Patriots officially sign Jamie Collins

I get what you're saying, but they did fall apart the second half of the year.
The offense fell apart in the second half of the year. The defense was built to win.

The offense couldn’t score and got worse when Brady got hurt in KC… a fact many seem to ignore or have forgotten.

2019 NFL rank in points per drive:
Defense #1
Offense #17

Coach Bill will ship Detroit a second rounder for washed up Jamie Collins
No need, they cut him because he wanted out... and “washed up” players don’t lead their team in tackles like Collins did in Detroit last year

He did the same on the Patriots and a Browns before that. When healthy the guy is a stud.

As I said they went from being a record breaking defense first half to not even top 5 second half. Offer 1st half VS 2nd half defensive stat comparisons that disproves this, not a full season total.

The only one I checked was points allowed by game. First half it was 7.6. Historic and will carry a full season #1 ranking with even a so-so second half where they averaged allowing 20.5. Still good but it wouldn't have put them in the top 10 defenses for 2019.

Turnovers, yards given up blah blah. It wasn't the same defense. I agree that the offense might have broken them, but they gave up almost 3 times as many points first half to second half, and as I remember the defense created a million turnovers and points the first games, which also seemed to disappear.

Collins doesn't bring anything the Pats don't already have. That's my concern..

If it wasn't for Uche being ridiculously held on that final TB drive, he sacks Brady in the end zone for a safety. Collins, to me, is a waste of space.

I hear the concerns but waste of space is a bit rich, dont you think?
I too wanted to see Uche slide into Collins role but for whatever reason that did not happen . even with injuries and subpar play of other LBs.

Also this LB group desperately needs depth not only bc of injuries but bc Langi & Tavai can't be fully trusted on D & also added versatility to move pieces around. Lateral D/speed is still an issue and thats Collins speciality - hopefully he still has it..

High and KVN look like they've lost a step or two. If Collins ignites some spark there thats a well worth signing.

btw - Uche can still grow into bigger role . but its better he earns it.

I know this board is upset but frankly, the DBs held their own against the GOAT this past Sunday. I think it made it more easier to pull the trigger on someone who wasn't going to be here next season anyway.
Yeah I’m not bothered. I loved Gilmore but the secondary has looked very solid this year. The way they throttled Tampa was extremely encouraging, JC looks the part of a #1. Plus Wade hasn’t even seen the field yet.

The Pats offense also went from scoring 40-30 points a game to scoring in the teens during the same time period… the defense was built to defend the Chiefs, to defend the pass.

Bill is largely unconcerned with the run… which is fine when your offense is scoring points and forcing your opponents into shootouts and having to pass. The offense failed so the defense couldn’t play to their strengths.

Let the freelancing begin

Can Collins play tackle?

Great we are bringing back an old player to replace an another old player we brought back this summer and to play with another old player that didn’t play for a year and don’t seem to be able to play anymore.

aren’t we suppose to get younger and better?

You got something against old people?
