PostGame Thread Official Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Jets

Immediate Postgame Reactions
We went from the GOAT to a rookie, but reading this board people's expectations are still are stuck on GOAT.

After last season I'm thrilled to have an accurate, cerebral QB.
I fully agree with you, but fyi, Cam completed 77% of his passes against the Jets in their first matchup last year (and 79% against the Dolphins in their first matchup).

But both the terrible run d in 2002 and the good run d in 2005 have nothing to do with tackle numbers being misleading.

My point was about Bentley. He sucks despite having 8 tackles today. Do you think Bentley is a good LB ?

is it just me or does it seem to take forever to hand the ball to the RB or play action when it’s a fake?
Agree. The Pats do have a lot of long developing runs and run fakes. If you're playing a penetrating defense that can present opportunities for the defense to get TFL/pressure/sacks. That said, if blocked well - it can immediately turn into a huge run because it creates the ability to "turn" the DL and prevent pursuit.

I was responding to 2002 and 2005 proving tackle numbers are misleading.

I would posit TFL are a positive LB "tackling stat", but can also lack context as it's often the DL that facilitates one.

When I'm right, I'm right:

1. Was right about the 2TE offense and 2009-2012 drafts built the foundation of the last 3 rings.
2. Pats need an elite CB1 to be a contender, never won a ring without an elite CB1. Pay Gilmore.
3. Was right about Mac Jones last yr before almost anyone else here.
4. Said the team needs a bonafide NT. Godcheaux and Bentley suck.
5. This one is super obvious now but was saying Durant and Herron suck and should not play.

I will cede I can get a little overboard when it comes to our overrated oc. I do not want to waste another year of Belichick's life with a fraud oc who Brady carried on his back for 15 years except for 3 different seasons where McD sucked without Tom Brady. BB only has a couple good years left and I don't want to waste any more seasons while everyone finally realizes the oc is a fraud.

Yes and TFL is a small representation of the job of a Lb, plus the system they play on influences the opportunity (as well as the opportunity to get gashed by guessing wrong) to do so.

Didn't see game, but tried to catch reports. Saw Van Noy's tweat about Jet's QB throwing 4 picks.....WTF?

A couple of mind blowing picks that went to no one. One dumb throw into coverage and one that went through the receiver's hands.

It was beautiful.

Mac will begin to throw the ball diwnfield. They are bringing him a long slowly when the situation allows for it.

Run defense is a real problem.

I'm not sure if the run defense is much of a problem. The Jete didn't score. If they could run at will they would have but they couldn't. So I don't know.

McDaniels really should’ve taken that Colts job because he’s coaching himself out of another job. Also, I think what he did to the Colts has backfired among Owners as nobody takes him serious to wanting the job.

In two games, they limited their opponents to 17 and 6 point. I know people want the defense to lock down every play, but somehow I don’t think the defense is the problem. It seems like the OL, which makes the run game stall, and which allows Mac to not have enough time is the real problem.

He broke his helmet...and the equipment manager don't accept no broken helmets.

(now not kidding - do they have spare helmets right sized etc? Was he indeed in the concussion protocol as Trent Green mentioned?)
I believe that players are only allowed to have 1 helmet unless the shell breaks. But they don't typically have spares on the sidelines..

And Jackson only missed a couple of plays because of it. Jackson was never in the protocol. The team doctor came over and asked if he was ok as he approached the sideline and that was it..

Agree. Also he screwed himself out of the Eagles job insisting to own all personnel decisions (talk about a total lack of self awareness).

Now we have a guy gunning for his next job at the risk of our rookie QB getting hurt. All this shotgun is McDaniels stat padding so he can interview again in 4 months, and he doesn't care if Mac gets injured in the process.

???

I don't see where you're getting that notion. McDaniels is the O.C. of the "best" rookie QB in the league, so far. That doesn't cost you coaching jobs. That gets owners lining up to give you a coaching job.

A couple of post game thoughts:

1.) any win is a good win in the nfl!
2.) why all the noise about down field throws. The offensive line played poorly and Jones did the right thing and took what the defense gave him.
3.) the new expensive weapons we got Jones in the offseason are not that great and struggling to run the right routes snd get separation!
4.) our run defense is unacceptable. Guy is just about cooked. Godchaux plays too high. Hightower looks terrible.
5.) we have to run the ball better to have any chance of winning as the season goes on.
