2023 NFL Combine Thread

Keion White looks like he might be a beast, maybe Tui also. Jack Cambell looks like an Urlacher, Henley, Dorian and Pappoe could be good in later rounds. Some good DT's if they slip: Benton, Bryon Young, Kobie Turner, all 3 have good tape, Redmond looks good too as a late DT. J'ayir and Sydney brown look like warriors too. Man, a lot of good athletes this year, hope we ace this draft. I'd still pick Addison or Njigba first though. Gonna suffer on WR otherwise.

Andre carter 11 reps
Pappoe 29 reps lol
Carter almost gets a pass bc believe it or not that strength & conditioning program was bad. I hate saying it but the guy lacks so much strength both upper and lower its hard to properly eval him. He needs a lot of work against run particularly bc hes so light. I know a few scouts have expressed concerns though.

Pappy is a beast no surprise there.

Personally I believe training technology, general knowledge and availability of pre combine training is leading to just a more perfected craft of these skills/athletic test by a much larger number of invites. Now days prospects start training for the combine years before they commit to the draft, not just the several months leading up to It. Its probably more important than ever to truly do your due diligence on a players actual game/field speed.
Khalil Mack went to a well known pre-combine trainer to bump up his times for the combine. The trainer screwed things up and his times ballooned. Trainer was using a one-size fits all technique. Mack went from 4.6 to 5.0 under that trainer. Had only 2 weeks before the combine, so he went back to his personal trainer and in only that short time, got his times back down to 4.6.

I think that's how arbitrary all this is. I only know this story because I was in the training center when he showed up in mid-February, and a couple weeks later I talked to his trainer about it.

I also saw a Buffalo Sabre coming off of injury, and he couldn't do basic things, like balancing on one foot on a foam triangle and bending over to put down a barbell without losing balance. Everyone in that gym could do it except him. Shows you how much people fall off when they get injured and all the work they need to do to get back. Performance is so variable even for high level athletes. You see this in soccer all the time. You see players in training moving fast, cutting, looking good, but the coach pronounces them not fit enough. And then they get on the field and the announcers are like, "He's not in form."

Agreed. High level professional sports are very tough. And in the last quarter of the season, almost everyone is dealing with some sort of pain or ailment which makes it even tougher.

Tank Dell on tape seems elusive just teach him to go down like the greatest show on turf Ram WR's before contact 10 year career in the making right there.
Was just gonna post this. Dell knows when to get down and knows how to elude big hits. Not worried about his weight. If we draft OT, or DB at 14, I hope we grab a WR at 46.

Thanks. Sauce Gardner ran a 4.41sec 40 at 6'3" tall. Gonzalez, 4.38 sec, looks good, but I cant find Witherspoon (injured?), and Smith and Porter are surely not blazing fast at 4.45 and 4.47 sec.
It's quibbling though between 4.41 and 4.47. You have to have the hips and tracking ability to play... speed is not the difference between good CB play. So when you see someone like Jakorian Bennett blazing or DJ Turner, it's a little suspect to elevate them over guys with better tape like Witherspoon or Porter.

I agree about Gonzalez; he has the speed and the tape and the height and strength.

Porter is a big CB as well, with super long arms. Julius Brents is huge for a CB. Witherspoon is the only one who is slight.

If Quentin Johnston runs a 4.4, we're going to have to stay at #14, because one of Johnston, Gonzalez, Witherspoon or Porter will be there, and you don't get a chance at players like these lower in the draft.

If those 4 players are gone, it will only mean that one of the top edge rushers dropped.

slow 40 times wr, unofficial, Addison 455/449, dell 450, boute 450, Zey 442. timer is usually slow , Hyatt 441, downs 448, Iosivas 443
Max duggan 452 !

I agree but quibbling is the wrong word - too dismissive. Do you think if Davante Parker was a bit faster that he would be a completely different guy? Parker ran a 4.45 sec 40, what if he was a 4.41 guy like Sauce?

Bennett and Turner do not have the tape I agree. Look at Tariq Woolen from the 2022 draft. Tariq is fast but dropped to the 5th round due to the lack of tape. Fast quick guys can sometimes develop technique. Slower guys with great technique can only get slower. We need a #1 corner and now it appears as though Gonzalez will be gone by #14, most likely a 2nd or 3rd CB too. If Witherspoon runs well at his Pro Day, he will be gone by #14. Is Brents a #14 pick? Is Porter? Banks? Smith?

My point is that after Witherspoon, Gonzalez, and possibly Porter, it is too risky to pick a CB at #14 - there is not the combination of tape and athleticism to justify #14. Back to OT.

Oh I agree with the top guys you mentioned. I'm not reaching for a CB just because he's fast. That's what I was trying to emphasize.

I do think though that there are so many premium players at the top that one of them will be available for us at key positions. Trading down leaves me feeling cold, unless someone wants QB Richardson and is willing to wildly overpay.

I agree. I hope a stud is there at #14. Might be a LB though :p.

Yes, the QB Richardson "overpay" trade is another hope of mine. That 2022 trade with Carolina for a 3rd this year worked out well.

Drafting Njigba also lets Meyers walk, let him get paid big, and we get a Comp. Pick.

Only get a Comp pick IF they don't sign someone that off-sets it. And they are very likely to sign an OT that will more than off-set it.
