Akers is out for the season, perfect trade destination for Michel?

That was the first thing I thought of when I heard about the Akers injury, that we’d trade Michel to the Rams. Then we’d still have Harris, White, Stevenson, Bolden and Taylor. Even have Gaffney as a camp body.

I’m +1 on the bust for bust move if he only can fetch a late round pick. Sometimes guys just need a new scenery. Why not take stab at someone with NFL tape and some promise vs. going in blind on a 6-7th round rookie.

Michel, lacrosse, slowjuan and Harry for a 3rd that could upgrade to a 2nd if they exceed goals.

Some of you people are just dumber than dirt. Let me break it down for you.

1. A good run game is going to be critical for the Pats offensive success this coming season regardless who the QB is.

2. While Damien Harris IS an explosive and exciting RB, he has yet in 2 season proven he can be healthy enough to be anything more than part time performer. It is stupid to think that he is going to be a great back when he has never played more than 10 games or has had more than 140 carries in a season

3. Sony Michel has averaged 4,5 and 5.7ypc in 2 of his 3 seasons as well as having 2 900+ yd seasons. All while sharing the load during that time (and there IS no Championship in 2018 without Sony Michel) And while he clearly hasn't been explosive or powerful, he has held on to the ball and got the the yardage that was there. And last season WAS more explosive and powerful.

That being said, I wish we hadn't used a first round pick on him or ANY RB, but that wasn't HIS fault. We really should stop blaming the player for being perceived as being overdrafted.

4. In other words while we have some talent at the RB position, we are going to need ALL of it to make sure we have 3 healthy RB's to start each game. Let us not frivolously send it off to some other team for peanuts.

Exactly. It's a longer-than-usual regular season at 17 games and these guys get banged up. (Plus Rex Burkhead is gone.) Hold on to Sony.

It’s $3M for Sony. Seems like too much for low upside.

His dead cap hit is $2.3m. Let’s see how Stevenson is in camp before we suggest trading a decent RB who can pass block and chew up yards for a late pick.

This is correct.

Michel played very well in his limited role in 2020. If he is capable of averaging 5 ypc over a handful of carries a game, he is worth more than the 5th round pick he would fetch in return.

Nobody is forking out a 1st round pick for Sony.

He is not Nick Chubb.

I witnessed Sony yanked from games in 2020 because he would hit the line of scrimmage and stop unable to move the ball forward. James White replaced Sony and gained positive run yardage. Same OL versus the same defense. Harris has clearly taken Sonys top place on the depth chart after being dressed for only 10 games.

I would be concerned losing Harris, but not Sony.
