Consider The Whole Draft

You're right man. I see the light now. The Patriots are going to go from 2nd place in the division at 10-7 (one game behind the division leader Bills at 11-6) all the way down to 4th place behind the 4-13 Jets all because the Jets got a good rookie WR and CB and the Patriots got a Guard that you don't like.
I mean, this is a likely scenario.

Last 20 Picks at #21
Kwity Paye, DE
Jalen Reagor, WR
Darnell Savage, DB
Billy Price, C
Jarrad Davis, LB
Will Fuller, WR
Cedric Ogbuehi, OT
Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, DB
Tyler Eifert, TE
Chandler Jones, DE
Phil Taylor, DT
Jermaine Gresham, TE
Alex Mack, C
Sam Baker, T
Reggie Nelson, DB
Laurence Maroney, RB
Matt Jones, WR
Vince Wilford, DT
Jeff Faine, C
Daniel Graham, TE

Hopefully, Strange will turn out better than most of them. If BB found another VWilfork/CJones-type fit this year, then I have every reason to believe he would've grabbed him.

The lost twice to Miami, got blown out twice by the Bills, both of them have gotten better and the Pats have gotten worse. Now the Jets have added the top WR and CB in the draft, along with a great edge rusher. Granted they are still the Jets, but right now, the Pats are battling them for draft position in the 2023 draft and that's about it.
You do realize that there is more to building a team than who you picked up in the first round?
I get your disappointment in the pick and there were players I liked better as well.
But we have the remainder of the draft and a bunch of free agents after the draft and we have already filled a big need.
And as much as you dislike Bill the GM, there is no argument to be made that Bill the Coach is not elite.
Let's see how things play out going forward.

Then don't trade your Pro Bowl Guard for a 5th round pick.

The Bills still haven't punted and JC is now in LA. This is an indefensible pick, especially at 29. He could have been had at 54 and most likely in the 80s someplace. I don't care if he is the next John Hannah, until the Pats can make the Bills punt at least once in a game, they will not win the division.
Why do you think they traded Mason? Obviously there was a reason and obviously it wasn’t “we can get a 5th for a pro bowler” (although im
not sure how you call a guy who never made a probowl a pro bowler??)

You have absolutely no way of knowing when he would have been picked. So that’s just bs.

He will absolutely not make any plays on defense. But we have about 25 guys to do that and I’m sure we will be drafting some of them. Probably 2 with the picks we got on the trade down. We need to play offense too.

Well, okay then. This thread and similar threads around this time will be fun to revisit in November.

Yes, if Davis were available, we would have rushed the ticket up, as we did with Wilfork. We might even have traded up if he lasted a couple of more spots; to go ahead of 13 was just too rich.

I don’t think anyone is disappointed Cole Strange is a Patriot, it’s just where he was picked.

We had a really good guard and traded him for a 5th, then we come into rd 1 and pick a guard? It’s a head scratcher. This team has to get faster and add talent on D, particularly at LB, DL, and CB. We also need to get Mac a true weapon.

Trading down and bypassing Jermain Johnson who many thought to be a top 10 guy could bite them in the *** if he turns into a stud for the JETE.

Mason was a good run blocker as a pass blocker not so good. I want protection for Mac. YMMV

I’m seeing some real crappy reactions from folks I previously had developed much respect for. I’m disappointed in a lot of the fans and how they’re reacting to this. Honestly it makes me feel they don’t deserve a successful team.
It's like everything else in the country. Half the people see the glass half full, the other half sees it half empty. I accept however Bill sees football players.

Just wait until they double dip at guard
Oh they will most likely be drafting more OL but that should be later on day 3. OL and DB are good spots for 6th and 7th round flyers.

Nobody knows how this pick will turn out. How anyone feels about it will have zero impact on how it turns out.

So you have 2 choices.
1) Be optimistic and try to understand the reason behind the luck and how it can help the team.
2) Be negative, cry, trash everyone involved and act like an entitled child.

I cannot imagine how any person feels their life is better by being in group 2.

The Jets picked three times before the Pats did, they got the best WR and CB in the draft, and a steal of an edge rusher at 26.

The Pats got the 90th rank player, a 24 year old Air Force dropout from a Div 3 school, with Pick 29.

Can you say "last place?"

The Jets also lost a pro-bowl caliber DT in Foley Fatukasi, and still have a wildly erratic, mistake-prone QB in Zach Wilson. No doubt they had a good start to their draft (we THINK), but they have a long, long way to go to be relevant in the AFC East.

I heard BB say to Jimmy Johnson that he doesn't want to coach a-holes. The Patriots are going to have a roster of smart guys, team captains, four-year college players, and guys with degrees. Only thing lacking is talent. Maybe we need a coach who is willing to draft some talented knuckleheads and keep them in line for a few years, like Jimmy Johnson, Andy Reid and Mike Tomlin. It's possible that he just doesn't want to do that anymore.

Belichick has more super bowls than all those coaches combined...

I want the team to get better. I *think* a good route to getting there is to get faster, but I'll take skill and ability over speed.
I'm going out on a limb here and saying that I think the Pats are better and faster right now than the team that finished out 2021.

And I don't think they're nearly done. After the draft, I fully expect guys like Flowers/Hicks being signed, unless they adequately adress those needs in the next two days.

seriously, are you ok?
I’m more okay than all the folks posting how desolate they are because the Pats made a Strange pick in round 1 and they don’t agree.

being passionate if great, but being so devastated by a single draft pick that you renounce the team until they fire the coach is way out of proportion. I mean, look at what it took to push Fireman Ed to do something similar.

only thing that might make me not okay is concern for the mental health of those crapping themselves all over this board because of that pick.

Hopefully we will see a happier forum over the next couple of days.....still time
Nah, some people just like to project as much misery as they can possibly generate.

The most idiotic take to come out of this draft pick has to be that we didn't need a guard and a guard won't help us. Do people realize we lost not one, but both starters?
Nah, they don't realize it, and they also can't construe that BB also realizes it, and had his reasons why last year's starters are gone. Somehow after years of following this team they are still expecting to get memos from BB explaining his thought process to them.

The Patriots draft the fastest guy in the draft and a fast CB with the most return TD's in NCAA history and fans complain about the team not getting faster because they drafted one of the most athletic guards in the last 20 years?

You're letting Belichick hate make you foolish.
