Callendar from BC

I have been watching the Eagles lately, and Andre Callendar reminds me a lot of Kevin Faulk.

He can run the ball decently, but he is also a primary receiver. He can also block very well.

I don't know what he is on people big boards, but I haven't seen his name pop up. I wouldn't mind snagging him in the 4-5th round. He would be nice to replace Faulk when he decides to retire.

Running backs like Andre Callender are a dime a dozen in the college ranks. Remember Faulk was a 2nd round pick and was considered to be a potential workhorse when he was first drafted; Callender is just an average college running back. If you really want him, he'll be available as a UDFA.

Unless the Patriots trade back, Tribble won't be a value pick in the top 5, and he definitely won't be available at the end of the 2nd. If they trade back and pick up a pick in the 20's, then yes, value pick and a good player; I don't think that happens, though.

I like the safety Jamie Silva. Big time hitter, 5'11", 210 and is a SR.

Very slow and benefits tremendously from Tribble's coverage skills. Late 2nd day pick, probably a career special teamer if that.

By the way, I'd be extremely happy if by trading back to the Cowboys two picks we could pick up James Laurinaitis and DeJuan Tribble... get Marion Barber on top of that, and I'll throw the party.

i didnt mean with our first pick. He'll be an early 2nd ..maybe even late 1st depending how he tests

I went to BC and still follow the team religiously, we DO NOT want DeJuan Tribble. People assume he is a "ballhawk" because he had 10 or so picks last year and 3 in the first game this year. HE IS NOT!!!!!! He continually attempts to jump routes and gets beat more often than he makes the interception. Also, he does not the speed to recovery after making a break on the ball. Furthermore, he is mediocre in run support and teams target his side of the field via gthe ground game. Think Will Blackmon with far less speed and game breaking ability and he is no one for Green Bay. There is no way BB and Pioli will be fooled by this guy and I pity the team that selects him in the top 2 rounds.

Callendar is probably a second day talent. Low risk 5th or 6th rounder that has the potential to surprise because of his pass catching skills.

thats weird because all ive heard is how teams stay away from him and that hes like Antoine Winfield against run

Well you must not watch too many games. Repeating insight from some "draft expert site" does not necessarily mean it is fact. I have nothing against Dejaun, but he is not the corner many of these sites is leading everyone to beleive. The best kid on that defense is Mark Herzlich 6'4" 238# LB. He is only a sophmore, but I imagine we will be talking about him next year over the likes of even Raji (DT suspended this year due to acacdemics) and Toal. Back to Dejaun...his play against the run is greatly aided by Silva especially, but also Peterson. Both suspect in coverage, but 2 of the top reasons why BC is #2 in the nation against the run.

Getting back to Silva. Not being sacastic, but if Silva is slow, why does he return punts? Or do I have the wrong guy?

Take the comments you read on this site with a grain of salt. There are no Patsfans.com members who are draft experts. It appears Primetime believes he is an expert, but his opinion is no more valuable than yours or anyone elses.

Most self-proclaimed experts on this site are just that.

The fact that Primetime took it upon himself to evaulate/criticize comments as if his word was that of an expert gives us a lot of insight into his over-inflated ego. I advise you to read his comments as you would any other members.

Yea, I see a lot of discrepancies. I did look up Silvas 40 and he did look a tad slow, on the other hand he did have 5 picks, and unless I have the wrong guy, returns punts. He's projected to be a third round pick. So, he might be ok, or he might be fair and protected by the corner who might be really good or really bad. I'll wait to hear what Mel has to say.

Right, no one here knows anything about football. Except you, of course. Forget sebman, whose talent evaluations over the past couple years have been better than many of the so-called experts, or other people who are supposedly in the know... we know nothing.

Or I go to BC and watch every game (most with significantly better seats than the "experts"). But take that for what it's worth. My opinion of Tribble differs from harveyw's. If he reminds me of anyone, it's our own Asante Samuel. A suspect tackler who jumps routes and picks off a lot of balls. Obviously not as developed as Asante, but I can easily see him as a top 5-10 cover guy. Probably never a true shut down guy, but I'll also say his bust potential isn't as high as a guy like Jenkins who is rated much higher than him. At worst he'll be a marginal NFL starter, at best he'll be a perennial Pro-Bowler.

Callendar is, as I said, a dime a dozen college runner. He has good hands and breakaway speed, but there are running backs who were workhorses in college with similar skills who have higher pro ceilings. Better, more productive BC running backs have gone undrafted (Derrick Knight) or been complete NFL busts (William Green, Mike Cloud... 4 TD game notwithstanding)

Silva is slow. He tackles well... I could see him catching on as a Cover-2 LB a la Ian Gold if he puts on 10-15 lbs. or so, but I think his NFL role will be special teams. He's a late day 2 pick, maybe valued higher for Cover-2 teams if they think they can convert him.

I didn't say you didn't know your football, but you were posting your OPINIONS as if they were the final word.

Having said that, don't compare Callendar to Green or Cloud because Callendar is more of a Michael Westbrook type of receiver. His catch & run ability is among the best in college football...period. And if you watched the game yesterday (and I know you were there), you saw Callendar's 40 yard TD run where he exploded through the line and outran everyone for the score. I don't have a crystal ball, but my gut feeling tells me his versatility will make him far more desirable than Green & Cloud ever were.

Time will tell I guess.

Knight had some great burst too. Callendar might make it, but college backs like him are a dime a dozen. It isn't that he doesn't have skills that are translatable to the NFL, it's more that other backs have the same skills... and more.

The guy I like is Craig Steltz, a safety out of LSU, the guy is a hit machine, and could be availible in the third.
