. He was brown.

Sometimes, I like Chocolate Milk. Not all the time...but sometimes.

I Seriously Think That We're Better!!!!!!

I think the current Chargers team resembles the 90s Cowboys more, except for the fact that the Chargers haven't won a Superbowl. Like them, we're primarily a rushing team with a great running back; they had Emmitt Smith, we have LaDainian Tomlinson, and both teams featured great offensive lines. The Cowboys could also throw the ball with Troy Aikman and his primary target Michael Irvin. The Chargers have Philip Rivers and Chris Chambers, Vincent Jackson, and Antonio Gates. On defense, they had Deion Sanders and we have Antonio Cromartie.

Philip Rivers is actually better than Troy Aikman at this point in his career. Don't look at the Superbowls, just the stats. Troy Aikman was a game manager for the most part because their offense relied heavily on the running game. Here's a comparison of Philip Rivers and Troy Aikman's stats for their first two season's starting:

Their first season starting:

Troy Aikman:

passing yards: 1749
passing tds: 9
interceptions: 18
completion percentage: 52.9%
rating: 55.7

Philip Rivers:

passing yards: 3388
passing tds: 22
interceptions: 9
completion percentage: 61.7%
rating: 92.0

Their second season starting:

Troy Aikman:

passing yards: 2579
passing tds: 11
interceptions: 18
completion percentage: 56.6%
rating: 66.6

Philip Rivers:

passing yards: 3152
passing tds: 21
interceptions: 15
completion percentage: 60.2%
rating: 82.4

The most yards that Troy Aikman ever got in a single season was 3445 and the most touchdowns he ever got in a single season was 23, both of which Philip Rivers almost got in his first season alone. Troy Aikman was not as great a quarterback as some current fans make him out to be. Even his championships can be attributed to the talent around him more than his own abilities.

What substance abuse problems? If you're referring to Harrison and HGH that's ludicrous. You make it sound as if he was shooting heroin.

It's also worth noting that to my knowledge, the only Pats player ever arrested during BB's tenure was Jonathan Sullivan, and I'm not even sure he was signed at the time of that arrest. At any rate, he didn't last long.

There is no other team in the league who can claim they haven't had at least one player arrested in the last eight years. Not one.

Meanwhile Dallas players of that era were getting arrested every other week. There is no comparison IMO.

Kenyatta Jones. He had been on the team for the SB in 2001 but was quickly cut after his arrest in 2003.

Yeah, that's just a minor difference.

Actually, he''s right. And they ran the exact same offense and Norv Turner was the offensive coordinator. What does tht mean?
Good thing that these Pats weren't around for the Cowboys or they never would've won a SuperBowl!
Oh please don't compare Cromartie too Deion Sanders, one of the 5 best DBs ever, lest I vomit in my mouth. That and he wasn't aCowboy very long.
Other than that, spot on.

How the hell do these things multiply sometimes, wtf!?
Anyway, no one compares, and heres why.
The "substance abuse". One guy taking HGH omce to come back from an injury in NO way compares to the reports of half the Cowboys hanging out at a druglords house in Arlington and getting messed up. And, for crissakes, the ENTIRE 70s Steeler's o line was on enough juice to supply the WWE for a decade. Have you seen pictures of Corey Webster??
The cowboys had a "system", Norv Turners system, of run, run , run and pass off the playaction. Control the game with solid Defense.
The Pats system? Well, that would depend on who is on the team.
2001, dink and dunk, rely on the running game, don't make mistakes, wait for the other team to make a mistake and cash in with special teams or the oppurtunistic D.
2003, pass every other down, methodically marching down the field. Suffocating D that only allowed 14 points per game, and just don't make a mistake.
2004, get behind the running game, first time Pats were able too truly use the playaction with athority cause it's the first time they have had a GREAT running game, D not quite as good as the year before but still more than good enough too hold teams down.
I don't think I need to get into this year. And just the fact that Jerry Jones isn't the owner who thinks that's he's the reason who makes the team win and run away the genius head coach(that was the nineties Kraft, thank god the Pete Carroll thing woke him up).
So to sum up, No.

You need to clarify this, and do some more research on all of the issues..

Quite simply to compare this team and the distractions that happened 12 years ago, is like comparing raisins and grapefruit.. there is none.

I've posted on this before, but:

Of course we're that team "we all hated." Join the club.

Whatever vices are floating around in the NFL, the best team does some of it. Whatever the best team does, gets magnified. If you're the reigning dynasty, whatever your team does gets magnified by orders of magnitude. Just take any clown's opinion and throw -gate after it. That's life, once you hit a certain altitude. Just like Dallas: they built 'em up, and loved to watch 'em fall. The difference is, the Pats just don't buy any of it.

All you Chargers fans that are still around, take note, just in case you can make use of this observation in the future (I doubt it.)

By the way, being "just like the Cowboys only with no super bowls?" Have you any idea how comical that is?

The sine qua non of the dynasty discussions is super bowls. You don't get to play.

Kind of reminds me of "act like you've been there before." The Chargers seem to actually believe they have "arrived." Uh, guys, win something, then try it.

Only problem is that you are ignoring that Aikman started as a rookie, while Rivers road the pine for 2 years watching his better play. also, Jimmy Johnson was losing all those game on purpose to get the number one pick and was benching his best players (all those great guys he got for Walker) because if none of them started there was a stipulation in the trade that sent Dallas ALL of the Vikings draft picks that following draft!
So numbers do lie, and you obviously don't know crap about the Cowboys or are ignoring it.
Also "at this point in there careers" aikman would have been in his 4th year and have a ring and
Phillip Rivers would have had that Craptacular season we all just witnessed, but I will give him respect for how he played in the end of the year.
So again, at same point in career, 1 ring to none.
