Finally making my first trip to Foxboro from England for the Jets and the Fins games. Staying in Boston and going with a mate to the Jets game before the family joins me for the Fins game.

Any advice for Boston, particularly any bars for after the game Sunday night (staying in Back Bay), and then any things to do/see with family at this time of year. My boy is 4 so something he will enjoy.

Thanks to a great season ticket holder there who is a friend of the UK Patriots we will be tailgating before both games I hope. Not sure how the wife and son will go for that long in the cold though.

If you see anyone with a UK flag before or during the game come and say hi :)

Here's to 2 more wins...

Good afternoon Harry, nice to see you on here too!

Like Harry i'll also be attending the game on Sunday :)

As long as you're not screwing kids out of vaccinations like you did in Vienna, Harry, we'll be cool. ;)

The Third Man is awesome! :D

For a four-year old, the Boston Children's Museum on the waterfront is a fun place, as is the Museum of Science up near Lechmere. Both are very interactive and keep the little ones busy.

In Back Bay itself, I think you might enjoy Crossroads (aka Bradigans) at 495 Beacon Street. The Fenway Area (just a little West of Back Bay) has lots of decent pubs, particularly the Cask'n Flagon. Some upscale places can be found on Newberry Street, and with exchange rate being what it is you'll have no trouble buying rounds for all.

Be prepared for snow and sleet. It looks like there may be a big storm coming through Saturday night and Sunday.

not sure how old you are...im in college in boston so ive been exploring the bar/pub scene alot since moving into the city itself (i grew up just outside)...

Definitely checkout the pubs/bars in/around fenway and Fanual Hall...if you have kids maybe checkout the aquarium...museum of fine arts bores me (maybe ill appreciate later in life)....Science museum is wicked cool too even as an adult....

You will definitely need to try out some good seafood places you should try as well..legal seafoods (theres a bunch scattered around town i think) or if you want ot go a little cheaper try the barking crab....

i dont have much money so i couldnt tell you about nice resturants but thats kinda my low-down on the town.... hope that helps...

Thanks for that Tony and notex..much appreciated

As i'm only 17, is there any kind of pub or sportsbar that i can get into to watch the games after the Jets/Patriots?

I don't know how strict the law is in America, are under 21s allowed into bars but just aren't allowed to drink?

Where could i go to view the later games?

Marshy,

Certain restaurants (Legal Seafood?) will have the games on. There are also some pub/restaurants that will let you in to purchase food and you could likely find a table near the bar area to keep track of the action. Depending on the management, you might even get away with entering that bar area in some places as long as you don't try to order drinks.

There's always the Children's Museum if that doesn't work out!;)

That was below the belt Tony! I'm nearly legal to drink in England as the age is 18, and i can get served in most places anyway ;)

Are there no specific sports bars or anywhere i'd be able to get into to relax and watch the game, or would i be stuck in the family restaurants?

Sorry, I couldn't resist the dig.

As far as specific places, you might try Champions at the Copley Square Marriott (110 Huntington Avenue). It's not a hardcore pub but its not really a family restaurant either, and with 32 small screens and 2 large, there's plenty of viewing.

Here's an article that describes what it's like here for someone in your situation. Brookline is right next to (enveloped by) Boston.

Definately take a walk through Boston Common and enjoy the beautiful Christmas lights at night. You'll be able to see our state house and a few other nice points of interest like the 2 famous cemetaries nearby (do this in daylight). One of them is where Paul Revere was laid to rest...you ever hear of him?;)

Thanks Tony, much appreciated.

Just a couple of other questions, what time should we intend to be at the stadium if we want to look round the tailgating, pro-shop etc?

And we have standing tickets, what time should we move out to get our place, and where is the best area to go?

Thanks everyone!

I'm sure you'll have the trip of a lifetime - see you at the game Harry!

As far as having fun with your little one, bring lots of film or discs for your camera, you'll be needing it! I love taking the kids to Boston for weekend trips, we always have a good time. Some of our favorites are: Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market, the aquarium and walking the Freedom Trail.

Here are a couple links that will help you make plans.

Here's a tip for ya... avoid Lansdowne St. on Sunday nights.

Bars : Fanuel Hall , Fenway area , Boylston St

Clubs : Theater district , downtown

Things to do with family : Duck tour , Walking trip to the north end (Italian sector, excellent restaurants / pastry there)

Museum of fine arts , Aquarium, Walking trip through Beacon hill, the commons , city park and down on to Newbury street.

Notable places to check out on foot ( weather permitting)

Beacon hill ( Check out Louis burg square and Charles street) Most exclusive neighborhood in Boston. Shops on Charles street , along with great eats. High end type of dining. Try the upper crust for a low key meal in the area (great pizza) Start at the statehouse and work your way down.

Newbury street ( high end shopping , tons of restaurants , trendy area) Try Croma. Great food / atmosphere.

Fenway Park ( the mecca)

Copley place

Boston Commons / City Park ( Beautiful at night) Try to do some ice skating on frog pond

Fanuel Hall ( get there before 8 pm because shops close early)

North End ( Hanover street. Best food and pastry in the city. Get a feel for Bostons version of "little Italy") Stop by Mikes Pastry (world famous). Imo Modern has the best pastry in the city.

You picked a hell of a time to come. Cold and snow expected!

I wouldn't do the walking tours this weekend as it's going to be typical New England weather. (i.e.- snow, rain, slush). Bring some warm clothes...and maybe some snow shoes.

But like Mark Twain said, "If you don't like the weather in New England, wait"

If there's a snowstorm......don't rent a car.

Take train from Back Bay to South Station and take

Patriots shuttle to the stadium.

Much better than driving in bad weather.

(p.s.if you're bringing the Union Jack, stay away from
the end zone where the Minutemen with the flintlocks are!......lol)

Stay away from the Danny88 "Maroney Appreciation Shrine"...heard it's a total rip-off

Wow, that was not funny at all. Good job "joker". I can tell why you would have the screen name you do!
