RIP Fred Stanfield

Yep, if you were a young boy of a certain age growing up in Greater Boston from 1968-72, then you know the names of the Bruins' top 3 lines & top 2 defensive pairings, and the names of all 5 members of their top PP unit: Esposito... Bucyk... McKenzie... Bobby Orr... and Fred Stanfield...

For those too young to remember the 1970-71 Bruins, think of what it was like watching the 1985-86 Celtics if you're old enough to remember them... without the championship at the end of that season unfortunately... Or maybe the 2007 Patriots is a better analogy...

Just as the 2016-18 Patriots and the 1984-86 Celtics should've been ThreePeat Champions, so too should the 1970-72 Bruins...

The closest player on the Bruins today who could compare to Stanfield would be David Krejci, though I think that Krejci is probably the superior player but their style & overall games were very similar...

Growing old & dying sucks man... RIP Freddie, and thanks for the memories.

I understand the love for Russell and not trying to derail this in any way but Orr was as talented and influential player this city has ever had. He deserves mention along side of Gretzky and again might be more influential than any hockey player ever.

Absolutely... Whenever Orr had the puck behind his own net and would start skating with it up-ice, the crowd would all stand up and roar in anticipation... What a sight to behold... Unstoppable on two healthy knees... A true pity that his career would precede the advances in arthroscopic surgery...

Ahead of his time by a half century
