Patriots restructure Dave Andrews contract

Thought it could Judon, Bailey or even Hunter, but Andrews works as well!!

So is that enough to cover the draft pick signings? If so, then barring another addition like Flowers or such, they can sit tight until training camp and make another move before week 1 to give themselves maneuvering space.

I think so, but I could be wrong. I believe they only needed around $2M.

All of those pointless posts, worrying about when and how they were going to create cap space, instead of just waiting for it to happen…

Unfortunately they will probably continue,, and ringing posts about how they now need to create more space, to bring on additional free agents prior to the start of the season.

If the deal is as described, this basically this borrows a bit of cap from future years - pushes $1m into each of 2023 and 2024.
Patriots have a lot of cap space next year - many other teams have already borrowed considerably from 2023.

I think there will be another addition or two, but this accounting move was quite benign.

Yeah, I think they'll want a little more money in the bank so to speak, for when a vet gets cut that they want to jump on.

I agree, but that kind of thing can happen during camp/preseason once you've had a chance to see what you have and see what injuries pop up when the pads come on. For example, they might be thinking about trading Wynn to free up 10m, but if they get to camp and none of the young OL step up, or Trent Brown gets hurt, now it's better to find another way to free up the space. Maybe they have a tentative deal ready to move Agholor, but then Thornton starts slow, Nixon was a mini-camp mirage, and Parker gets hurt. Now it's better to keep him even though he's expensive. I think they can make some room pretty quickly when they need to, it's best to wait until all of the factors are in play so your decision can be the most educated one possible.

Also, I think we will be watching other teams as well as unsigned free agents out there like Flowers, Suh, etc....

They did just enough to be able to sign the last 3 rookies. Cap still <$0.5M, confirming Kraft's wish not to go out of pocket w/ guarantees. Andrews is grossly under paid because he chose to stay w/ the Pats (he had higher offers) so it makes sense to do this with the loyal vet. Expect the $10M+ needed for the rest of the year to come from trades a/o cuts.

I don't see ANY issue with guaranteeing the 2022 salary of a veteran whose salary will be guaranteed in any case after the 53 roster is set. The team can do up to $25M of these WITHOUT affecting the compensation to the player.

The team did Andrews a solid by move some incentives into guaranteed money.

The team will do however many of these are needed. Yes, of course, there will be trades and cuts. However, no trades or cuts are necessary for cap purposes.

Pats are not guaranteeing $25M lol. It's not happening. You refuse to see what's been painfully obvious since Kraft spoke about it in Palm Beach. You seem to think they'll operate that way just because they can, although they haven't and won't.

The $10.8M they need will mainly come from cuts and trades. Kraft doesn't want to push any more $ to the future. Deal with it.
