Gilmore on the Physically Unable To Perform List

My father the conspiracy theorist thinks that this is all about the contract. But to me it seems like it really is about the injury. Am I naïve?
No you are correctamundo. If you listen to what only the most reliable and plugged-in Pats media have said, its about the injury. He'll be back
Not sure where you put Curran on that scale, but he just wrote three days ago:

It’s the contract, not the quad.

Gilmore has been rehabbing his surgically-repaired quad throughout camp. Meanwhile, NFL Network’s Mike Giardi reported there were no restrictions on his workouts as far back as June 21.

If there wasn’t a contract issue, would the 30-year-old Gilmore be on the field by now or would the team be taking its time with bringing back one of their most important defenders? It’s hard to say definitively. But it’s not hard to imagine the Patriots definitively wanting to see Gilmore on the field before handing him either a bump or an extension.

Curran and Perry went with similar lines on today's podcast. There seems to be an impasse where the Pats want to see him do a few practice sessions before they put anything on the table whereas Gilmore's side doesn't seem to want to do anything serious on the field till the contract issues are ironed out.

I’m not liking this.

I hope bb is one of those calling Denver about trading for a corner back!

If Jajuan Williams doesn’t win the starting job in Gilly’s place, that’s pretty bad.

I dont include Curran among the top Pats beat guys anymore. Hes been very inconsistent for a while now. Cant trust what he says. Reiss and Howe are at the top of the food chain.
Gleaning from everything reliable that I've read I believe that yes, of course the contract is an issue but he's not back yet cause he'ses not physically ready. If they worked out his contract tonight he wouldnt all of a sudden start practicing tomorrow. Besides the Pats have been raving about his work/participation in positional meetings where he has been extremely vocal and sharing knowledge. almost like another coach. Dont think ged be doing that if he was simply holding out.
Curran is just another media whore, thirsty for clickbait. Keep stirring the pot.
Hes a sellout. Its a shame he used to be the best. I never read him anymore.

People are just BEGGING for immature replies. You can’t say « big muscle » around me !

Big hole at CB and no obvious guy to step up who has shown he is up to it. Doesn’t seem like you would get Mills for this job. Makes the JMac decision curious as well.
Giggle

so we need big muscle to fill a big ho, I mean hole?

just cause @farn asked for it.

Wade was listed as a 4th team CB in Baltimore, which means he was either their 7th or 8th best. His last year in college painted a similar picture. I think he's on the roster for more long term considerations, which is fine since he's under contract for 4 years at minimum salary.

he was/is highly regarded (1st round talent -so 1/2 string.) as a SLOT corner. But only when switched to outside did. his stock drop. If still good in inside/ middle he lets them move other dominoes around.

We should have traded Gilmore last year. Now we get nothing and he walks in March.

They’ll weather the storm unless McCourty (34) has lost a step. If that happens, the secondary is screwed. As of now, with a presumably strong front 7, two high level players in Jackson and McCourty should be enough to hold down the fort.
I felt McCourty has lost steps the last 2 seasons.

The Pats say he'll be ready week 3ish

Gilly tells Josiah Anderson Jul 9 he is almost running at full speed and should be close to ready by camp.

The PUP is about the contract and leverage.

Get CB Bradley Roby from HOU. Kid could always play.

Thanks for the response, I get where you're coming from, and appreciate your opinions.

I get where Reiss gets all the respect from, but it seems to me he's more often than not stating the obvious, and isn't comfortable challenging the party line.

I don't hear much from Howe since he disappeared behind The Athletic's paywall.

I also don't get cable TV because it ain't worth the money and don't listen to Boston sports talk shows because it ain't worth the time.

So when I do hear from Curran it's usually via his podcast, or occasionally via written pieces on the NBC sports site.

On these he's got a format where he doesn't have to be a full on media whore, he's got time to walk you through what his positions are and how he comes up with them.

And sometimes he's even apologetic for going with the click bait lines he's run with at times, but it's all a part of the job if you want your face on TV.

I think of him more of being a media wife instead of a media whore, occasionally having to smile while doing some things to keep daddy happy, instead of on the street corner selling it to one and all like Felger and Mazz, two unrepentant media whores.

Personally I think this is a full blown 'sit-in' and Gilmore could and would be playing if he got the money he wanted. I think the move to PUP was the Patriots way of escalating in a 'soft power' kind of way. I don't think we see Stephon again for anything but the mandatory minimum games to get his accrued season in, and even then he may just be on the roster but not play. His side doesn't want to risk injury for anything but DPOY-level money and the Pats won't give him that without seeing where he's really at physically, which I think is less than DPOY form due to both after effects of injury and slowing down due to age. It's hard for me to see this one coming to any other resolution.

I presume this means BB and the front office staff read the signs wrong.

They thought they could get him to play ball for one more season, but he ain't.

Usually the Pats are the 'one season too soon instead of one season too late' team.

Cut your losses early so you don't end up with your ass hanging in the wind.

Looks like they need to run some laps around the field, they've got the brown end of the stick on this one.

If only we knew he was going to have an injury requiring surgery. Even without the injury it might have been wise to have traded him but at the time we were hoping for 2 more seasons from the DPOY. We knew contract was an issue but we bumped last year and thought we could do something similar to this year or maybe even long-term but the injury really clouded all that. It is what it is. At this point I just want what he can give us on a contract year when he finally does return. He's going to need to ball out at some point to get the contract he wants next off-season.

There are some interesting free agent options there to bulk up the secondary.

Yeah, it’s definitely 20/20 hindsight. Though I thought we should have traded him last year, and said as much at the time, when it was clear we were simply punting to 2021. Makes no sense to trade him now. I’ll add the caveat that it’s probably a 50/50 shot, at best, that this is contract-related as opposed to being injury-related.
