DRAFT Patriots select WR Tyquan Thornton at 50.

I've been wanting this kind of wr for YEARS. Decent stats with actual speed. It feels like we didn't overthink it for once and went for the guy that seemed as opposite of Harry as it gets. Skinny and weakish, but fast and creates separation.

I'm hoping this doesn't mean the end for Agholor because I want as many wrs with speed as possible.
That’s a good point about being the anti-N’Keal.

It’s almost as if Bill is admitting to overthinking the first round pick who so shined in the interview but is slow.

The offense now has a desperately needed element: a vertical threat to take the top off the defense.

A few long TD passes to Thompson will get a safety deeper and backpedaling more.

It opens up cracks in the running game.

I don’t see the kid’s value as a STer though. Too thin to be getting hit as a kickoff returner. Maybe I’m wrong.

Last year, while watching Mac Jones’ college highlight films, he was dropping dimes to wide receivers streaking down the field with a step or two on the d back. The patriots never had this last year. While some of it was the fault of the o-line who I think was overrated by many here not giving him time, I think most was the skill set of the receivers. I am hopeful we now have that.

This guy can separate and can catch the ball. I really like the pick, regardless if the talking heads call it a reach. The speed is not something you can coach and he has it

And the speed translates to the field because it is natural meaning he is smooth and has multiple gears. Does not look like he is running and he is flying.

With those tiny little legs flying.

It's over the top. The other 31 GMs miss on more picks the they hit on as well. There is zero perspective or accounting for context
Precisely. His drafts were excellent until 6 years ago. It's amazing he did that well. But people aren't accounting for the fact that we always pick late (29-32) and that losing draft picks for nonsense or trading them away make the drafting look worse.

  • Remove the FB on offense
  • Upgrade X WR in Parker
  • Upgrade interior OL pass blocking (Karras & Mason to Strange & Onwenu)
  • Add a vertical threat at WR for Meyers & Bourne to have more room to operate
For an offense that finished top 10 in scoring, 10th in 3rd down pct. & 14th in yards per play with a rookie QB they’ve made some improvements this offseason.

They had some impressive moments (lighting up the browns defense, scoring 36 on the titans defense) once Trent Brown returned. I get being skeptical on defense but the offense is in pretty good shape IMO.

They should be better at running the ball uf a safety needs to be dedicated to prevent the deep ball.

4.28 40 (4.21 unofficial) & can run routes. Dynamic! Hopefully he can pick up the system. Josh Gordon also went to Baylor, where their route tree is known to be pretty limited & he was able to grasp the terminology. He can block & throw the football as well. Love the pick.

Here's a funny stat about the Patriots selecting WRs.

If we hit on Thornton, then we will be 2/5 on receivers picked on days 1 & 2 in the last decade (heck, you can make that the last 12 years). 40% success rate. Which is better than the league average.

If he busts, we will be by far the worst in the NFL.

Mac may not ever be as good as Brady but he does seem to like to throw the deep ball more, and throws a good one, and this kid looks like he's open deep a lot.
