Favre in news conferece: "Why did you waste your time coming down here?"

He says he hasn't made up his mind yet. This news conference is just to thank sponsors of his golf tourney.

No, he really said that.

First Question was "Has there been any change in your status of deciding your future?"

Favre answered "I don't know why you wasted your time coming down here. Nothing has changed. When I know, you'll know."

What a tool this guy has become. He's holding out for the last adulation he can get because he knows once football is over, he's done.

You would think GB would just say "enough is enough". Would the fan base be that upset if they said they were going to go with Rodgers to begin building for the future?

I used to respect him as a player.

What he's doing the past few months is reprehensible and demeans him in my eyes as a human being.

He is simply indecent. I can't imagine how those loyal Green Bay fans feel being toyed with like that after lionizing him for 13 years.

He really needs to just go away.

Brett Favre was one of my most favorite players in the NFL, but seems he has had a few too many brews down there in Kill. He should have just bowed out with grace.

I agree - and I don't know what's more pathetic... What Favre is doing or how willing GB seems to be to put up with it.

I said it last year and I'll say it again: Favre had a quote from training camp that said (paraphrasing) "I am not going to help Aaron Rodgers get ready because that is not my responsibility to do." ANY OTHER QB in the NFL would have been LAMBASTED for that remark, but the media just spent a few weeks fawning over Favre and how gutsy he is to be so focused on his job.

Honestly, what a jerk......I know BB has been getting flack lately for not being sentimental about his players, but take a lesson people, THIS is what happens when you are TOO sentimental with your former heroes!!

What a clown. Any word on GB fan reaction? Or is it too early?

From his comment last year that (I'm paraphrasing) "it's not my job to teach
Radgers how to be a QB" it seemed like he saw the inevitable end of his career down the road and he didn't like the way it looked. He's doing everything he can to hold on to the power/prestige/glory but the time is approaching fast when he can either walk away on his own or GB will do it for him. He may be an icon BUT there are appropariate ways to exit stage left.
He's never going to walk away a winner like Elway, Bill Russell or Bettis but it's better to be remembered for your accomplishments than as a shell of your former self. Willie Mays comes to mind (for those of us old enough to remember) as superstar, though in another sport who played a few seasons too long and it was pitiful compared to his prime.
"Uh , Brett we know you're a legend here but after 5 ints..today....in the first half...we're going with Rodgers...."
If the Packers don't address it soon, it could get ugly especially if they want to get Roodgers game experience and Favre doesn't see the light....

"No change. I don't know, once again," he said at a brief news conference Saturday from the site of his charity golf tournament. "I don't know why you guys wasted a trip down here. The Packers and I will make a decision at some point soon."

The 36-year-old Favre -- whose grit, durability and cannon arm have become his trademark -- is the NFL's only three-time MVP (1995-97).

"I know people are getting impatient," he said. "But enjoy baseball right now."

I'll put it this way: Favre gave GB fans all the magic they've had since Bart Starr, or has at least been central to it. And GB, bless their hearts, do not work on the same model the Pats do. Favre is the slowly deteriorating "good" face of the Great Man Theory of History - he played that role for GB for a decade and a half, and now he's nowhere near worth the hassle.

The most instructive part of all this is how the humble, always forbearing Favre can deteriorate into a media magnet/team distraction as easily as the bombastic Owens - both to the detriment of their own teams.

From a NE perspective it's ludicrous. Could you see Kraft/Belichick hearing for 3 years or so about how Brady "might" retire, without moving to cement the next phase of NE's future?

Favre is a guy who's endured personal tragedy on a pretty big scale, and his mindset seems to have moved "beyond" football. But he just can't bring himself to give the game up, and we get to see his indecisiveness on NFL network on a weekly basis. It's sad. You remember that Monday night game he had after his father died? I'm not a Green Bay fan, but I had tears in my eyes. That should have been his grand farewell. But football is all that keeps this guy from fully facing how "real" life's gotten - hence the melodrama.

I actually feel for the guy, I really do... but sentiment is out of place in roster decisions, and it's past time that GB make one - a painful one. Sad but true.

I just don't understand GB's logic for the life of me. They don't exactly need Favre to generate ticket sales. If they were 12-4 last year and looking at this year as a serious run at a title, then I can understand putting up with all this nonsense. But they limped to 4-12 and have to go through a rebuilding process. It is infinitely better to get the new QB under center as soon as possible for long term success.

Dave Kreiger, writing in the Denver Post this morning, suggests to Milke Shanahan that they (the Broncos) engineer a trade for Favre.

His suggestion? Trade Jake Plummer and their 2 first-round picks for Favre and Green Bay's first pick at #5, and then select Cutler, if he's still available there!

Gawd, I sure hope Denver pulls the trigger on something like this!

1) Wishing instead of planning
2) Figuring their task right not isn't winning so much as maximum enhancement of the Favre name....
3) Emotional attachment and support of Favre. Personnel Management as therapy.
