Lions looking to trade down from #7? (Allegedly)

The way things are shaping up, we could be looking at the 7th best QB at that spot.
You joke, but if 6 QBs were taken in those first 6 spots, I’d trade up to #7 in a heartbeat and draft Kyle Pitts. The 3 TE offense, plus a burner in Agholor and with Harris at RB and with our O-line, we’d have the ultimate chess pieces to stress a defense. Even 2020 Cam couldn’t mess that up.

Easy there, Thor. I don't think you're giving Cam near enough credit.

But that offensive set does sound pretty damn good to me.

Since BillB has the final say on who to draft, I wonder if BillB will really do something out of norm.

Lots of smoke & mirror analysis and opinions out there on who they will take and do.

Realistically, I can see BillB take a defensive player @ 15, and move up a bit in 2nd-round to pick Mond for QB.

This scenario, Patriots don't give up 2022's 1st rounder. If they end up stinking and around the 15th pick next year, Patriots have another chance @ QB. By that time, there will probably be fewer teams needing a QB, I would think.

Just PLEASE do not take any defensive players in 2nd round. Terrible history in that situation.

Just 2cents.

If the price to move up to #7 isn't too steep, moving up to the Lion's spot makes sense if a top ranked QB is still on the board, let's say for example if Fields, Lance, or Jones slips to #7.

It’s really hard to make any solid predictions without knowing who is on board. Strictly going off value, I could see Bill trading down in the first for a later first, then trading back up and making two first rd. selections. If the QB situation plays out the way a lot of folks are predicting, a solid group of guys are going to slide. I wouldn’t at all be surprised if Bill went best DL/OL/DB for 2 picks in the first and like Zipster was saying, pick up a guy like Mond in the 2nd if he’s there. I wouldn’t be too upset with that. All I know about Mond is what I’ve read, and everyone seems to have differing opinions. It’s never a bad idea to invest in QB’s though.

How do we avoid the pitfalls that the Ravens 3 TE offense faced once the league found a way to slow Lamar? Cam seems to be at a point in his career that doesn't give us anything better than Jackson.

I'm all ears. I love the idea of three TE's. Just wondering.

Presume any move to 7 will need 2022 first. Depending on who is there you do it. But if top 4 are gone I'm not doing it for jones

What makes you think the 2 TE's Patriots drafted last year are any good? So, far it's been dismal.

They aren't needed. Just bonuses.

Fire away..

We'll know the Pats are considering this when:
  • Significant rumors start coming out that the Pats are talking to teams about trading down
  • Someone supposedly leaks the Pats' QB ratings and it has only one QB worthy of a 1st round pick, the rest or the "big 5" graded out at 2nd and 3rd round.
Then we'll know they are trying to devalue Detroit's position and getting ready to pounce should Fields fall that far.

Well, we signed two that are leagues better, right? That's to whom I'm referring.

Vindicate was responding to Hammer of Thor, who brought up a hypothetical of a Pats offense featuring Smith, Henry, and Pitts in a 3-TE set.

Got figured out once vs Titans and thats because Henry ran crazy over them. . Last season Ravens management decided not to sign Hayden Hurst who signed with Atlanta and had himself a good season. Nick Boyles who was their 2nd blocking te was lost for the season after a major knee injury against New England. So that pretty much left Mark Andrews in a 1 TE set the rest of the season. To be fair, no one really figured out the 3 TE set where it was blatantly obvious it wouldn’t work anymore.

Oh. Ok. Would love Pitts @15. But, probably gone in top 7.

I wished Pats did not drafted those "see if they stick" TEs in mid-rounds...

Lance or Fields?
If we end up with a choice of either one?
We will have choices from Pick 4 onward. How much is each pick worth, given who is left.

IMO, Fields is a top 5 player. Only the top 2 QB's and Pitts are better players.

For me, Lance is a big question mark. I can't see playing Cam for a year or two while Lance develops. Obviously, Belichick may feel differently. Posters might even support drafting Lance only if we sign a 2 year upgrade for Cam.
