Pre-Free Agency 2023

Spielberger’s article with contract projections for the top 100 free agents. Here are the Patriots players, and you can all look up your external targets too.

7. WR Jakobi Meyers: Four years, $64 million ($16M per year); $40 million total guaranteed

31. CB Jonathan Jones: Two years, $11 million ($5.5M per year); $7 million total guaranteed

56. OT Isaiah Wynn: Two years, $21 million ($10.5M per year); $13.75 million total guaranteed

94. S Devin McCourty: One year, $8 million; $7 million total guaranteed

Seems low for Jones. At that point, the Patriots should just bring him back and worry about where he’s actually playing later (outside, slot, and FS all valid options). I do agree that somebody is going to pay Wynn decent money due to the scarcity of tackles.

Using that as a reference guide:

- Meyers - go get your money, he earned a nice payday but he’s not worth that.
- Jones - sign me up yesterday
- Wynn - don’t let the door hit you on the way out
- McCourty - I don’t have any doubt the Pats have a deal on the table for a comparable amount, just a matter of if he wants to play or not.

Definitely want to keep Jones. Probably Jakobi, the other two, NO.

PFF is too much.

Jamel Dean getting paid $17 Per year? The GM that signs him to that should immediately be fired.

Ditto to the GM that signs Meyers to $16M per year.

Jesse Bates might be too much at $15 per year.

SF will let McGlinchey walk who has been a disappointment. Watching many games with my SF 49er friend, he was always good for drive killing penalties and occasional whiffs.

LaVante David would be on my wish list, but he'll probably want to go to a contender on a short deal.

Jon Jones probably returns as he'll only be offered slot CB money.

i'd keep Jakobi...

would rather spend the remaining monies on beefing up our trenches, and/or add an edge

Jakobi in a functioning offense is a 100 catch per year WR.

That's worth $15m in today's NFL.

Christian Kirk is at $21m per year right now.

Christian Kirk runs a 4.5 40.

That's Jakobi speed.

That's just too much for Jakobi Meyers. If he had any speed at all, maybe you could justify it. If someone wants to pay him that much, I wish him the best of luck elsewhere.

BB heading to the negotiation table if 2 x 5.5 is all it takes for JJ…

Kirk is way better and more consistent sorry...Meyers is not worth $15 Mill BB the GM will not give him that.

Also 25 TD's to 8 to date C'mon dude Kirk > Meyers.

$21m is more than $15m the last time I checked.

But in Kirk's first 4 years, he caught 236 balls, Jakobi caught 235. Both average 12 ypc. Jakobi's catch rate to target is 68% to Kirk's 65%.

When you say way better and more consistent, the stats don't show that. Jakobi has the same athleticism and stats as Kirk, and Kirk gets paid $21m per.

I see Rookies in this upcoming Draft who have more upside than Meyers and will be better and cheaper.

Cousin, A better option might be Paris Campbell FA from the Colts. He , like Thomas had his own personalized "tub" in Indy. He was always hurt, but the last six games of this 2022 season he got healthy and caught fire,
He has 3.31 40 and over a 40 vertical, He had better numbers than Terry McLaurin at Ohio State. He is not a small WR either.
Brings us more speed and maybe relatively cheap because of past injuries.
Colts have enough money to resign him though.

He is the type wide out Mac had at Alabama.

Now if we could give him another second and a half protection..............

Greg Bedard stole my thunder.. lol I've been mentioning on here... we need a lock down corner... that just like on offense would allow everyone to play in thier respective positions, we should be all in on Ramsey.. that move makes all the sense in the world..

On offense Hopkins or juedy would do wonders for this offense..
That article is Sept. 2022. We talked a lot about Smith's restructuring on this Board when it happened.
Thank you, I totally forgot about that. It was early in the season. That certainly means smith will be here. Hopefully o'Brien can get something out of him.. he's to talented a player to be a part time contributing TE

What Myers has is the ability to run routes and get open.. he has amazing hands.. it's nice to have elite speed and athletic ability like say Hardman, but he can't get open and route run.. Myers can. He's a guy thay came up in the system I see his value here in NE rather than any place else.. I can see a 3y/24 million deal for Myers

I would pay up to 4/50, if it's going to be more than that, good luck elsewhere. 3/24 would be an absolute bargain.

I am not an expert on Xs and Os, however, Duggar sure seems like a prototypical SS. Rodney Harrison/Troy Polamalu type (not comparing him to those players, just the role)... strong in run support/covers TEs / lines up closer to line of scrimmage. I view Phillips and Peppers to be closer to this role as well with Peppers acting more as Hybrid LB/S.

BB doesn't typically like to move players in to positions that aren't their strength (weakening two positions). Again, I am no expert but, but it seems like a direct FS replacement is needed.
Bledsoe is in the mix as well. They really like him. If Peppers resigns I think the 4 safeties are set.

Yeah I went with the bargain, because the patriots know his value is higher here than any where esle.. so the 3/24 is what he's likely going to be offered.. Unless another team sees him differently.. that's typically how the patriots do business with thier own players unfortunately.. Edelman was humbled when we was a free agent finding out he was more valuable here than elsewhere..

I'm not so sure, I'd really like to see a true deep free safety. Those guys are excellent in their roles, but none of them are rangey, cover guys.

Agreed! We have an excellent mix of safeties.. If we can somehow pry Ramsey in here this defense goes from good to great!
