DRAFT Welcome Pierre Strong, Jr - Pick # 127.

Sony was a JAG. Chubb is the real deal. The reason folks still hate the pick is we passed on an all-pro RB to take his lesser teammate ahead of Chubb.

4 years in Chubb with 4800+ rushing yards and 36 TDs:

4 years in Michel with 3100 rushing yards and 18 TDs:

So Chubbs has 150% the rushing yards and 200% the rushing TDs of Sony Michel. That's a huge difference in quality.

How is that working out for the Browns???

So what?
How much whining were you doing when he was crushing it on the way to a SB Title?
It was said that he was the more polished Pass Blocker, which is kind've important when you have a slow pocket passer.
Chubb is a better runner, he'd still be somewhere else right now, because BB isn't going to tie up a bunch of $ on a RB.

I tire of Geniuses.....
Truth hurts doesn't it? Who's to say if we had drafted Chubb instead of Michel, we win an extra 2 or 3 titles instead of just one and Brady stays in New England? We'll never know, all we do know for certain is that Chubb is the far better player.

Same as with Harry, we got an outright awful player who contributes nothing in the passing game, but if we had taken Deebo Samuel or AJ Brown or DK Metcalf instead of N'Keal Busto, do we go to the Superbowl instead of suffering through 4 years of awful performance that never lived up to a 1st round pick while his peers drafted after him performed much better and earned pro bowl honors?

That's what the Browns get for drafting Baker Mayfield with the #1 overall pick. He's a worst BUST than N'Keal Harry or Sony Michel just because the QB position is that much more IMPORTANT compared to other positions. Just because another team built their team around a BUST and failed because of it doesn't excuse BB for having poor drafts for most of the past decade, 2021 being the lone bright star in a sea of reaches and incomprehensible picks like Jordan Richards, Slowjuan Williams, the litany of names goes on and on.

Sony wasn’t a bust, they won a ring riding his back in 2018.

The Pats took Sony and and not Chubb because Sony could pass block, could understand complex pass blocking schemes the Patriots employ… because their QB was 41 years old, Chubb was a poor pass blocker and getting Tom killed wasn’t part of the game plan.

This is the same reason Rhamondre was unplayable last season until he learned how to pass block and they played Bolden instead.

This isn’t fantasy football, it’s real life football. Learn the game.

If Pierre Strong gets stronger and can pass block he could play this season, if he doesn’t pass block… he’ll ride the pine the way Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson did before him.

Pass blocking at RB is important… ask Alex Smith. His leg turned the shape of a pretzel and his career ended prematurely because his RB couldn’t pass block. This isn’t fantasy football.

"During the third quarter of that pre-draft all-star game — coincidentally, with soon-to-be Patriots teammate Matthew Judon looking on from the broadcast booth — Strong caught a short screen pass, broke one arm tackle behind the line and another 25 yards downfield and proceeded to use his prodigious speed to dust the entire West Team defense for a 65-yard touchdown."

“Hey!” Judon exclaimed after the South Dakota State product weaved behind a blocking receiver to reach the goal line. “That’s a way to use your block.”

NOTE: IMO that play was meh...this video has him lighting it up....very impressive. But yeah...he can catch too.

I am 1000% on-board the Pierre Strong train

Pierre Strong Jr. is potentially right there in the mix if he carves out a special role, in combination w special teams contributions. He gives us something we've been missing, serious speed. It'll be good to see that tool in action. I am excited to have him. I love our guys. I think Stevenson is special, I thought Harris Classic is special. On another team. Now in PVnV novel style, here's the cold water.

One of the linked articles on the front page had a good summing up of the Pats. They basically saiid the JEST, Dolphins, and Bills all got noticably better. I thought the writer would trash us but he got it right, by my lights. He pointed out we're deep at WR and RB now... but, as of what we know today, the high ceiling isn't there. Dead on.

The only time we had 1 guy lighting up the league at either position was Randy Moss, in a 2-Sb-Loss era (with Brady.) Or, it was an age where the football bounced the other way a couple more times, to be less dramatic. Anyway, we don't usually have the shiny toys at RB and WR. TE, we've done okay with.

To the point: I love all that depth. Stevenson is all ready to take his place at the top of the chart, for what that is worth, once Harris Classic is gone. But everybody will "mainly ride the pine" in the Patriots' backfield, because we go 3-4 deep at guys who could start. We'd much rather get that production in the value bin by combining a few guys... no hard feelings after the rookie deal, go somewhere they'll pay. That's how we do with running backs. Yawl's mistake is learning their names :D

Our backs are rentals of various quality. Nobody's going to be a back "forever remembered as the face of the Patriots" like Priest Holmes with the Chiefs or Jerome Bettis being the Steelers incarnate, or to be more fair (modern) about it, the way Chubb in now a "Cleveland running back" probably for all time in the popular mind, even if he leaves in 3 years after this extension is up. Our backs will not lead your fantasy league. They will not be televised will not be televised will not be televised sorry, momentary Gil Scott Heron possession even though they will because of all the prime time games and if you don't read that as the NFL being "all in on Mac" I don't know what you're smoking.... but I digress...

And we'll once again, quietly, have one of the best running back corps in the league.

Reportedly pretty good already.

Only six more days and its an official summer month then just 3 months without (reg. season) football

On the contrary, Damien Harris was a top 10 fantasy RB in 2021. And since Patriots players are less hyped in fantasy circles you probably could have picked him up as a 3rd or 4th round bargain while securing a top 10 point scoring bellcow.

I'm also pretty sure that Pierre Strong won't be highly rated, and you could probably secure him as your last round pick as insurance in case Harris goes down. He might even be available on the waiver wire after the draft ends, but always draft your RB 'handcuffs'.

I stand corrected. This is what happens when you're "away from the game too long." But he's still not one of those "OMG my whole season revolved around this guy" guys and never will be, nor will any NE RB... they become stars and that is expensive. It also puts a lot of wear on the tread. Ask King Henry.
