Tom Brady's "Rivals", False GOATs and Hangers-On

I didn't see Carson Palmer. He was considered part of the big 3 with Brady and Peyton for a season or 2.

Mahomes not only needs to win the SB this season. But he needs to do it against Brady. Beating Prescott or Stafford in the big game doesn't get him closer to Brady.

This is according to certain toxic media members.

Ugh.
He's only 6 rings behind ...

Mahomes doesn't need 7 rings. If he gets to 4 or 5 SB wins, while winning 6 MVP's at minimum, that will propell him past Brady.
No it won't. And he's not winning 6 MVPs ...

Peyton Manning won 5 league MVP's. When you compare Manning's first three years to Mahome Boy it's not close. Mahomes was better.

Thus, why I think Mahome boy can get to 6 MVP's.

Talent wise, Mahomes can do more than Manning too.

Extremely unlikely Mahomes gets 4-5 rings and 6 MVPs.

Totally different era. Mahomes wouldn't have a shot putting up the numbers he does if he played when Manning and Brady were early in their careers.

Not happening. There's also lots of really good QB's in the league now.

Jury is still out on Allen. Jackson's playing style worries me. Will he last another 5 years? Baker Mayfield has alot to prove still. I think Mahomes biggest competition in the conference moving forward will be Herbert. There's something special about that kid. But will the Chargers get it right and surround him with the proper talent?

It's hilarious that you think that's how football - or sports in general - works.

Mahomes can't control who he plays in the SB. He only needs to win it to continue the ball-washing.

Prescott looked pretty good.

I said that too...last year. That SBs are very important but not always everything in these comparisons.

Then Brady won a Super Bowl with a different team that hadn’t made the playoffs in 13 years, while curb stomping Mahomes in the SB.

Mahomes needs at least 8 now.

If only the Bears had drafted Mahomes we’d never have heard of him again. Ah well.

It's hard to tell who is serious and who is joking with some of these replies

Even though he played for the Jets and the Dolphins I kind of feel bad for Pennington in retrospect, he was a legit NFL player whose throwing ability was just destroyed by injuries.

It's funny looking back on Brady's "quarterback controversies" in retrospect, Cassel had 1 watchable season and died and the 49ers just burned the #3 overall pick to try to replace Jimmy G.
I remember thinking prior to the start of the 2008 season that Chad Pennington would be a great backup to Tom Brady. Since I was an AOLe at the time, I was on that board pushing for the Pats to try and get him. It wasn't to be though because he wanted to be a starter.

Chad ended up in Miami, the team that tied the Pats at 11-5 and took the AFCE on the tie-breaker. Had Chad been with us in 2008 instead of Matt Cassell when we squared off against the Jets with BrINT Favre, we would have had the ex-Jet QB as our QB. We may not have lost to the Jets in OT at Foxboro on Troy Brown day.

One last thing about Pennington, the most impressive thing of all. With him at QB the Jets had more wins than losses. That's some feat.

I just looked it up, and it turns out Mahomes has played for three seasons. Three. Must be a typo there.

Taking over a team that had a winning record in five consecutive seasons before he joined. And has never played without one of the best supporting casts in the league, guys who were already established stars when he arrived.

But yes, let’s talk about the distance he’ll put between him and Manning over the next 20 years and which QBs might have some outside chance of ever stopping him. And never, ever bet against this guy after everything he’s proven.

The Steelers took Palmer out at the knee after he hit on a long pass, his first, early in a 2005 playoff game. It was the same type of thing they did to Brady in 2001.

Bill Cower was a dirty coach. There is no doubt in my mind he had Hines Ward intentionally take out Rodney Harrison.

20 yards away from the play and Ward just rolled right into his leg from his blind side. It's disgusting that there were no suspensions and record breaking fines for such a deliberate hit like that.

Palmer was never the same after the Steelers kneecapped him, though he did have that one nice late career season on the Cardinals. Then again the Bengals and Raiders are trash organizations so it's hard to say how he would have done on a better run team for most of his career.
