Pats trade Sony Michel to LAR

With an overnight to think about this trade, I think it really points to the team's faith in Taylor and Stevenson.
Nice to read a post about this year's team, not what happened in the past.

Personally I wouldn't be that surprised if Bolden still doesn't make the roster. Yes, I know he's a STer but it seems we have lots of ST specialists and Bolden can't be looking good at RB compared to the younger guys.

My thing is Sony’s still GOOD. He’s no Harry. No Dowling. So we did get something out of that. Potential 4th too.
I think the injury concern is a real thing. It makes it easier to decide to keep the younger running backs.

Agree. He'll do some good things for a few months for the Rams, and then it will probably catch up to him. Hopefully, he'll get through this year and light the world on fire, and get a fat second contract, before the inevitable takes ahold. Good luck to him. Always a Patriot.
At least the Rams have a history of overpaying RBs with injury concerns, so BB did Sony a solid. The Rams also have a history of throwing lots of draft capital into trades, so they were pretty much the ideal trade partner.

I've thought about that too, and I don't disagree... BUT, I feel like I think that every training camp, and Bolden always seems to stick around, so I'll believe he's cut when I see it. Disclaimer, I'm not saying I WANT him cut necessarily, just that I agree with you it wouldn't be the most shocking move.

Honestly, I find it disappointing. There's so much money flowing through that business, it wouldn't be hard to redirect some of it toward those guys. The difference between 60K and 90K can be life changing. It is sneezing money for half of the player roster.

Belichick still seems to have the old school, "starve for a few years and prove that you want it enough" mindset about the lower ranks. As someone of his demographic (straight white male Boomer) I get it, but it feels out of date and an unecessary hardship at this point. But what do I know.
People get paid what the market for their skills are.

Damn, this thread gotten people triggered!

It would be a treat to see how it would go in person.

You seriously need to be banned. Claiming that BGC is a clown just goes to show how ridiculous you are. BGC has more intelligence and knowledge about Football in his right pinkie toenail than you have in your entire body.

YOU are the one who is embarrassingly wrong about Football 99% of the time.

YOU are the clown. And you're a POS LIAR who who has ZERO reading comprehension At no point has BGC dissed Mac or Barmore. Nor has BGC insisted that Trey Lance was the "Best QB in the Draft".

Seriously. You're a F'in TROLL and need to be permanently banned..
Appreciate it man but don't get worked up over this creature.

Basically @DropKickFlutie got mad bc I didn't appreciate him spamming my thread with his nonsense. So he went off the deep end lol. Since I've joined the forum he's been asking me questions, no problems at all. I just want to keep my threads on topic, he's perfectly capable of creating his own threads for that stuff as we've seen.

I actually still don't have a problem with him even though he's clearly angry as you can see from his post lol (my goodness)

The worst part is I don't need anyone making stuff about me. I feel like I'm pretty transparent. I have np saying how I feel, I definitely put it out there. I have 10 years worth of draft grades readily available as ammo if someone wants to go there. No need to make stuff up. That's kind of low in a place that's supposedly full of pat fans.

There's a lot of anger, bitterness and butt hurt posters though ... Which is sad bc again we should be talking football. Not this high school nonsense.

Again I appreciate it.

Well, if you live in your parents basement and post on football boards perhaps..........

LOL.
I suspect most scouts spend more overnights in run down motels in small towns in the south and midwest than anywhere else.
I've got a couple of consultant buddies who don't have a "home" - they spend so much time on the road, they just keep their stuff in storage and have things cleaned and shipped when they need it. The goal is to always have a client pay for their sleeping quarters.

Again I appreciate it.
It just sickens me that the POS is making baseless attacks against you and others who have shown, repeatedly, to base you opinions in actual fact.

You weren't even an active participant in this thread and he felt the need to disparage you.

Thoughts on Sony:
  • I never disliked Sony per se, but I hated, and still hate, the idea of using a first round pick on a running back who isn’t either a generational talent or a phenomenal dual-threat, 3-down back. The value isn’t there. The upside isn’t there.

