Path cleared for Jimmy's return? [SF trades for #3 pick]

I'm still trying to get my head around the cost SF paid to move up for the 3rd best option. This is the kind of trade you make for a sure thing, not a "maybe" will turn out ok with development.
They must feel they can get a QB worth that cost.

Can someone explain to me why Garoppolo is considered to clearly be the better NFL quarterback than Minshew? Given the much higher draft capital and massive disparity in their contracts, I don't know why Bill wouldn't be very aggressive about trading for Minshew, to compete with Cam, Stiddy and a draft pick.

I didn’t include Garoppolo’s rushing stats, because he doesn’t have any rushing production worth including.

Stats are for losers.

Understand that and it makes sense.

lol.. what draft capital did we give up to get into that scenario?

Pick 15 pick 1 next year pick 2 this year and we got a 4th along with it LOL

That’s the $26 million question. I’m sure he wants to play where he’s wanted, but may not want to take a steep pay cut in the process. He might be willing to play another season looking over his shoulder as long as he’s still getting that bag. One would think if he wanted to stay badly enough AND was willing to take a pay cut that he already would have at this point, no? It’s every bit about what the 49ers want to do as it does with him. They’ve clearly traded up for his replacement, and he won’t be with them beyond the 2022 season if he even makes it that far with them. He’s a short term luxury for them at this point, a known commodity they can dispose of whenever they feel it’s safe to. I still hope something can be worked out between now and the draft.

I just heard Shanahan and Lynch called Jimmy before the move up to #3 and told him he was the starter. I'm convinced this is similar to the KC situation with Smith/Mahomes.

9ers get a good vet QB to take their SB ready team into the playoffs while they groom their QBOF. Jimmy gets to play like it's a contract year (he has a year left just like Smith had) to better market himself for 2022 FAcy. Jimmy has little value right now coming off another season lost to injuries. He should welcome the opportunity to play for a stacked team he's very familiar with while making $26.5M.

As of this moment, JimmyG is 9ers WK-1 starter and Cam is Pats starter. It's going to be an interesting season.

Agree. I was onboard with moving quickly to the top of the draft for a top tier QB. That may not be in BB's plans however or the circumstances changed. I think it may be a long waiting game with the Jimmy situation. I hope there is a trade or he is released but it may take a while.

What this posturing tells me is that there’s not another team interested. If there was, none of this nonsense would be needed.

Career record
JG: 24-8
Minshew: 7-13 (including losing his last 7 starts)

The other thing that stands out is the Y/A.

Garopollo has 8.2y/a which is very good. Whereas Minshew is at 6.9.

Jimmy is a better Qb than GM2. Not even a discussion.
