OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

I would never say that Eli is in the same class as Brady. He wouldn’t be in my top 50 QBs of all time. But he has those two rings including in one game which we know still haunts Brady to this day 4 rings later.

Mahomes though is in Brady’s class. His style of play though does not appear sustainable to me. You cannot go into your 30s throwing 40 yards down the field while horrizontal. Not in a soon to be 18 game season with undoubtedly expanded playoffs as well eliminating all byes. The grind of the longer league is gonna benefit both Brady and the Pats legacy because it’s gonna make it much more difficult to ever replicate the sustained success.

It’s hard to confidently say Mahomes is better. And if we’re looking at stats, this has to be relevant, too:

Bottom line is Brady has for many years been the King of the NFL and no one has clearly and decisively dethroned him, though he has clearly and decisively defended his crown many times. Mahomes has had two postseason chances and has not dethroned him. I don’t see how Prince Pat simply leapfrogs Brady when he failed to do what was required to leapfrog him (beat him in the postseason, or win multiple Super Bowls to establish himself as the league’s new gold standard.)

Who is better, like who is more likely to put up better stats and dominate on any given week? Probably Mahomes…but let’s give Brady an offseason to prepare with professional receivers for the first time in three years.

Who is more likely to hold the actual prize in the end? We have our answer again.
On his way to that Elway/Manning career Super Bowl stat line.

I haven't looked it up, but someone was talking about Mahomes v. Tannehill, and comparing them over the past couple of years, minus the SBs. I haven't done it yet, but here are the regular season numbers since Tannehill went to Tennessee:

Ryan Tannehill Stats | Pro-Football-Reference.com

Patrick Mahomes Stats | Pro-Football-Reference.com

I'm not sure what, exactly, the point is supposed to be, but some of those comparisons are interesting to me.

Tannehill is a strange case. Virtually no one would rank him top 10 despite borderline top-5 stats, and he was a top 10 draft pick who doesn’t have any notable weakness. Tennessee does have a very high run/pass ratio (I think 2nd in the league).

Letting Brady go could be the biggest blunder by a Boston sports team since the Sox let Ruth go. I'd throw Orr's loss in there too but I think that was on the crooked agent, not the team. Are there any others?

Career playoff wins

10. Brady - 34
9. Prescott - 0
8. Stafford - 0
7. Murray - 0
6. Jackson - 1
It's not just about stats when looking at the top QB rankings.

The most important factor should be who has the best chance to lead their team deep into the playoffs and win a SB.

If it is just limited to the next season, then Tom Brady is a slam dunk for #1. 10 SB appearance in 19 seasons as a starter. Enough said.

If it's for the next 5 years, it's Mahomes.

If it's the next 10 years, maybe Herbert. Mahomes plays reckless and I think it will catch up to him.

It’s outright embarrassing that Belichick wouldn’t even say the men’s name when he was FINALLY asked point blank by a reporter if he had sent a message of congratulations to Brady just like he did for Jimmy G. Which tells me he didn’t.

Dak Prescott actually has 1 playoff wins.

Should have continued with next 5.

Tom Brady, almost certainly, has more playoff wins then the 9 players in front of him combined. :D

Now I’m interested…if we add up all the wins for every active starter (not claiming full accuracy but going mostly by memory/quick checks.)

Allen - 2
Newton - 3
Roethlisberger - 13
Mayfield - 1
Jackson - 1
Tannehill - 2
Watson - 1
Mahomes - 6
Prescott - 1
Rodgers - 11
Cousins - 1
Goff - 2
Ryan - 4
Wilson - 9
Garoppolo - 2

Total: 59

So, the total postseason wins for these QBs is 59 while Brady has 34.

Also, here’s the combined playoff record of every active NFL starter against Brady in the postseason: 1-8. And only two of those games were home games for Brady.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

When I look at it like this, it makes me respect Manning a little more. Brady's 3 losses to him were with outgunned teams each time, including the ******** 2006 AFC Championship Game, but at the end of the day they're still wins.

Brady's 11 playoff losses

Peyton Manning - 3
Eli Manning - 2
Joe Flacco - 2
Nick Foles - 1
Ryan Tannehill - 1
Jake Plummer - 1
Mark Sanchez - 1

A list of mostly bad and fluke quarterbacks, and Peyton.

Peyton Manning was truly great. Brady was better when it mattered early in his career and then became better ALL the time when he finally got top tier receivers but there’s a reason why the Brady/Manning matchup every single year was must watch for the entire league.

And last year Taylor Heinicke was the guy that almost bounced him, as he played better than Brees, Rodgers, and Mahomes

Has to be Jimmy or Tannehill.

It’s not Brees because the Saints were reported to be very interested and about to offer him a contract until they let Brees know about it.

Just using a basic logic train which could easily be wrong, I'll guess that it's Tannehill. Saying this about JAG would be a lot more controversy than TB usually invites.

That’s probably it. I do recall multiple reports after the season saying Brady had interest in the Titans but they had no interest in him.

It seemed like Brady was looking at the 49ers and Titans, but it only was the Buccaneers, Bears, Chargers, and Saints that had interest in him.