  • I don’t think you can just call anyone who contributes to a championship a successful transaction/solid pick. It certainly helps the case, but it reeks of bias and inconsistency. On the other hand, you wouldn’t criticize the Patriots for drafting Mankins, trading for Welker or Moss, etc and call these bad moves just because the team didn’t win. Or think of it like this: if Dee Ford doesn’t jump offsides, if the Chiefs win the coin toss in OT, is Sony still a successful pick? And if they hadn’t drafted Sony, would another running back have put up comparable production in the 2018 postseason? It’s not so hard to believe that based on Sony’s skill level.

  • Let’s be honest here: that 2018 offensive line was spectacular, especially in the run game. The offense improved when they started lining up smashmouth formations. Brown, Thuney, Andrews, Mason, Cannon, Develin blocking, two of the best blocking TEs in Gronk and Allen. Sony was never great, but he ran competently and took advantage of it.

  • Most everyone had Sony ranked over Chubb. Other than the agonizing reality that they were in the same backfield in college and were drafted in the same range, there’s not much to see there. That’s the draft for you.

  • I don’t consider Sony a bust as the #31 overall player. He was decent though certainly wasn’t a hit either.

Not most everyone, and maybe not even a majority.

I did not ask about whether he had knee surgeries.

I asked how do you know that his knees are done. But of course, you cannot answer because you do not know.

The Pats got a 6th for a 1st round pick 3 years ago. That sucks. Yeah, Im going see that Brady was a 6th like that sort of thing happens all the time. NE gets a 4th in 2 year from now.
Since, as you note, they're getting a 4th in 23, saying they got a 6th for him is kind of silly. Like you think because you slipped another sentence in between no one is going to notice. Just say it. They got a 4th and a 6th for late 1st round running back on his walk year.

I suspect if we'd traded down a few slots and taken him in the second, then we'd look at getting a 4th/6th back after a few years as a very solid investment. Yes, it hurts that Chubb has been a top 3 RB. But look at the other backs taken in Sony's class, and suddenly he doesn't seem like the worst pick if we needed to invest in a RB. I appreciate the way he worked here. He wasn't a star, but we got some solid play from him when we needed it, and he didn't fumble in the playoffs.

I always think about Chubb's game against us when he fumbled twice. Not a knock on him, really, and there's no debate he's by far the better back, but when we say anyone could have run the ball like Sony did in the playoffs, I think we're too quick to overlook his ball security. Two fumbles in a game could have easily turned things the other way.

I wish him well, but I'm also excited for our future at RB.

It's annoying but don't let it bother you. I shouldn't have even engaged with him. Not sure if he has always been this way but that's on him. I said it before but I honestly feel bad for him.

There is ONE no a patriots message board or working for the patriots who would consider Taylor and Stevenson a "really good RB unit". Well, maybe their families also.
I think that Taylor and Stevenson are a part of a really good RB unit, which is why the traded Michel. If you think RB is a weakness that’s your issue.

When they drafted a RB in the first round I thought "Man, they never do that. He must be something special."
I was expecting a Tod Gurley, LaDainian Tomlinson level talent. My expectations were high.

When I read about "bone on bone" I just chalked it up to ugly internet rumors, but it kept coming up.
Not a wise choice in my opinion.

Then they drafted a receiver in the first round.....

No answer on Sonys knees. Got it.

I want to reap the benefits of this horrible draft pick now. While BB is still coaching this team. A 6th from a team more than likely to compete in the 2021 post season isnt all that great.

Yep. Dallas comes to mind taking Elliot over Ramsey. Elliot is a really good player, but did they really need him with their elite O-line? And how many more solid years does Elliot have left? It’s being proven you can talented RB’s in the 3rd-4th round.

Good points. Had they lost in 2018, the Sony hate would’ve gone up ten fold for sure.

Yep. I look at it this way. Regardless of the talent in front of him, he took advantage of his opportunity in 2018. We’ve seen a certain RB in the past have much attention taken away from him, yet had an underwhelming seasons overall. Who am I referring to guys?
