Player Signing Patriots sign Malcom Butler

Draft one high and now he might not have to immediately start and you still have Starters in Mills, Butler, and Jones. Our safeties our solid so even without JC I expect this Secondary to work. If Butler just can't get it back then you rely on the kid you drafted. Boom done move onto the next position.
This CB group to be above average will need Butler to play very well and the rookie Cb if we draft one will need to be a stud. When was the last time Bill drafted a good CB? I don’t want Cyrus Jones or Duke Dawson 2.0

I love this move for many reasons. Looking forward to seeing what’s guaranteed, I am guessing because he sat out 2021 then almost nothing will be designated as “LTBE”.

Why are they paying him this much money?!....

Think you go fishing for one more CB Cousin?.
I will get booed for this one but one CB is a former first rounder that just got cut. Trae Waynes.
"Minnesota selected him in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft and the team was hoping he would develop into their next great cornerback.

Waynes was solid in his tenure with the Vikings. But he was still really never able to live up to the expectations that came with being drafted in the first round".
This kid will be cheap. The Bengals cut him. He took a covid year. That did not help his cause. He signed a three year 42 million dollar contract with the Bengals and he did not perform even after the wasted covid year.
Could be a typical BB reclamation project. Mills was probabaly is the comp. He has the skills of a first rounder and the mind of a camp free agent. He's only 29. 4.31 speed. In his 5 years with the Vikes, 247 tackles, 7 ints and 42 PDs.

Waynes would probably improve this secondary too. But unless BB is a magician, I don’t see this reclamation secondary competing with playoff quality WRs.

I feel better with this secondary now:

Mills, Butler, Jon Jones, Terrance Mitchell, JoeJuan Williams, Miles Bryant, and Shaun Wade.

That is about as well as you can do in FA without breaking the bank. Just add a rookie to the mix....

It's an oddity that the late Rd/undrafted guys did better than early picks. But Butler and JC show he can coach em up so I see no reason to not try and draft one high again.

Fills a hole, but I do worry how well he'll play missing a season at 31. Guessing incentive laden, so probably a reasonable contract.

Guarantee we're going corner high still.

How people like to indulge in throwing around depth charts and moaning at the beginning of new league year is amazing.

Pats will add at least 4 more CBs before TC through FA, Draft, UDFA, FA-2, Trade..
Acting like signing free agent on a low contract is telling some definite story at the position is beyond silly.

Hope he doesn't get benched for the biggest game of the year again. Ugh!

Logan Ryan?

Since then he’s picked up a bunch of very good players via trade, free agency, or as Undrafted free agents. lots of good UDFAs, Jackson, Jones, Butler.

If Jackson was taken instead of Dawson and Jonathan Jones was taken instead of Cyrus, would you still complain about Bill’s CB drafting ability. He found two good rookie CBs in those years, they just were undrafted.

2 years 9 million? Without knowing the details, I thought that was good value, borderline cheap
I figured they might make a run at Steven Nelson, but he would have been way more expensive than this.

So maybe there's enough left to get Hicks, Flowers, or a guy like Clowney.
