DRAFT Patriots trade up and select DT Christian Barmore

Wooo GIF

A little expensive, sounds like they had info he wouldn't last until 46

actually, draft chart shows 80 points for the move up and the 2 4th round picks equal 86..close

I want our run defense to improve but I'm not sold that Barmore is the guy despite his size. Highlights show poor anchor.

When he showed up (key factor), he was supposedly "unblockable" like in Aaron Donald 'unblockable". The issue of course was when and IF he showed up.

This is a classic BB 2nd rounder. He's swinging for the fences. If Barmore ends up becoming a "prototypical Patriot" with a red jacket, then he wins. If he turns out to be like that late first round DT he got about 5 years ago, who's name has already been relegated to the dust bin of history, the critics will lump him with all the 2nd round failures of the past decade (even those who actually weren't failures)

Dunno if that was a dire need, but I wanted Teven Jenkins as he is a mauler who can play tackle or guard.... Gone the very next pick. Bears at it again (reference to them moving up in 1st round to get Justin Fields)....

Tackles are starting to go off the board all of a sudden...

Barmore seems ultra-talented and a late bloomer. He will need to be coached to reach his awesome potential but that's okay we have Bill!

Everything I've read essentially calls him the best DT in the draft and a 1st round talent. I'm glad we didn't draft him at 15 overall but at 38th he seems fantastic value. The Athletic had him at 20th overall on their big board.

Of course he could still bust but he's coming to the right environment. He's from the northeast and as long as he gets in shape and doesn't put on a ton of weight he will have a huge impact.

I think he could be a pro-bowl level player and the type who will take so much scheming to block that he'll create opportunities for our other defenders to get sacks or tackles for loss.

Downhill, attacking, big DT. Not an anchor, an attacker. Has great size and athleticism. Could be scary good if he's mentally locked in.

Looks like I'm free tonight after all, lol!

I don't know. We have a lot of opt-outs returning and a lot of new FAs joining too. Maybe quality over quantity?
Well that may just be the case. Think about it. IIRC we have over 80 guys already signed now. It's not like this is going to be an easy team for a rookie to make as it is. Why draft 2 4th rounders who you might end up having to cut at the end of August that you'd usually keep just because there is no room at the inn. Now it looks like they can grab 3 players that have a shot at competing for significant playing time at the top of the draft, another 3 at the end of the draft who can be developmental or PS guys and call it a draft. Hard to see us keeping anything close to 10 draft picks after THIS FA season.
